Even after 9/11, multiple crises, and domestic and foreign attacks, our system remains unprepared for the aftermath of a mass catastrophe. What will it take?
The last paragraph identifies what is our most immediate crisis. A domestic terrorist and convicted criminal has taken over the Federal Government. He has clearly commintted many crimes (in addition to the 34 he was convicted of) and continues to committ crimes almost weekly. The majority in Congress could impeach, convict, and remove him but won't. The courts have ruled against him on many issues but has no power to force him to comply with their rulings. He controls the Federal guns and handcuffs. It is almost certain that he will attempt to overthrow the 2026 election results if they don't go his way just as he did on January 6, 2021. Our only hope is that the people with the guns will refuse to follow his future illegal orders.
Has anyone asked the Trump... how come the election that voted him in was perfect when it was the same as the one he lost....
But you are correct. He can and will do anything and everything he can to hurt the November election. He comes up with a new plan every day.
Is it possible to get American leaders like the current living presidents to take some kind of action.
I know we can have a coupe, but if they start acting in a group as a counter balance to Trump would that help. We need to think outside of the box to save our Democracy.
Trump statement that he will give Americans $5,000 if Republicans win is frightening. I think there are lot of people, especially today, that need that money and might make that choice. It is rediculus and as noted law suits are being written as we chat. Desperate people are going to want the money NOW, not realizing it will cost them more plus interest over the next years sending America into bankruptcy.
Is it possible to make Republicans realize they are allowing the downfall of this great experiment. We cannot fail.
Is American government so weak that we have allowed Trump to play havoc with the whole world.
We probably need planes flying overhead with banners saying...WAKE UP AMERICANS--OUST TRUMP NOW--
The MAGA Voodoo Cult isn't going to wake up. IMO they have some version of Paranoid Personality Disorder. (I'm not a psychologist or psychiatrist but I worked with them on treatment teams in psych. hospitals for 29 years). Reason will not cure their paranoia & Fascist ideation. Some of the people that voted for Trump aren't in the Cult & simply made a mistake. I hope that those people realize their mistake and vote to correct it.
Well, pipsqueak Johnson has become a master of keeping the House on permanent vacation and refusing to swear in newly elected Democratic members. So, not surprise whatsoever on not getting anything big as the subject of this article done.
The show "Designated Survivor" starring Kiefer Sutherland deals with this issue so well. It was fully believable and showed what a caring person would do if suddenly thrust into the presidency.
It was eerie, wasn't it? I'm sure the cast is still freaked out by how prescient it all was.
I really liked Sutherland's character, and not to gush, but I can't help but compare it to the sensibilities of Abraham Lincoln. A caring man who knew how to strategically do his job but paid the price for all that it exposed him to.
Interesting review of attempts to fix a potential problem that government should consider a fix for sooner rather than later. Shows some of us how very thoughtful others work for our nation.
It takes thoughtful people to think about these issues and approach them from an area of seriousness. We do not have politicians who are capable of thinking in this strategic manner. They are all out for themselves.

That was a good TV show. I've thought ofx how alike some of the story lines have been to reality and what-ifs.

Totally agree with this!! If we had term limits, perhaps the members would support this and vote it forward….
