We need one more amendment for age limits or a better cognitive exam confirming a current minimum IQ of at least 125…and the ability to clearly pronounce 4 syllable words used correctly in complete sentences.

We absolutely should institute age limits and mental health exams to achieve a vastly improved pool of candidates TO REPRESENT US. It's not a game we can leave up to a popularity contest. Kids have little critical thinking skills these days, and too many were fished in to vote for a serial liar and malevolent con man. Given the state of education and the internet, voter acuity is only going to get worse, so let's help the kids out by putting some basic rules in place. Four syllables is a good test.

The undercurrent of this excellent piece appears to be Trump's threat to ignore the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution. That objective is one of his current triptych of goals which are: unchecked power, unmitigated corruption. and political immortality. As with his other two goals, he has alternative paths to achieve the illegal term. One may be to manufacture evidence from which to claim that 2020 election was stolen from him as a justification for demanding a third term to compensate him for the one he claims was purloined from him. If so, the Georgia heist is step one.

The nation needed FDR every one of those terms. It is difficult to see the progress and industry embedded in his programs, becoming the foundation of our social safety net, undermined by a political system of white male oligarchs that governs by propaganda and bad-mouthing Democrats. In so doing, they have destroyed the deliberative process that has enriched our nation for years -- of a two-party system, each bringing their own best ideas for governance in generating meaningful discussions about actual problems we faced, and negotiating the policies we pursued. Without facts, evidence and expertise, from the Republican Party, with only falsehood and name-calling, to appeal to the lowest values of disrespect and indecency, our nation is ill-served.

We should insist on putting term limits on congress both houses. But it’s up to them to do just that and a constitutional amendment would be required so it’s not likely this would ever happen anytime soon. Same process with an age restriction would apply as well.
