Great article on a great man and his wife. Michelle, Barack and their two daughters are so many classes above the orange felon, his classless wives and his sick spawn, even if they were in the highest building in the world, they could never reach the Obamas.

And note, that by defending himself, Barrack Obama would be defending the integrity of all Democrats; his reputation is ours, by default. Trump's accusation of treason is not "outrageous"--it is false, cruel, and libelous. As another commenter suggested: sue him. A class action would not be out of order.

Punkette's avatar

Agree! Barack should have immediately filed a defamation lawsuit against the orange fascist’s regime. I am writing this on August 5th, and now it’s too late.

KnockKnockGreenpeace's avatar

Yeah: now he's the one being investigated. All of this waste of our tax money for Trump's grievances makes me sick. DOGE my ass.

Punkette's avatar

Same here.🤮 Stay safe, Barack!

I am waiting to wake up and read that Obama is suing for libel, defamation and character assassination. He needs to stand up to the Orange Bully. It would mean so very much to all of us.

And make the lawsuit for some ridiculous sum of money.

Former President Obama maintains his classiness and pride by ignoring the likes of rude bullies who constantly lie. I backed him and still back him all the way.

The success of the Obamas has been my favorite event in my life.

I agree that Obama should fight back. But I want him to not stoop to the level of drumpf and co.

I am infuriated that dump thinks he can fabricate treason against Obama, who in my mind is the best of us. Dump projects his own treasonous behavior on to others hoping the worst of us will ignore his immorality, cruelty and inhumanity. Not to mention his incredible stupidity. I am so ashamed that this horrible excuse for a man is being protected by people just as bad.

Great piece.

Part of me thinks President Obama should sue. It's not about the money. It's the precedent here...that you can't go after people and threaten them, you can't encourage followers to do that. President Obama should ask for $$$$$$$ and then donate all of it to survivors.

When the whole “birther” thing was going strong, I was amazed that NO ONE in any paper or blog or social media post said this:

A child born to an American citizen, no matter where the birth takes place, is an American citizen. Obama’s mother was an American citizen! If he had been born anywhere in the world - or on Mars - he still would have been an American citizen!

The constitutional phrase “natural born citizen” means a person born a citizen, as opposed to a person who becomes a citizen via naturalization (e.g., Henry Kissinger, who immigrated to the US and became a citizen, was ineligible for the presidency because he was not “a natural born citizen).

I think President Obama should stand up to him. He is a voice we can all relate to and he would do it with class and humor that we all know he has. We don’t have a voice, so he should be our voice and say what all of us want to say to Trump.

Not sure I agree with all. When you sue someone for defamation or make frequent denials/statements, you are giving the lies credibility; that they are, in fact, worthy of attention, denial, litigation, etc etc. I have no doubt, and I certainly hope, that Obama is consulting with his legal team. That action he absolutely has do to, and have a plan in place. But sueing or shouting denials may not be in his best interest at this point. Why give Trump's idiotic statements more credibility, and possibly open them up to "truth"and attention? His representative issued a statement already, well-worded, although I'm sure it's over Trump's small mind. Sueing is right up Trump's alley, would serve as a wonderful distraction for the Epstein debacle, and give him more fodder to accuse the ex-president of God knows what. Keep in mind that we are dealing with a life-long, pathological criminal liar who attracts conspiracy theorists like dead animals attract flies. In my opinion, it's always the best to think things out logically and clearly without hysteria, have a workable, legal plan in place with competent, trustworthy people to carry it out, and if the shit starts flying, don't let them see you coming until you are there, and they are not. The only reason that these statements were even considered and obscurely and outrageously made is that crazy Tulsi concocted some ridiculous story about Russia, Obama, Democrats, hell, maybe even my dead dog, in order to get back into the good graces of King Donald, who was ready to throw her out, as she challenged him on the bombing of Iran. Does that sound like a reason to start shouting from the rooftops that "I'm innocent", "I'm taking you to court" etc etc? All of that reasoning would simply feed into this malignant narcissist and his refusal to admit his wrong doings with Epstein, which is REALLY at the heart of all of this. He knows he funded Epstein; did it for years. His own AG told him his name was everywhere on the "documents". His name is on several Epstein flight manifests. Photos abound with him and Jeff. There are records that Jeff operated at Mar a Lago. My God, what more proof does anyone need that this creep was part and parcel of Epstein's mad, sick schemes with under-aged girls? Accusing the ex black president of wrongdoing just fits into the Maga portfolio and Trump's malignant lying, racist mind. Why give him more ammunition, unless it absolutely has to happen? And again, if retribution has to happen, do not let them see you coming. Knock that bastard's socks off and blast him into the stratosphere.

When the Sandy Hook families sued Alex Jones for defamation, did that give credence to his Jones’ lies? No. The families had finally had enough and used the law as it was meant to be used. Like many other commenters here, I think legal action may be an appropriate remedy.

RRiveter's avatar

Thanks for your views and commentary. I still stick with my comments, as the Sandy Hook lawsuit comparison with the Obama accusations are not equal in any sense. The Sandy Hook families were not manipulatory politicians, but had dead, bloody children as evidence, and many other witnesses to their children's destruction. Of course, stupid Alex could have and did say anything he wanted, but the evidence was crystal clear: dead children, shot up at close range, lying in their coffins, with witnesses to the horrible event. And a long history of the perpetrator being a very disturbed sociopath with years of untreated mental illness, killing his own mother who enabled him was another strong piece of evidence. There was nothing about that case that could be lied about, misconstrued, made up ,or ignored. The bountiful evidence was obvious. And so, the courts/law did the right thing and ruled against conspiracy asshole Alex. Conversely, the so-called "documents" stating that Obama rigged some horseshit with Russia in 2016 is made up crap; cannot be substantiated in any way, as there is no credible evidence, only in the fragmented minds of Trump and Gabbard. In Sandy Hook, there were dead kids, seen by many people, broken windows, bloodied walls, etc etc etc. With Obama/Trump, there are delusionary accusations with prepped documents by a Cabinet member who was initially discredited by DT, and feared that she would be canned. Obama is a Harvard-trained lawyer, and a very articulate, smart guy, as is his wife. I have no doubt at all that they have a very good legal team that will make the call when/if it needs to be made. Legal action may be the thing to do in the future, but now? Too early to proceed with that unless Trump goes more apeshit. If he continues to press this bullshit, then maybe litigation is appropriate. I still think that staying the course and seeing how far this nutcase takes this makes more sense, currently. In the future, if the Obamas need to sue his ass, go for it.

I agree that Obama should stand up to Trump and his sycophants. There is no creditable evidence against him ("a coup?" oh please). The best thing he could do is to sue DJT for defamation just to shut him up. In reality, Obama is immune, as is Trump (thanks to SCOTUS), but it would be fun to watch DJT squirm. Barring a lawsuit, a well-worded 'cease and desist' letter to DJT sent all over social media could also do the trick.

I don't pretend the political wisdom to advise anyone of the calibre of President Obama. I do believe that we should be responding far more aggressively to the current travesties than much of the Democratic Party's current leadership. I don't think your advice is off base, but I think it WOULD be a mistake for ANYONE to respond to what you have correctly identified as a distraction, thus giving attention to the shiny object. Indeed, I think his response to this provocation was exactly right.

No, I'm just an old fart who has been around paying attention for 84 years, and long ago figured out that most things are both complex, with lots of moving parts, and very simple, in terms of which, I've seen all this sh*t" many times before.

Trump has always lacked class. Just look at issues of Rupert Murdoch's NY Post from the 1990s and the early aughts (yes, the years he and Epstein were publicly pals). He's flashy, he's gaudy. He exaggerates and fabricates and, above all, he boasts. He's definitely not a nice guy. Hulk Hogans fans loved him for the same set of attributes. Too bad a plurality ( not majority) of our fellow Americans were supportive in spite of their better instincts.

Trumps motives are obvious. He cannot get out form under the rock so he pushes rocks onto others so they must fight their way out. Here's my recommended strategy for Obama. His announcement to the press, without an elevtor entrance: "If Trump wants to run for a 3rd term, then so can I. My campign will begin immediately. With me vs Trump, my media coverage will be huge, maybe bigger than Trump's. Everyday. Ubove the fold. Can you imagine network news. OMG. My airtime and coverage will be breathtaking. Podcasts will explode. I'll speak truth to power. With 60 percent of the country not liking you, despise and hate, might be in this 60 percent. They'll all come right on board. People are frustrated, despondent, resigned so my timing couldn't be any more perfect. You can be the great White hope, but I'll be the Mohammad Ali and float like a butterfly and sting like a bee."

I'm not sure he'll get off the sidelines even to defend democracy.
