Just imagine, for a minute, letting the old Confederacy secede. The rest of us would be free of this meddlesome group of gerry-mandering-mad states. I wouldn't mind at all not having to worry about how Abbott or DeSantis are trying to distort the truth or betray the electorate.
“ Or it can deliver a sweeping decision that would effectively strip the Voting Rights Act of its power to ensure fair representation for all Americans.”
Gee, what do you think they’ll do? The next Supine Court decision that protects Democracy, and the People, will be its first. Very sad. Beyond Disappointing.
Sadly, I fear that we are going to lose on the gerrymandering, and the ONLY hope that we dig out of this mess, is that some voters in districts considered safely "red" will have heard and seen enough about some of the outrages, and/or suffered enough, to vote against their (often recent) history. For that to happen, there have to be viable candidates as well as some effort put into the ground work. At least where they go all out gerrymandering--seemingly simply running their new district lines, as here in MO, along the actual or virtual "tracks" that divide middle class from poor, as well as distorting "compact" and "contiguous" into the sort of shape from which the practice gets its name--there is a possibility that a legacy D might have enough name recognition, maybe history in their new territory. And again, door knocking.
If Democrats win the House they must draft ethics rules for the Supreme Court and set term limits and consider expanding the court. It’s the only way we can avoid their extremism and floundering of the constitution.
The McConnell/Roberts court will do exactly what Rumpalzheimer tells them to do. See Ann Telnaes first cartoon from yesterday. It couldn't depict the situation more perfectly.
Let the old Confederates have their way. I say the rest of the states withhold federal tax dollars from those red state "takers". How about impeaching those justices for removing protections for civil rights? The civil war has never ended and it is outrageous, supported by supposedly " religious" people.

There are those of us Democrats and Independents now in Red states who would lose our homes, families, etc.
Anyone know why the Substack Reader is not working on Contrarian posts today? Or is it just my computer?
