He is redirecting tax dollars from national purposes to his own war chest. He is subjecting "bad guys," that is, anyone who demeans, insults, criticizes or opposes him, to prosecution and persecution. He fires without cause public prosecutors who refuse to do his bidding. He ignores or circumvents judicial orders. He violates US constitutional law, his oath of office, and very likely international law. How could we possibly have a functional government?
The president probably prefers bending Democrats to his will. But a prolonged shutdown might play into his search for a pretext to declare martial law.
