Lifetime feminist, since age 10. All young women today should be making this commitment. I have achieved what I did because I had a safe and legal abortion at age 18.
KKG, you deserve all our respect for speaking out so freely. Abortion is nothing to be ashamed of, except for those who would (and have!) taken women's rights away. Shame on all those men misogynists and, unfortunately, all too many women.
These are the same women who would never vote for a woman for president.
Appreciate the acknowledgment! Sometimes I feel like all I have is my voice and my memory. So, I’ll be shouting about the rights we did have—and the good they did—until they are restored, dammit.
Thanks, Jennifer for all these state abortion bill updates. Until these states vote all these extremists out of office and repeal the regressive laws that have been passed then nothing will ever change.
No, nothing will ever change until something happens at the federal level to completely ban any attempt to regulate women's bodies and uteruses. Even before Roe was murdered, many states had made it practically impossible for women to access reproductive care.
I would guess the choice to carry a baby full term is often a, period of life or financial choice. I would like to know how many people are willing to put their money where their mouth is? So, before you condemn someone for their choice, how about you sign up for 18 years of support.
I am so angry that 51% of the U.S. population, all our living, breathing girls and women, were summarily booted out of the U.S. Constitution and fed to the wolves of all-male Republican state legislatures. I am so angry that they keep trying to reduce us to one-dimensional creatures of "abortion", and ruthlessly pursue and abuse us with criminal threats, denial of medical care, and violence at any age. All of us and those who love us must continue to rise in all our power because each of us is so much more than an object of abuse. Vote for those who will fight for us. Rally in support. Fight for our families and communities. See you at No King's Day 3 and beyond.
Thank you so much for writing about abortion. It was a hot topic until the 2024 election. After that it pretty much disappeared other than in targeted publications like Abortion, Every Day. Thank you also for clarifying that there is no heart (or heartbeat) at 6 weeks. Electrical activity is constantly conflated with a heartbeat including in legislation. We need to fight. MEN, please use your voice. Please support girls and women. You are not helping if you don't speak up. It's a beautiful day for all of us to smash the patriarchy and fight misogyny.
I saw some new stats today and the abortion rate has done nothing but go up in response to the Forced Birthers efforts to ban/block it. Unfortunately, they have stopped collecting information on deaths and morbidity during pregnancy in most states, so we don't know how many actual born people have been maimed or killed by the bans on healthcare. We know it is not zero.
I don't understand why the Forced Birthers think classifying fetuses as "people" bans abortion. No person can use another person's body without consent, and if they try to, that person has the right to fight back, even by using lethal force. Ergo, your "person-fetus" (what a ridiculous concept) can be evicted in self-defense.

Thank you, Rick!

Thanks for keeping the abortion issues in the news, as they should be.
