Joy Reid should be invited to join The Contrarian on, at least, a part time basis.

Minority voices should not be silenced!

Agreed and completely on board with that.

What happened to Joy Reid and others is just unconscionable! My blood boils at these stories of brave talented people's lives being ruined by these rich, uncouth pieces of scum who get away with it. I'm beside myself that they say they're all for a merit based system but they are the dung at the bottom of the barrel of humanity. There has to be a way to get these despicable pariahs out of our lives. Four more years of this should not be an option. We are not masochists.

Thanks, Joanne! I feel the same way.

I have always had a great deal of admiration for Joy Reid. Excellent programs on MSNBC, of course, but also someone who seemed to be exactly what she was: an extremely competent, smart, articulate woman -- whether she was green, blue/yellow-polka-dotted, or Black. She was simply damn good, and her sessions with Chris Hayes made that crystal clear.

Her comments on Trump and no end of others were dead on target time after time. While she was certainly pointed inherited comments, she was always making those points by assembling a case that made her conclusions self-evident to the viewer.

That MSNBC is apparently in the midst of sort of muddled reorganization effort of the various NBC brands, that corporate spinelessness and taking counsel of its fears is probably part of the reason Joy Reid was axed, that she was a Black, outspoken woman certainly cannot be dismissed or ignored. As more than a few have observed, there are no such things as coincidences: Trump in, Reid out...

I am old, from the vanguard of the Baby Boomers, and what we are experiencing is the sort of dystopian tale that only happened in political-thriller novels, not in Real Life and NOT in the United States. Joy Reid's firing and the Bezos' decisions at The Washington Post and no end of other outrages is beyond accepting.

Time to make it clear with something from 50 years ago: I'm as made as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore!!!!!!!

HD, what a fantastic indictment of corporate media at this point in history. Joy-Ann was a marvelous example of speaking truth to power and telling it like it is. I cannot help but believe that she will find her niche in the unfolding universe of free thinkers who have given the middle finger to the corporates (Jen, Norm, Jim, etc.), stomped out in disgust and started their own invaluable platforms such as The Contrarian, Public Notice and Mary Trump's The Good in Us among many others. I look forward to J-A being back where she belongs. We desperately need her voice.

You are not old, and you speak the truth! Thank you for your analysis.

I love Joy Reid but don't forget and what is not covered here is that Katie Phang, José Díaz-Balart, and Jonathan Capehart were also taken off ; with Alex Wagner reassigned. This is bigotry of the highest order. MSNBC is as bad as Trump.

And don't forget Ayman Mohyeldin, who fearlessly reported on Israel, Gaza, and the Palestinians. Tragic loss for sanity.

I've stopped watching TV for a number of years now so I didn't know that Joy Reid was fired by corporate MSNC. Joy Reid had been one of my must view shows on MSNBC. While this news is stomach wrenching, I have to think that Joy Reid will find a way to continue to be a "truth sayer". But in the meantime, scary and very sad.

The Contrarian is the only news source I know of that seems to be aware of the magnitude of the threat to journalism that Republican's and TDrump pose. Most of the others just paint their political ploys as political maneuvering.

In my opinion it is not. Make NO mistake, it is an autocratic insurrection to make this country a Fascist state.

There are others. I've been reading The Bulwark, Salon, Huffpost, and The Moderate Voice for years now, and I like certain things about each of them, other things, not so much. None have quite showed the utter lack of resignation that I think is necessary to finally defeat Trump, Trumpism, and Bozoism (not a typo, there). But they've all contributed something; none of us can do it all, and it's not nothing.

But The Contrarian is the first one I've subscribed to. It's not perfect, and I don't expect it to be, but I'll be here contributing to the discussions, for as long as we're in the same fight.

The last election shows exactly why black women are so much smarter than black men, if news and polls are to be believed. Apparently black men voted for the orange felon in droves.

First they came for...

And we will still continue speaking truth to power. Black women have been fighting for and will continue to fight for EVERYONE'S civil rights. Because we are true American patriots, unlike the scared, white men hiding behind their billions of dollars.

MSNBC should reinstate Joy Reid and apologize to its viewers. Otherwise we may have to leave MSNBC just like we left the NY Times (for not condemning the slaughter of Gazans by a Jewish president and the shipment of arms to Israel by the Biden administration) and the Washington Post (for bowing to Jeff Bezos and not endorsing Kamala Harris).

Steven Branch's avatar

Nejat, I hear you about MSNBC. However, as long there are people such as Nicole Wallace, Chris Hayes, Rachel Maddow and Lawrence O'Donnell sounding the alarm bells, I will continue to tune in and cheer them on. On the other hand, Drumpf ass-kissers Mika and Joe of Morning Joe are the ones who should be axed.

Bruce Ford's avatar

Joy Reid is fearless, and no doubt loathed by Trump because she, like many other Black women, is so much smarter that he is.

We hope to see her on the Contrarian!

Joy's biggest problem was that she worked at the kind of network that covers a piece of "Breaking News" at 6 in the morning that apparently is still "Breaking" at 11 at night.

She is way too smart to be boxed into such a rigid format. Honestly, the MSNBC format is one of the least intelligent, unimaginative, and frankly, uninformative way to present news throughout a 24 hour cycle.

In addition to the short interviews that can't effectively cover anything in depth, including information and context that would help their viewers understand things in a meaningful way, they manage to make things even worse by constantly recycling some of their god-awful "MSNBC contributors." Really?! A news organization can't figure out how to organize their lineup that would allow their hosts to tap new blood, on a daily basis, from all the ACTUAL EXPERTS that exist in the world?

JFC!

Their PM hosts are not dumb. Hayes, Maddow, and Reid are exceptionally bright. If MSNBC were smart, they'd fire the vapid dolts, like Joe and Mika, expand the shows for Hayes, Maddow, and Reid to 2 hours, allowing them to do deep dives with interesting guests (no less than a half hour for any one guest), and then totally rework the lineup for the morning and afternoon shift.

It's no wonder they're losing viewers. I personally can't stand to watch their network anymore.

I find it difficult to believe that legacy or mainstream media and news programs cannot stand up for their rights and obligations, especially on actual news or viewpoints. This sorry excuse of a president should not be allowed to continue against our Constitution and laws. And we should be able to continue to read or hear such excellent writers and speakers whose job it is to question.

I have sent an email to Rebecca Kutler, President of MSNBC News stating my concerns regarding the cancellation of Joy Reid's show, the cancellation of Alex Wagner's show and her consequent demotion, and the cancellations/demotions for four weekend news anchors. Is it ratings? Is it "bowing" to Trump? Is it pushback regarding DEI? Whatever the reason(s) ii is appalling and I will not tolerate it. If there is further degradation of MSNBC News programs, I will discontinue watching programs. I doubt I will receive a reply, but I said what needs to be said!

You are 100% correct, and I am so sorry, and so sad. 90+% of people are cowards. MSNBC proved they are as well this week.

Truer words have never been spoken.

I am confident Joy Reid will not allow her voice to be diminished. May she find an even better outlet in which to speak her truth. One which will not impede her passion or censure her vision.
