Given the current Congress's bootlicking Trump's every whim we'll increasingly be reliant on the judiciary to uphold current law and counter the administration's blatantly unconstitutional initiatives. Roberts would do well to support judicial independence before he loses control to Trump based on the immunity granted him just recently. It seems that if the judiciary cracks any hopes of reclaiming the rule of law will disappear.
Of course I want judges to be able to defend the rule of law without fear! Credible death threats. Yikes, of course.
Still, I can't help gagging on the thought that a bill to the rescue will be bi-partisan, as if Senate and House Rs weren't part of the problem.
And frankly also gagging that a Congressional solution might end of giving Justice Roberts - the blanket immunity Justice Roberts - even more authority.
Don't cut off your nose to spite your face. Maybe. But still gagging.
If Chief Justice Roberts was a man of integrity—which he is not—he would have given Trump more than a warning. As it is, all the Trump lackeys on the Supreme Court gave him immunity from any crimes committed while he is in office. And to paraphrase what our Dear Leader said last week, “ I can do anything I want. I’m the president of the United States.”
