Wow, Marissa! What a delicious-looking cake. I enjoyed reading the story behind it. Had no idea Newark was world-famous for apple cider and Cider Royal. Yum! I too am vegan and canโt wait to make this cake, and eat it! Such a lovely tribute to our heroes, Cory Booker and Chris Murphy. Thank you! ๐
Since I'm not vegan I couldn't resist altering the recipe by using milk and butter when I made this cake. I also added 1/2 cup of chopped walnuts to the crumb mixture. The cake was delicious and it generated rave reviews from many people. Thanks to Cory for his dedication and perseverance and to Marissa for sharing this delicious recipe!
Well, what a wonderful way to honor someone. It's like writing a poem for them, only with food. Good on you, and good on Mr. Booker.
Thank you. That's the nicest thing to say.

The story of Newark cider is truly fascinating...and unexpected.
I just made this cake. The kids and grandkids are coming over. Perfect for teatime!
Is there a way to post a photo?
Oh, I'd love to see it. Can you post in Substack notes?
Had it in the oven as soon as I saw the recipe! I am highly intolerant of dairy so vegan cake is a dream come true. Thank you!!
Love this. Hope you enjoyed.
This sounds delicious! Thank you for sharing a vegan recipe, I canโt wait to try it.
LMK what you think!
Great choice for the Contrarian! Eggless cake perfect for today's market. Plus, a role model worthy of a delicious treat named after him!
My Jersey husband will be all over this one! Love the history lessons I get with your recipes, too. ๐๐ฅฎ
Jersey husband. You married well!
Iโm not vegan, but I canโt wait to try this. Very cool way to honor his accomplishment.
thanks!
Iโm not getting the connection of nutmeg to Chris Murphy? I love them both but what am I missing?
Connecticut is known as โThe Nutmeg Stateโ!

Thanks for the interesting possible origin stories for why it's called the nutmeg state!
