Spot on. China isn't playing. Xi Jinping can absorb a lot of pain (ordinary Chinese people's, not his), and whether or not China succeeded in their attempted hack into every major Trumpword figure's phone late last year, Trump is an toddler-level open book to everyone but the beltway press (with their false and flattering attribution of brain activity to Trump), and business (with their greed-driven self-delusion). And in a nutshell, this: "Trump isn’t averse to risk. He’s averse to blame."

For one thing, the lack of any policy paper, coherent plan, or any evidence of strategy in the way the tariffs were implemented suggests that the Trump regime will enter "talks" with a similar lack of strategy and preparation. If Trump gets something he thinks he can package as a "win", he'll take it. If he thinks he can make it look like a concession he'll take it.

He will, no matter what, leave some residual tariffs there, just to look like he hasn't given anything up, and that he is still "tough".

I would be shocked if we get a concession from China beyond just relieving some of their response to the initial tariffs.

And if his "team" thinks there is strategy or a plan (which I remain unconvinced of), he'll in a moment blow the whole thing up once he gets something he can convince people corresponds to a "win". Rug pull time.

China is widely known as a leader in the purveyance of propaganda. Of course they would see through Trump and understand his needs. Meanwhile, he is doing their work for them, propagandizing the American people into compliance. We were warned in college about China's propaganda but not so much about our own. Eyes open, folks. Watch for truth, because the lies are destroying us.

The Felon's initial "strategy" for tariffs coincided with the Big BS Bill. It has always been about the "golden age" of the late 1800's through the 1920's, where the rich got richer. Look at the Felon's response to less imports: "we're losing less money". The tariffs have always been about (at least in the Felon's mind) balancing a budget and giving huge tax breaks to the rich. Recession, depression, none of that matters. It's all about making the United States an authoritarian theocracy, with the Felon as its leader and the American oligarchs running the Country.

The problem for the Felon has been twofold. First the American oligarchs, unlike the oligarchs of the late 1800s through the 1920s, have made a significant amount of their wealth through foreign trade so there was a backlash to the tariffs. In addition, the old guard of the GOP were free traders and the American people have become enamored with cheap stuff. Second, the Felon's sycophants in the White House and on Fox News have said the tariffs are for negotiation purposes. This is nonsense and would require a strategy. There never has been any strategy with the tariffs. In addition, as the author said "If a negotiation makes him (the Felon) look small, he will sabotage it. If a headline calls him weak, he’ll escalate. If Xi flatters him, he’ll fold."

“ He needs to be seen “winning.” ”

Exactly—-this is all a game to this little brat. Which is the problem. We need a competent adult in the White House, not a recalcitrant child. Only 3 1/2 years to go!

Excellent analysis and description of tRUMP. As far as risk, tRUMP doesn’t care about risk as long as he feels the risk isn’t to him personally. When things start to blowback on him and blame comes his way, he will blame others then create a different problem to deflect attention rather than correct his errors.

What surprises me is how the markets appear divorced from reality. I expected enough smart money would withdraw so that markets would slowly drop. I pulled some money out of individual stocks I owned and lowered the percentage of money invested in stocks in my retirement accounts. It is looking more like a rapid decline will occur rather than the slow sequential drop I expected.

Once again, thank you Dr O’Neill for hitting all the nails on their heads! “We” have taken FF47’s number but wish we could do something about it! Maybe soon …?
