Great interview. Even though I am from NC, I feel as though I have a stake in this election because of how a Rep Biss might change politics in Congress. Standing for what is right and not just politically safe. Wouldn't that be a novelty.
When I lived in his district, I felt very comfortable voting for him as Mayor. If I still lived there, I'm not sure who I'd vote for. (The cost drove me away.) I'm sick of DC being so filled with so many white males of a certain age. I'd like to see a bit more diversity.
If you don't know the Chicagoland area, cracking down on Evanston, Illinois, is like cracking down on any sweet suburb that maga muckety-mucks live in. Tell me how many of the Lindsey Grahams and JD Vances and Donald Trumps do not have landscape crews that are not as white as they are.
There are very very few maga supporters in Evanston. It votes heavily Democratic. And it's true that there are many Latino landscaping crews here, and they were targeted by ICE/CBP. But Evanston is more diverse than people may think, racially and economically. Biss, by the way, has my support!
I'm saying that all sweet suburbs are more diverse than people think, but that doesn't change the fact that many service sectors are mainly staffed by Hispanics. Here where I live, we are grateful to find them in the construction and repair service industries. Our roofer disappeared for a few weeks soon after Miller put his goons on the ground. So, you will find ICE in red zones as well as blue.
I agree; Mr. Biss sounds like a fantastic representative of the people. So glad that people want to step up their game at a time like this.
Mayor Biss aligns with my views on most topics discussed here - Iraq war, ICE, dark money funding, character and skills needed for a politician that will improve his constituents lives, US relationship with Israel, and most important the current war with Iran. He's one of the good ones.
I think he has a helpful approach to the Israel/Palestinian conflict of imagine they were other countries, what should the US do. But to get my vote, Mayor Biss would have to explain what that means. I would ask him whether as an honest broker he would recognize the State of Palestine? Whether he would support funding of the rebuilding of Gaza? Whether he would condition future aid to Israel on immediate ceasefire and actual progress toward a two state or one state solution?
Wendy, check out some of the interviews where he ran for Mayor. He may have addressed your concerns there. That being said, the Chicago area has a very large Jewish population. Many survivors came here right after the Holocaust. At the time, other than parts of NYC, the Skokie and Evanston area had the largest Jewish population in the country.
Whether right or wrong, there are people who want to continue supplying Israel with funding and military hardware. There are people who don't believe a "Palestine" would be Hamas free and coexist with Israel. History lessons along with the outrageous levels of antisemitism support those views. It is not evil to believe these tenets. What is wrong is if differing candidates are besmirched with lies and insults. It is a behavior in politics that continues to do its dastardly deeds.
Only two weeks to go until this race! Best of luck Daniel Biss!

Wonderful candidate, and crucial discussion of issues related ti Israel and Jewish support.
Jen brought up the unknown PACs. I'm curious how much of that is happening in other states. I see it a lot in the Chicagoarea. Thanks.

Daniel Biss looks exactly like Jeffrey Epstein BUT I’m voting for him next week. And in November.
