Years ago a bad apartment owner refusing to maintain his property for the renters, lost the law suit and was forced to live in one of his apartments for 1 month. Wonder if that might apply to the detention centers that Kristi is so fond of, she could take her blanket and stay in a center for 1 month
It's past time Democratic Governor's across America put their National Guard troops on notice that they may be called up in November to protect citizens voting rights from encroachment by the Federal Government via ICE or other forms of Federal police.
The Second Amendment clearly gives each State the authority to use its "armed militia" to protect its citizens from tyranny.
Let the Trump administration know we will do this if pushed.
I like that idea. Governors seem reluctant to do so. It's also important to tell your senators, daily, that they must vote against the SAVE act. Then call your governor. Tell the governor to do everything in his/her power to stop the Federal Government from interfering with the States' rights to run their own election. Have State attorneys ready to go to court.
I expect that the top notch lawyers are prepared to defend our elections in the courts.
You might want to add: Do anything and everything you possibly can to unseat cowardly Republican Senators who have completely ignored their responsibilities to represent us. They have chosen to ignore unprecedented extortion on the part of the child who was elected president, the conversion of the "justice" department into a personal retribution organization, the elimination of numerous regulatory safeguards, the choice to ignore scientific evidence of a dangerously warming planet, the abandonment of well-researched medical science that will lead to thousands of deaths, and the deployment of a poorly-trained, heavily-armed police force that simply ignores the U.S. Constitution. These traitors swore an oath to defend the Constitution of the United States and have totally ignored that commitment.
Please add pressure against CoreCivic about the conditions in the detention facilities. An appropriate standard is what is required of public schools for food, water and sanitation preferably with independent verification because CoreCivic has a past history of consistently lying about compliance.
Another action citizens can take: find out if your local Sheriff is participating in SCAAP, the State Criminal Alien Assistance Program. This little known program provides federal payments to offset costs for holding undocumented immigrants who have at least one felony or two misdemeanor convictions who have also been incarcerated for at least 4 consecutive days.
With out citizen oversight, who is to say whether your local police dept. is simply reporting undocumented immigrants to ICE in exchange for reimbursement payments regardless of the person's criminal record? Citizens can do the research and then lobby local officials to amend or stop this practice.
Immigrant support non-profits ask that allies not use whistles to alert for the presence of ICE. The idea behind Rapid Responders and ICE activity documenters is to keep a low profile and not center ourselves. The sound of whistles is triggering for many immigrants, as they’re used by police in many foreign countries. Being a true ally means listening to the needs of the communities we’re trying to aid and not deciding what’s best for them through a white person’s lens.
I sent emails to both my Idaho Senators 2 days ago about Save Act. Crapo responded next morning with his obviously pre-written canned response with all the usual points. Expecting the same from Risch. Idaho politics are the worst!
Can we do more? Can we rattle Iowa and Kentucky with a writing campaign or TV commercials trying to call Grassley and McConnell out - to do the right thing. The Texas Dems and Talarico are calling the voters out to vote vs the so called far right religious and the 21 Texas legislatures that wrote Congress on the problems with ICE is positive. More notice could also be given to the bad news on how the Federalist, Congress and our lawyers push the Project 2025 agenda.
Grassley and McConnell could save democracy and our international relations. Grassley and McConnell are done in politics and are very rich - they remember what ethical politics looks like - and the absence of pedophiles. McConnell did not vote to impeach twice - yet told the voters they had the right to vote for a criminal - not true by constitutional law. Grassley is the head of the Senate Judiciary committee - part of the reason we have a corrupt SCOTUS, Leonard Leo, DOJ and we continue to see laws broken by this administration. These two could fix everything
How about a tax strike to stop being complicit by funding ICE and the rest. Just switch some taxable investments to tax free municipal bonds or funds. Legal, easy, and powerful if many of us did it.

Same in Kentucky
Thank you! These are all necessary tasks we all need to be doing.
May I add, as a small business owner, use your display space to make it clear that immigrants are welcome on your premises and ICE agents are not.
Thanks so much Contrarian for keeping us updated on what we can do.

But those two are weenies. Evil ones.
Ribbit ribbit…..
