“Trump at historic lows of under 40% in poll after poll.”

What I find extremely troubling is that approx. 1/3rd of the people polled APPROVE of what this blatantly obvious enemy of the people is doing! Flabbergasting! Astonishing!

Thank you, Norm, and your Legal Associates, for standing up for us all. You are TRUE American heroes! Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!!🙏🙏🙏!

It's troubling indeed, but unfortunately it's not exactly "flabbergasting." A steady 35% or so of the U.S. electorate is hardcore racist and/or ignorant and/or anti-democracy, and they've been out in the open at least since the beginning of the Reagan administration.

Sandy S's avatar

They are such a curious mix!!! Many with Ivy League College Educations who sneer at people they consider as lowlife if they are working for a living. While there are also many rather poor people who are there voting for these evil crooks, too! And then there are the Evangelists claiming to be Christians, alongside these obvious White Nationalists also claiming to be Christians. IMO they will soon all be at each others throats when the spell is broken of how they have nothing in common, other than hate.

Susanna J. Sturgis's avatar

And then there are the corporate types and the upper-level techies like Jeff Bozo, the ones who are funding Trump's proposed balls-room. AFAIK they don't claim to worship or believe in anything except profit and their own well-being. I think you're right about them being at each other's throats. People who are only out for themselves have a hard time working with others.

One of these days we'll learn what was really going on in the White House during Trump II.

Justin Sayne's avatar

Exactly. To be more succinct: it’s absolutely flabbergasting…..and very sad and disturbing…..that SO MANY can be SO STUPID!!!

Anton Chekhov's avatar

Some of these people cut off their own food supply. Many Maga are dependent on SNAP. Go figure.

nmgirl's avatar

Many will not even know what is going on until they try to go to the grocery store next week.

right, should say MAGAS

You're close, but not quite there: this should read "MAGAs are idiots blinded by religion and racism".

I hope there is more poll-fodder coming--and soon. From yesterday's Guardian: "JP Morgan’s report said it had flagged about 4,700 transactions, totalling more than $1bn, that were potentially related to reports of human trafficking involving Epstein, the New York Times reported. The report, filed during the last Trump administration, also flagged sensitivities around Epstein’s “relationships with two U.S. presidents”. "

It's the last six words we need to hear more about.

clinton and trump of course

It used to be higher. It’s helpful to focus on that. The No Kings demonstrations brought out the biggest protests in American history, and not just in blue cities, but in ruby-red districts and counties all over the land.

There will always be a hard core contingent of disinformed nasties and loonies out there, but the whole Rube Trumpberg contraption is unraveling in gale-force winds. AND they know it, too.

There’s never been a tyranny on earth that has managed to figure out that the tide can turn in an instant. Yet it so often has. We are winning. They are not. Strip away the idiotic saber-rattling, and it boils down to that.

Nancy's avatar

If it remains 1/3, and we can convince some of them of the cruelty and hatefulness of this regime, then maybe that's not awful. This country has always had its hate-mongers happy to inflict cruelty to elevate white men. They won't go away. We just need to overwhelm them!

"Under the Constitution, states run elections, with some role for Congress, not the president." To follow, I have been much relieved by this sentence. Each state can protect a fair election coming Nov. 2026. Governors can send national guards to protect voters from Trump soldiers. Thank you the Contrarian leaders.

Marianne G's avatar

"Credit where credit is due!" THANK YOU, Norman Eisen, for all your hard work on behalf of The People, our Democracy, and our Constitution. I'll remain a paid subscriber of The Contrarian for as long as I can afford it, which I'm hoping is many years into the future.

Well, maybe you should get out of your bubble to see what other Americans are saying about not only Trump but of Congress as well. There is no halo around either party.

19 years into retirement and much slower physically than I was just last year, I am still a compatriot with all Americans who ever fought and worked for this republic and support my fellow Contrarians. I am here and listening and optimistic that we will defeat the Trump fascists.

Steve 218's avatar

Optimism like yours, patience and work will get us there. The more draconian and unhinged Trump becomes, even the faithful will wobble in their support. We're already beginning to see it. An example is people who used to have Trump yard signs showing up at No Kings rallys with different signs. I've seen it, and it is happening.

Sandy S's avatar

Hang in there Steven! It is men like you that we need to remember and hear from. I know there are others out there whos blood boils when they see what is happening to our military, as well as our country. It is sickening, but you are not alone in knowing it is wrong. "We The People" will correct it. I believe that.

Some courts give us hope after all. Thank you for your great fight and your passionate engagement. These efforts and the results bring light into the darkness.

C. King's avatar

Barbara: Too bad the lower courts don't have the support of SCOTUS--in this case, the "lower" courts are actually higher.

nmgirl's avatar

But who at USDA is going to "push the button" to disburse those funds?

Pam Birkenfeld's avatar

Norm, as a lawyer I am in awe of all you and your colleagues have accomplished.

I keep posting. According to Congressman Eric Swalwell (D-CA) Trumpepstein may cause an "Epstein bomb" causing over 100 Republican members to "jailbreak" from Trump.

Massive Congressional visits November 18.

Visit Congressional Republicans.https://www.mobilize.us/indivisible/event/851451/

I continue to be exasperated by the parties and lawyers with cases when justices and judges who have dispositive records of bribery and prejudice are not challenged. At SCOTUS, Roberts opened the door in November, 2023. https://www.supremecourt.gov/about/Code-of-Conduct-for-Justices_November_13_2023.pdf

CE's avatar

I think the massive Congressional visits could be very effective. It would be amazing if disaffected folks from red states could come!

Daniel Solomon's avatar

From everywhere. Last week several Senate Republicans broke with Trump over tariffs. Many more have taken him on over Ukraine policy, including the Senate chair of the Armed Services Committee. .

Privately many Congressional Republicans admit Trump is bonkers. Up to us to motivate them to come forward.

Irena's avatar

I am stunned that GOP needs us to motivate them. Does that mean they are blind, deaf and dumb? Or just holding on to their measly power? I hope they all have many, many sleepless nights.

Nancy's avatar

Holding on to "measly power" is at the root of their fright! Power and self-interest over humanity and honesty. And to think that we, at least some of "we" put and keep them in power!

Daniel Solomon's avatar

Most are scared shitless of Trump. -- some for their lives.

Only need to find a few to stop Trump in his tracks.

donna woodward's avatar

Why do they fear that stupid weakling? Does he have dirt on them? Are any in Epstein's files?

Daniel Solomon's avatar

1. MAGA violence ala Jan 6.

2. He'll "primary" them.

3. He'll treat them like Liz Cheney and Kizinger.

Robot Bender's avatar

I think it's very likely that some are in the Epstein Files.

L B Rose's avatar

What they don't seem to get is that if most of them all joined together and voted together and spoke together (you know, became United) they would be able to stop or minimize the threats that are hanging over their heads (or at least be able to deal with them). They just need to put aside the moniker "Republican" as applied to the current regime. Call it a Mafia Party. Or Big Brother's Bash. That's more accurate anyway. I assume that they now realize that Agent Orange is FOS, as he proved when he unloaded it on protesters via his airplane meme....

Thomas Moore's avatar

Supporting these court cases is one of the reasons I like being a supporter of The Contrarian.

Of course, if we didn't have a lawless president who generates so much waste, fraud, and abuse of the court system, we wouldn't have to use our own money this way. And we shouldn't have to!

Nancy's avatar

No comment in the news about waste, fraud and abuse any more because our president is at the front of the line committing all of that: busy renovating his temporary home, golfing, flying around the world to no good end, collecting money from foreign countries to build his wealth, and more. Definitely the ruler of waste, fraud, and abuse of national resources!

Hal's avatar

"No comment in the news about waste, fraud and abuse any more because..."

Everyone else has moved on to the next "crisis du jour". Consistency and follow-up is not what the media is best at.

Ellie still in the mix in 26's avatar

Thanks for that news.

More than half of SNAP recipients are minor children, and adults over the age of 60, proving once again that Republicans don't care about children, once they've exited the womb, and look on the elderly (unless they are super wealthy) as Useless Eaters.

Nancy's avatar

I heard someone say that Rs are definitely pro-life, from conception until birth. Then, forget it. You're on your own in the USA!

Hal's avatar

"I heard someone say that Rs are definitely pro-life, from conception until birth."

Not so long ago, one of the tenets of liberals and the Democratic Party was the protection of society's most vulnerable. And that was true except to when came to life in the womb. Then, forget about it.

BGail's avatar

Mr. Eisen, the work you and the Contrarians’s do is so critically important. It is also a comfort to read about when everything else feels so overwhelming and frankly hopeless. Thank you for keeping that glimmer of hope going!

Katherine P Duncan's avatar

Norm, you do the work of the Angels. Thank you again and again for all you and the other Lawyers are doing! I hope against hope that Trump will not defy the Courts on SNAP, and that money will soon be forthcoming. In Kentucky, our Gov. Andy Beshear has opened up the "Rainy Day Fund" to at least provide a temporary stop gap for a couple weeks. But it will not be enough.

Alan Forrest Imhoff's avatar

I think gerrymandering is essentially unconstitutional, given the original mandate for a periodic census. Redistricting is built in, for good reasons, accommodating demographic change every decade. It should be done on the basis of the census, mathematically / geographically, without party input.

Shalise Manza Young reflected on just how much Kamala Harris foresaw, spelled out in her forceful campaign trail warnings of Project 2025’s racist, xenophobic, misogynistic, un-American goals

Nothing against Kamala Harris, but the fact is that anyone who had 2 connected, firing neurons and read the newspaper even once each month could predict exactly what Don the Con was going to do. It was all spelled out in the Project 2025 position. Of course, Don the Con denied knowing who they were, but it was obvious he was lying-- they say "jump" and Don responds with "how high"?

So basically what Don the Con's doing is no surprise-- in fact he's keeping every campaign promise he made, even though tried to duck, dodge, bob and weave about it.

Every patriotic American must vote for Democrats to next Tuesday for:

Mikie Sherrill for Governor of New Jersey and Abigail Spanberger for Governor of Virginia!!

Then we can move on to the mid-terms and organize to defeat as many Republicans as possible.

SENATE: OH: John Husted, AL: Dan Sullivan, TX: John Cornyn, ME: Susan Collins, IA: OPEN,

NC: OPEN

Susan Stone's avatar

As a Texan, I would absolutely love to see Cornyn go down. He does sometimes respond to my correspondence, but I can never tell which issue he is addressing, and all I get is talking points that try to sound reasonable even though they aren't.

Tracy Kohlbeck's avatar

Well done, thank you!

Steve 218's avatar

Sincere thanks to Mr. Eisen and all who were involved in working the SNAP issue through the courts. It is a blow to dictatorial authority and will be appreciated by those in need, and those who don't want our people victimized. Now Trump's appeal, and it will come, must be put down as many times as he pushes it. There are cracks and weakenings showing up in the current GOP way of doing things, and this is good. Better if the party would dissolve and a replacement with integrity, honesty, and rationality would emerge, though this is surely asking too much.
