Boy, my last sheltie would fit that description to a tee. She was a Ph.D candidate in dogland, but when she was obedient, it was because she chose to be, of course, sometimes, also terrified by her human's loud mouth.

Otto, you're a basenji! The half-basenji who lets me live with him (after i adopted him from rescue) would love to meet you. He shares your interest in squirrels, and would like to know your feelings about cats, rodents, possums and raccoons. He barks (the other half seems to be terrier!) but loves to sing. He's only met one basenji in his 13 years with me, and its owner kind of snubbed him. "Let us sing the songs of our people, across the miles." -- Roo in CA
