Our fourteen-and-a-half dog Bartek is keeping us alive in the Twilight Zone we live in now!
We adopted him from a shelter when he was four months old and a scared little guy named Harold at that time. It was not the right name for a fluffy mix of German Shepherd and Border Collie, we think, so he got him a country boy name Bartek, which is a Polish variation of the Bartolomey. He is the best dog we ever had! He just does not like car rides! No other problems for the fourteen years!
I know this is about the POTW (I think Jen Rubin has a thing for acronyms), but Ginny, you deserve all the human-treats you can eat for adopting 2 shelter dogs. You are a life saver. My daughter had a husky for a short time, and Surprise!!! - it was an escape artist. I think it is a trait of the breed. I want to share that dogs should not be pulling sleds at races like the cruel Iditarod, which is an exercise in animal abuse. They should be doing what these two are doing; enjoying life and being loved. Thank you for being absolutely adorable, Max and Gia.
Yep, huskies can be sly and smart and love to challenge you but also have a sweet demeanor. And I think shelter dogs are grateful and show it in the best ways.
I have an addiction to watching videos of huskies talking back to their humans. There is something so relatable about that. Like a really mouthy kid that you love, but just want to be mellow at the moment.
Wish I could meet them! What totally adorable dogs!! Many years ago a friend had a husky who could escape from anything; truly nothing could keep her in. In Max's case, probably it was lucky for him that he is a capable escape artist given what he'd been through before being at the shelter. Good luck in keeping him in; probably the best bet is to just turn your house over to Max and Gia. Thanks for sharing!!!!
Precious pups 🐶 My favorite encounter with a Husky was in Alaska on a sled. We got to play with the puppies on our excursion but surprisingly not all sled dogs in Alaska are Huskies some resemble Gia!!! 🐾🐾
Same in Michigan. Many of the sled dogs are husky mixes like Gia w/different and multi-colored coats, some have shorter hair. But all are runners and gorgeous.
I fell in love with Huskies when I was teaching at Bemidji State University in MN. Best job of my life and learning about Huskies was another benefit of living there.

My first dog, Sage, was a 65 lb. Husky Shepherd mix who had been abused and dumped in Fairmount Park in Riverside, CA. After months of us training together., he ended up helping start Paws for Literacy where kids came monthly to the libraries and read to the dogs. Fabulous. He worked with me, on the job, at two hospitals and helped teach students at two different universities. He published two books about himself: The Adventures of Sage, the Super Service Dog. What learning curves, for both of us. He loved cats, other dogs and people, and never chased a squirrel. A truly amazing, kind, compassionate guy who was always smiling,...like you, Max and Gia! Thank you for bringing joy into this world.
Nice hearing about your first dog Sage and the wonderful work you did together. Years ago I had two dogs (one was a husky) in a program where we would visit residents at a senior living center and it was a remarkable experience to watch them interact.

He’s too old now to either jump or climb the fence but that doesn’t mean he won’t try to unlock the gate 😂
