I gave my adopted dog a leather baseball glove to chew--each time she went for a shoe, I have her the glove. The glove lasted four years, and I kept my shoes. Love the name Alvin 🐶
Wow. At age 4 our dog Jasper continues to steal and eat all kinds of clothing, eyeglasses, TV remotes, pillows, blankets, cloth napkins, hats, etc. He is most fond of socks, particularly my expensive Point 6 wool socks and he has eaten two North Face caps. Do you think I can find a substitute of all of those things??
Keep giving him lots of attention when he does something good. Treat him like a toddler and keep the easy things for him to take up out of his reach. Leave a kong with peanut butter or cream cheese in it and tell him to get it. Making another game to take the place of the other may help.
Well, I walk Jasper an hour every morning. 3 times a week he goes to a big indoor dog park (we live in Phoenix) to play with his friends and in our living room is a big metal bucket that holds all his toys. Which he spends a lot of time with everyday. I think his stealing really is more related to a game he has made up. When he steals something he runs out back and stands where he can see us through the back door. If we see him he runs back and pretty easily gives up the item. If we don't see him, he gives up waiting and eats it. He is really smart, but I don't know how to turn this around. I keep a big wastebasket available for my 9 year old granddaughters when they come over after school. They immediately put their shoes, toys, backpacks, etc in it so Jasper won't eat them. We all love him. He is the sweetest dog ever. But he is frustrating.
We adopted a dog who also had separation anxiety. He also chewed up anything in sight when we left even for for a very short while. I still have a Rubbermaid measuring cup with most of its handle chewed off! One day the lightbulb went off over his head and he realized we always came back when we left the house. After that, he didn't chew anything.
ALVIIIIIIN!! I love you so muuuuch!! I dog sit for a full hound dog who was adopted and she’s very much a goofy big ol’ galump!!! She’s so stubborn and absolutely adorable! Don’tcha love a good foster fail??
My two kittens are contrarian to the core. They are three and a half months old and always surprise me with what they get into like the dryer, dishwasher, oven etc.. But they are back in my good graces when they curl up in my lap and purr loudly!

Jasper is not selective in what he chews. Toys and a leather glove, plus an hour walk, 2 Frisbee sessions a day and my Betsy is happy.

How does Alvin feel being named after a 🐿 chipmunk? 😁
I picture Alvin in a doggie T-shirt with a giant A on it.😁
Great photo of Alvin out in the snow!
