This is the first I've heard of plans to demolish the Kennedy Center. What's next? The Lincoln Memorial? Thanks for being on top of it and fighting to reign in this mad king!

I'd already been sickened by it, so it was great to see muscular action being taken to stop it. I don't think it's a coincidence that the dangerous old man made the announcement after the failure of the "gala opening" of "Melania" which took place there in a resounding silence.

He's not sane. He's at the stage when he shouldn't be allowed out of his bedroom. 25th. No joke. Who are these people who sit in meetings where he dozes off, and break into applause whenever he says something? How can the non-elected be the decision-makers?

The Cabinet has the duty to invoke the 25th Amendment. Look at who is in it. All loyal toadies and lackeys. They won't do what desparately needs to be done.

donna woodward's avatar

An enraged, unhinged, deluded, desperate, cognitively-impaired despot with the nuclear codes at his fingertips: what could go wrong? He appointed a Cabinet without a sense of judgment or responsibility among them.

Steve 218's avatar

That he did, and you pegged it well.

donna woodward's avatar

Thank you, Norm. While protecting the Kennedy Center might not seem as consequential as stopping an unlawful war might be, every blow for the rule of law against the lunacy that now overwhelms the Oval Office, is a victory we need.

"Consequential."

Trump's vulnerability is TrumpEpstein. We need to keep the eye on the ball and prioritize.

Note the vote on the Bondi subpoena. Then note the votes on other issues like war powers.

There is so much in this! It’s like reading a book—The Plethora: Sins of Trump—!

I am a science guy. At this moment in world history Trump believes that he IS Genghis Khan, Alexander the Great, Caligula...Hitler, Moussolini...an immutable force...and, guess what? He is. He is unstoppable. He has access to unlimited funding, support from equally deluzzzioned sicko-phants, and occupies a demographic, social, and political position where he is unstoppable. Without an external intervention - death- trauma- a bullet- until 3 November 2026, nothing stands in his way to invading Iran Cuba, Greenland, Panama... keep going...it's a long list now. Look at what he did in Venezuela! Have you ever seen what a Caterpillar 374 excavator can do to a mountain? I wake every morning wondering, "is he dead yet?" Trump has annihilated, spavined, the soul of America...but, our Soul is invincible, in the best ways. Even after the Hiroshima and Nagasaki atomic bombs, our species grew back. It may take 20 years to recover from what Trump has perpetrated but we will grow back. ...science tells us that. Be committed to voting, getting everyone to vote. Other than that have faith in the human spirit and our Soul.

If our lack of response to climate change doesn't allow us to anihilate ourselves first, nature may take the lead and just start over.

Happy to be a Contrarian subscriber and support Norm's work and the work of his colleagues! I just found the video of President Obama's remarks at Jesse Jackson's Celebration of Life. We all need to see and hear it and be reminded of what actual leadership sounds like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vvrxJ1dTnXE

Obama is a masterful rhetorician. But he has been MIA in his post-presidency. Especially since Jan 20, 2025 we needed every sane voice available speaking out. Where was Obama? Did he go to Chicago to stand with Gov. Pritzker against ICE? Did he do any pro bono legal work for ICE victims in the city that gave him his political start? Where was he on the No Kings Days? I'll give Biden a pass because of his physical and cognitive frailty. Clinton too might have done more, been more of a presence and model of resistance to the current president. Jimmy Carter was still out helping build homes in his nineties. Still teaching Sunday school. Where has Obama been?

Robin Lawson's avatar

@LHS Yes, and then there was this. Can we dream of the day Jennifer Hudson performs at the Kennedy Center again?

These military misadventures have one underlying aim: it's not regime change and its not nuclear deterrence. (No more than our piracies and murders in the Caribbean were about prevention of drug-smuggling.) This president is in pursuit of a Churchillian legacy of bringing down an enemy empire. He's looking for a place in history alongside Churchill and FDR (and no doubt Nelson, Bonaparte and Caesar too.) He thinks too that war will distract Congress and Americans from the Epstein files. And he expects Americans to support a wartime president, in the midterms elections and thereafter.

Legacy, escape from legal accountability, and political survival: these are the reasons we're trapped in this billion-dollar-a-day-folly.

Steve 218's avatar

Even considering this crazed lunatic in the same paragraph with Churchill and FDR is an abomination, and things didn't end up that well for Napoleon. His legacy will be one of a monumental failure of a regime that should never have gotten a foothold in our country. Once again, it goes back to Congress, specifically Mitch McConnell and his ilk.

donna woodward's avatar

Steve, I assume you realize that any resemblance of this president to Churchill et all isn't my delusion but his!

Steve 218's avatar

As the saying goes, it's not you, it's HIM, and there's little doubt that if he is capable of thinking, that he belives everything that you said about him.

Thanks for your efforts on our behalf, Norm! We are finding out the consequences of placing a deranged dictator in the Oval Office. I agree we need to be litigating, but we also need desperately to be working on amendments to the Constitution to prevent the election of another lawless cabal hellbent on destroying a great nation. We need to totally rethink the whole concept of the Executive in the Constitution.

People who don't study history, you tend to repeat it

On December 7, 1941, Japanese Ambassadors Kurusu and Nomura were supposedly here to negotiate Peace with Cordell Hull.

Instead, they were to deliver a message declaring war to be delivered BEFORE the Japanese Navy attacked Pearl Harbor.

The attack caused great indignation and anger in America.

Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto, the planner of the Pearl Harbor attack, said that he feared "all we have done is awaken a sleeping Giant, and filled him with a terrible resolve."

Before we attacked Iran, Kushner and Witkoff were negotiating with the Iranian Foreign Minister, Those negotiations were on-going.

Instead, Our CONVICTED FELON, President TRUMP was listening to Israels' INDICTED FELON NETANYAHU to start a war against people who don't like us but are not capable of directly attacking us.

In 1945, Tribunals in Europe and Japan. resulted in "WAR CRIMINALS" being imprisoned and/or executed for crimes against humanity and the Laws of War.

Thanks to NETANYAHU and TRUMP we have NO MORAL AUTHORITY to decry baldfaced aggression by the likes of PUTIN or anyone else.

Dear Norm- Thanks for this critical update about the Kennedy Center! I live in Ohio but have worked in DC and have been to the Kennedy Center. DC is filled with monuments, both sculptural AND architectural. These monuments, whether big ones like the Lincoln Memorial, or smaller ones like the William Blackstone statue, and architecturally, the Smithsonian Institution, the National Gallery and of course the Kennedy Center are the property of the United States and exist for every person, citizen or not, to visit. Visiting DC and seeing how our National Park Service, our GSA Fine Arts Division and our Architect of the Capitol, among other government entities, care for all of this for all of us is truly remarkable. We are so fortunate to have to have historically significant monuments and architecture, our history, kept in good condition and cared for. Stopping one man, or one administration, from destroying our historic legacy which is entrusted to all of us is so important. You are using your powers and the powers of the Contrarian for the good of us all. Thank you for doing the best work!

Thank you for your continued vigilence! This was the first that I'd heard that there was any talk of demolishing the Kennedy Center. Closed in a fit of pique for "renovation" yes, demolished no. Are there plans afoot to pull down the Lincoln Memorial and replace it with an Arc du Trump? Nothing seems out of the range of illegal actions for this madman.

As for Iran, shame on Trump. He and his partner war criminal Netanyahu have now caused a preemptive war of choice to destabilize the whole damned region, just as I suspected would happen when it all started, and shame on the Magapublican Congress on both counts. Why are we paying them not to do their jobs? They could (and should) have put the brakes on all of this. Useless.

The Republicans (and Fetterman) in Congress are so supine that Trump is now a dictator for all practical purposes.

I’d like to add.

Last night, in a prominent segment on MSNBC s Last Word show, with very visible credit to Contrarian, Judge Luttig gave a very effective presentation of some of the many ways in which Degenerate Don’s attacks on Iran was violating the Constitution and domestic and international law.

Well worth looking at, as well as the recent opinion piece he co-authored with a bipartisan group of senators.
