I was more than surprised to read that Thomas Reuter has turned the venerable news disseminator into a for profit diversified company. Reuters is all in on selling private info that they have acquired through the electronics of license plate readers. Is there nothing that has been corrupted in our new and more dangerous take of an Orwellian world?
But I must add that I find a bit of satisfaction in the irony that street surveillance and home protection cameras are allowing at least some visual and real time evidence -- what ICE does not, and cannot because the militia does not use or have body cameras.
Susan Collins is trying to rewrite her history of voting -- for the funding of ICE and DHS, because, as she retorts, it was her push to put in protections for the public, with among other things $20 million for cameras. Oh, when was that? The "cameras" must be in the mail!
I got a ticket while I was driving in Newport Rhode Island, there were no kids in school at the time but they caught my car going 5 miles over the speed limit in a school zone and sent me a warning. I didn’t realize the extent of involvement with these cameras in other surveillance. And I always admired Reuters news operation. This is no good, this new venture of theirs. Americans might be used to this surveillance because it seems every crime committed in Britain is caught on the CCTV as they call it, at least in the PBS mystery shows I watch!
Yes school zone cameras are a cheap and easy way of making money through tickets that do not require a traffic stop, or put points on a driver's license (because the ticket cause to the car). It's promoted as safety, but if you read the ticket (at least in Bklyn), it states that you can receive 12 tickets before the registered car owner has to go to a class). And if the speed limit is 25mph, you get a ticket if you speed is 10+ over it (i.e.,36mph but not 35!!). Quite the rip-off in my city who is increasingly hostile to drivers, who often live in transit deserts in the outer boroughs, that are only counted as part of NYC when it comes to election time visits.
OK, pardon my rant -- but it's certainly part and parcel to our surveillance society, with license plates stored, place and time. For law enforcement and another source of revenue -- selling our info.
This began with the Patriot Act after 9/11 another step in losing Democray began with Reagon and counted with McConnell who effectively did nothing , just oppose in all this years in the Senate then saved Trump , voting against Impeachment twice.
I'm not a lawyer, which is probably obvious from some of my comments on the Contrarian. So my non-legal mind has a tough time getting itself around the whole idea of ICE making traffic stops. I thought that was a police thing. Is it even legal, or can anybody make traffic stops? Can I?
Really, what is the legal justification for ICE making traffic stops? And are they trained for it?
This isn’t the first time Trump has gone after those two monuments! Time to say no! Stand with the Tribes trying to protect what is left of our unspoiled land. There must be oil or minerals in those locations to keep them going back. NO! Hands off our protected lands. Make permanent these protections will be another task to tackle!
I sure hope the different organizations out there are writing policy and model legislation that can be used from jump street. We need an immigration policy! Amount hundreds of other issues. Hope there is a list happening somewhere
Russ Vought and Miller and Carr and all the rest, basalt? All a bunch of crooks. They have been stealing from us since Inauguration Day and will continue if not stopped. Trump isn’t running the government. He’s a mouthpiece. They let him do his ridiculous shit and say any fucked up thing he wants as long as he backs them when it comes to policy and how money is spent. I think they’re happy when he’s focused on his vanity projects so he’s out of their way. Just curious? Who voted for any of them? Does MAGA ever have a clue as to the big picture here…I think not.
