That's amazing! Only up and running for about a month and already you have half a million subscribers! Congratulations! Just goes to show there's a huge audience out here waiting for quality journalism, intelligent conversation, and great community! Well done, Jen, Norm and The Contrarian team!

Thank you all!!! Feeling more energized!

A fellow Contrarian created this petition urging the DNC to act quickly in pursuit and preservation of democracy. Please read and consider signing and circulating widely:

Thanks so much for the Ornstein piece on the Kennedy Center Board. It's clear they have a case that what Trump did was illegal. I sincerely doubt that they would proceed with it for 2 reasons: It's already been 8 days since they were ousted. The Center President who was interviewed two days later, when asked if what he did was illegal, said she couldn't speak to that.

More cowards.

Congratulations.

Now, with half a million subscribers and your inside-Bulwark Substack connections, would you consider proposing a spontaneous, peaceful rally for Ukraine whenever it is Putin is supposed to visit. It would be nice to see a phalanx of American citizens around the White House while Putin is petting his lapdog Trump. Anyone thinking about a welcome, or a citizen's arrest, of the Russian human rights criminal?

Tonight, the Post is reporting that the Mango Malfeasance is now planning to issue an "order" to dissolve the Post Office. Which, of course, is illegal and unconstitutional.

But I'm sure we will soon see articles of impeachment being drafted in the Republican-controlled House Judiciary Committee to remind us all that we do not have kings in America.

Any day now....Not long.

Just a few more minutes, be patient....

Maybe the articles are being delivered on snail-back?

Regarding the the mindless slashing of vital government employees, Sarah Longwell, who agrees with reducing the size of the federal government but not the way they're doing it, said that it's possible that those employees really are nonessential. If their agencies don't fail, then they were.

That is the only way Trump/Musk can think they can slash an agency and it will still function. Or, of course, they don't care whether it functions or not. If people are hurt, they will blame the Dems.

So we stand by waiting to see how dysfunctional the federal government becomes and who gets hurt. I thinknk the Contrarian writers are seeking out those stories, yes?

Domenica Alioto's avatar

Thanks SandyG! Yes, we're actively seeking out those stories--a piece about those affected is forthcoming (and will likely become a regular feature, unfortunately).

I'm sort of reminded of early COVID days when 'nonessential' employees were sent home and suddenly we had economic collapse. This isn't as widespread - YET - but the economy is already showing adverse consequences. We also know from having watched doctors and nurses work flat out covering the gaps that some 'nonessential' are actually not. They provide a sanity and efficiency cushion that the system can't work without.

Completely agree that it's time to start interviewing fired federal workers and people on the downstream end of funding shut-offs. Right here in NC, communities are still digging out and trying to rebuild after the devastation of Hurricane Helene. Cutting FEMA funding and other federal assistance is hurting people in desperate need. We NEED to start hearing from those folks!

Democratic members of House need to back a moderate Republican, Don Bacon of Nebraska, a strong supporter for Ukraine, to replace the current Speaker, who is in Trump's back pocket. Stop wasting their votes on trying to elect Jeffries.

There's more at stake here than just Ukraine. IF there is a challenge to the Speakership in the very near future, it will be worth some quiet discussions with Rep. Bacon to see what he can bring to the position - and what's in it for the Dems in the House.

Your work on the Contrarian is a God send. Your honesty, integrity and truth seeking are vital if we are to strategically resist and beat the Muskrats in trying to destroy our country. I am a 79 year old retired pastor and your truth telling is helping me get on board to help organize and act against the Muskrats. But then I haven't been arrested doing civil disobedience for over three years. I need to get back at all this as a part of my prophetic call from God and will be joining many union folk as we prepare our resistance. Thank you.
