The AI video over the weekend is also a perfect metaphor for what he is doing to this country & Americans... he literally is shitting all over it & everyone.

Ellie still in the mix in 26's avatar

True. For once, he's being honest about what he wants to do. I did laugh at the oxygen mask - not over his nose.

It's Come To This's avatar

It mimicks the contempt his MAGAzoids displayed during the pandemic, when they deliberately wore their masks incorrectly in order to give a giant middle finger not just to Anthony Fauci, but to the millions of us who actually took Covid seriously.

Howardsp's avatar

I hadn’t thought of that. You are right.

And to the millions who died from Covid.

The largest peaceful protest in American history. The largest peaceful protest in American history. Keep repeating it!

We are rising up! History is not on their side.

Christine's avatar

No offense, but they don't care if history is not on their side.

These followers of Trump and even the educated members of Congress don't care about anything but themselves and their power.

Catherine E's avatar

There are more of us than there are of them. We’ll have to work hard, but we can prevail. The tide is shifting.

Desirree's avatar

I agree with that statement. It's obvious that no one in Trumps regime care about accountability and this is just a power grab. To think they are sensitive to anything is a big mistake. There are no rules to play by so I'm not sure where that leaves us.

Japan, the country America taught democracy, has just elected a woman as their prime minister first time iin the history. America is still waiting for a woman president. The culture of looking down women and racisim are against the Constitution, and as Lincoln recognized in his second inauguaral an offence against God. Those who voted for Trump must know well that he was responsible for Jan. 6 and a danger to our country. Nonetheless, they chose him because of their bias against female leadership and racism. What we are observing is the punishment for this offense agasint Almighty.

Where are the votes?

Daniel Solomon's avatar

Consider the Jerry Weiss scenario. https://jerryweiss.substack.com/

To get started, ask Republican House members to sign the Epstein discharge petition.

Trumpepstein may be the vehicle to bring Congressional Republicans to their senses. Congressman Eric Swalwell (D-CA) tweeted about an "Epstein bomb" about to drop; over 100 Republican members might "jailbreak" from Trump.

Massive Congressional visits November 18.

Steve 218's avatar

Releasing the Epstein files might indeed be a safe exit ramp for the GOP leadership to return to their jobs. Confidence isn't high, but it's a hope.

Daniel Solomon's avatar

It's not the actual release as much as Congressional Reublicans standing up to Trump!

John Gregory's avatar

for sure. There is nothing in the Epstein files that people don't already know, certainly about Trump. There is a ton of evidence under oath (mainly in the Maxwell trial) about Trump abusing girls. And over 25 women have accused him publicly, including E Jean Carroll, who won two defamation suits against him for denying it.

Not to mention the Access Hollywood tape from 2016 where he exulted in his ability to kiss women (and girls) and grab them by their privates.

So: everybody knows who this guy is. No doubt the files have lots more detail, but none of it will be news, just gross extra filth.

donna woodward's avatar

And what will it take to get the votes? Sometimes it's an insignificant-seeming thing that will turn the tide and rouse the population.

My insides are aching with the loss. I think because this is just a trigger for every other loss for our struggling democracy. So many illegal, cruel, and heartbreaking acts of hate and persecution and now this. You are right it is such a glaringly in-your-face metaphor for the destruction of our democracy. So gutwrenchingly awful. The feels like more retribution for No Kings day. Like the sh*t video was.

Oh and thanks for explaining about the artillery firing over Interstate 5. This got such little coverage in the press even though it is another step toward civil war. They could have killed people and they are only getting started. Thanks so much for all you do.

Steve 218's avatar

We now have to go to numerous sources to get "all of the news that's fit to print". The Guardian did a good job on the I-5 shoot-over, and Governor Newsom's position on closing a section of the highway for the action.

I have been crying lately. A lot. I can't seem to stop. My heart hurts for those who will lose their SNAP benefits. Those who will no longer be able to afford health insurance. I am fortunate in that my Medicare Advantage plan was discontinued and the nearest offering the nearly the same benefits will cost nearly three times what my current one does but that won't break the bank. I sincerely hope that once those in the southern red states will feel the pain he's inflicting on them and vote Democratic in the midterms.

As an aside, I wish people would stop referring to the felon as making promises. He is a pathological liar, full stop. He makes "promises", does the opposite and people wait for the absurd justification, or in this case, just telling Treasury employees to not share evidence of his lies.

Denis Pombriant's avatar

In this representative democracy, there is too little to do between elections. The protests are good but they lack staying power. Now is the time for a national strike. It does not have to shut down the economy, it simply needs to be big enough to dent quarterly profits. Consider limiting discretionary purchases, that ought to be enough.

Steve 218's avatar

What would be wrong with doing a little personal planning so that on one single day, the people of this country could buy nothing at all? Take the first traditional shopping day after Thanksgiving as target example.

John Lucken's avatar

What a great idea! I’ve been thinking General Strike for a while now but pushing Black Friday profits into the Red might be more realistic & would get the oligarchs attention.

Call it Red Friday & republicans will think they thought of it.

Denis Pombriant's avatar

Ok, think of the macro effect you want. Is it an economic slowdown? Or is it to fire a warning shot across the bow? I have no interest in the former, but if you want to look at the latter, then realize that each person participates in the economy in slightly different ways and even very big companies are small when it comes to their susceptibility to market slowdowns. In English this means that we don’t all have to do the same thing to get attention. While some might stop or slow their purchases of one particular product or service, others might find that impossible. But in aggregate the thing that matters is that we each withhold some participation in the market. I suggest we look at our paychecks and monthly spending. If each of us were to decide to save an amount of money rather than spending, we’d have more money at the end of the month and the macro effect would be evident in the GDP. About 70% of GDP represents spending by individuals. There are about 333 million people in the US, about 132 million households. If the average household refused to spend just $25 per week that would amount to $13.2 billion and that would be enough to get noticed.

dagmar karppi's avatar

This is a fascinating concept. If we don't spend money we can have an effect on the economy. This would be a great way to work against the tariffs. Cars are going up in price and maybe this is the year to not buy a car. Get a tune up and change the fluids and new filters and wait for when DJT is out of office.

dagmar karppi's avatar

I do like your choice of the day... we can turn Black Friday into Blue Friday.

We can turn the biggest day for selling into a quiet reminder that we are a Democracy, and not a kingdom.

And what fun to let Bezos lose money that day in honor of his funding the Big Bad Taste Ballroom.

dagmar karppi's avatar

I still like my idea of all of us doing just nothing one day a week. No spending or attending. Let the news show that Americans have the power to stop the economy for one day just to show that we exist and want him to desist. I was elated watching the millions of Americans out in the streets on No Kings Day. I am so gladdened to see how we are mobilizing to visibly show our diecontent. He might be laughing at the event but I am sure he got the message. Of course that is wishful thinking on my part. Remember that he won by the smallest margin of any election, but he calls it a mandate. We just have to keep getting out there to show him there is a real mandate --- to stop his cruelty towards Americans, our healthcare, educational institutions, freedom of the press. and it goes on....

Denis Pombriant's avatar

I like your idea too. But I am looking for a macro effect which is easier to get with more people and less effort.

dagmar karppi's avatar

Tell me and let's all do it.

P.S.

I loved that marchers wore costumes for two reasons I think. One was to show the police that it was a peaceful demonstration and the other... dressed to reflect our Clownish President. But he is a very dangerous clown.

Buddy Friend's avatar

This is not a representative democracy.

Politicians tell you what they will do for you in campaigns, then get elected they go to Washington and do what they want to do and do not represent their constituents.

It’s party over the people and they do not represent their people. Sad but true.

Friedrike Merck's avatar

The 1942 East Wing was erected at the height of asbestos use in the US.

The plumes of dust captured in demolition photos and videos, contain known carcinogens that cause mesothelioma.

The regime doesn't want photos of the desecration for many reasons... air born asbestos being one of them. In your spare time read what is federally and locally required re demolition of buildings with asbestos. It's a big deal.

Curiously, the Wiki entry for the East Wing reads; It was first built in 1902, then renovated and expanded in 1942. In 2025, much of it was demolished as part of a planned rebuild to accommodate the White House State Ballroom.

Who wrote this, in the past tense?! And what the hell is "a planned rebuild"? It's BS, that's what it is.

Along with rallies for democracy, it looks like we also need to establish a Wiki Watch.

Elizabeth Kingfield's avatar

In 2025, much of it was demolished as part of a planned rebuild to accommodate the White House State Ballroom.

OMG this is so dystopian.

Catherine Beck's avatar

You are so, so right about asbestos fibres and the incurable lung cancer they cause called mesothelioma. A friend of mine died of mesothelioma. The US boasts excellent federal and state regulations about how to carefully demolish a building containing asbestos insulation and other materials (e.g. floor tiles) having asbestos in them so that the risks to human health are minimized. It seems the demolition orders for this project were not to give a s**t.

Gloria Marconi's avatar

We can only hope that the Dear Leader visits the site every day so he can crow about how wonderful the tasteless ballroom will be and inhales all that wonderful asbestos.

Friedrike Merck's avatar

Why do you think he's out of town???

Sally Fell's avatar

I heard on MSNBC that there is a protocol for renovation that was not followed, involving the approval of a bi-partisan Congressional Committee, and overseen by an architectural office that oversees all public buildings in D.C., to ensure the design aligns with the historical aesthetic of the site. Of course the protocol was not followed, and as for asbestos -- we know how this administration regards health and science. I hope Trump breathes deeply...inhaling the disaster he has wrought.

Andan Casamajor's avatar

Just yesterday, ever clueless, he told reporters that he loved construction noise, because it makes him think of money. Is there anything that doesn't make him think about money?

Sally Fell's avatar

I'm afraid that's why he sought a second, seemingly endless term. A large part of his retribution is to destroy our nation, and personally confiscate our wealth, give or take a number of other oligarchs and Big Industry, that have catered to his whims in order to receive contracts and favors. Think about it -- he's doing his best to kill science, education, the arts, deprive children, seniors, and veterans of due support, and obliterate anything related to our liberty and rights as citizens. He may be in cahoots with Russia, Qatar, and other foreign nations, enacting policies they want as long as he prospers. ... Someday, PhD candidates will conduct the research necessary to follow the money. But, you are absolutely right ... EVERYTHING makes him think of money!!

dagmar karppi's avatar

I guess he is actually King Midas.

But honestly, why isn't he getting a Stop Order for the work. Isn't there any

agency that has the power to treat his actions and stop his rampage through our country.?

Nancy's avatar

I would never have thought of asbestos abatement! We need some headlines about this because people are in danger. I know someone with asbestos-caused mesothelioma, and it's an awful thing to live with, albeit a shorter lifespan than would have been enjoyed without it.

Friedrike Merck's avatar

Shall we meet in DC near the WH in Hazmat suites? I could be there tomorrow, Thursday.

Nancy's avatar

I'm too far away to get there, but it's a great idea! Washingtonians (DC) unite in Hazmat suits!

donna woodward's avatar

I wish. Am caregiver for an elderly family member, pretty out of circulation except for nearby No Kings things.

Anne Pierce's avatar

Very good point about the asbestos. Properly abating it is a lengthy, messy undertaking that must be done after hours if the building is occupied. Was anything at all done before the contractor just started?

Friedrike Merck's avatar

Nothing, and none of the workers are wearing haz mat suites or resperators.

donna woodward's avatar

Given his greed he'll probably try to rent this out as an event space. Regardless of the asbestos dangers.

dagmar karppi's avatar

My fear is that he wil use it for fundraising for his next term of office.

Maybe the first fundraiser will be to get Santos back onto his feet now

that he has been pardoned. He is after all the Poster Boy for Republicans

dagmar karppi's avatar

You remind me that DJT said there are no permits required for the project. Oh, but now I remember, he lies all the time.

What I was wondering is what effect will bathrooms for 500 guests and caterers and staff do to the water district and sewer distirct in that city. Locally permitting is required for a greater use of those facilities than exist currently.

Well, we will find out when they start to tear up the streets to allow for that need.

John Lucken's avatar

I support non-profit Wikipedia. Their editors efficiently update entries as events happen. Nothing nefarious. I also did asbestos abatement at a school when I was between jobs in the late 1980’s. You are correct. It’s a big deal involving containment, respirators & other hazmat personal protection. Many protocols probably not being followed. We even showered after our shifts. It was tedious & awful work. They preferred hiring smokers because of the health risks. I found other work thankfully.

Brava encora, Jen. The wreckage of the WH called to mind a hilarious--for the time--Barry Blitt cartoon in the New Yorker during Trump I depicting Orange Fatty casually smashing the WH's windows with golf balls. How quaint. Whatever starts out as a satirical hyperbole with Trump will eventually become an understatement.

Dr. Judith Schlesinger's avatar

I LOVE Barry Blitt. I still keep his cover for 9/11, which depicted the twin towers in black on a black background. Powerful stuff. Bought his book, a collection of his inimitable work, and muchly recommend it!

There is more and more evidence each day of how out of control the felon is. He is getting weaker by the day too. Keep up the pressure, as Glenn Kirschner says “Pressure bursts pipes”.

Where are the Democrat ads featuring pics of the demolished WH, artillery rounds exploding over a highwa, etc? Trump is providing the video. It should be easy.

dagmar karppi's avatar

It is the perfect photo-op. I hope there are some Democrats with the courage to do that.

Democrats are acting normal toward a president who acts outrageously and without thought.

Give him back what he throws at us.

Sue Connaughton's avatar

The desecration of the White House, the People’s House, literally took my breath away. Pictures of the demolition look as if the structure has been bombed. The trump regime has no respect for the history and significance of the building. The White House is not the private property of any president, yet trump is treating it as such. Trump’s rebuilding of an entire wing of the building certainly makes it seem that he has no intention of leaving at the end of his term.

dagmar karppi's avatar

You are correct and we have a giant job to make sure that doesn't happen.

MargaretPacL's avatar

Jen, this article holds the truth of what we are currently experiencing. I believe the missiles over I-5 were a warning to all Americans who disagree with this administration. It is past time to Impeach. Who would be the most inclined to submit articles of Impeachment. I know Republicans own both houses, but I also believe that we have many Republicans who disagree with Trump's deranged actions. If we don't at least try he may actually detonate missiles on civilians. Nick Paro here on substack wrote a small piece saying that ICE has obtained armament generally used for war. The war is coming in our direction if we allow it.

Catherine Beck's avatar

Nick Paro is correct. I read about ICE purchases of armaments in the mainstream media yesterday.

MargaretPacL's avatar

Catherine, it seems to me we're on the verge of a civil war. We can't allow this to happen. I feel we should contact our governors to see how they will handle the situation should they start using RPG's and other war armaments on civilians. I'm in California.

Paula's avatar

I'm in ruby red Indiana stuffed full of magats. Our governor and especially lt gov will be happy to see how many of the rest of us they can get rid of.

MargaretPacL's avatar

Paula, I'm sorry you're surrounded by MAGA people.

I've had so many people say to me they have voters remorse. I don't believe he won the presidency legally. I believe Musk had his young employees hack the voting system.

Paula's avatar

I agree Margaret. Nothing will convince me he won. I've got magat neighbors, but they are all good neighbors and we never talk politics. I just stay home and don't socialize much. DonOLD and Couchfucker have been in Indianapolis trying to get our legislature to gerrymander our only two districts in the entire state that are Democratic.

Catherine Beck's avatar

Basically I can only follow events and give as much factual encouragement as I can --- since I'm a Canadian. As a neighbour, one can support, but not interfere.

Roger Helbig's avatar

To impeach, you not only need a majority in the House of Representatives, but you need a 2/3 majority in the Senate and that is not possible at present. People in Red States need to make their Senators know that it is time that they do their job for the country and not for Trump and Trumpicans. Trump will just wear a third impeachment without conviction by the Senate as another feather in his cap.

donna woodward's avatar

If the Dems can get a majority in the House and at least a little more than a majority of Senators, and presuming the country keeps declining and "he" keeps doing crazy destructive illegal things, and if voters keep up the pressure, maybe some Republican Senators will cross over to convict.

MargaretPacL's avatar

Roger, do you think going the route of the 25th Amendment may be more successful than impeachment?

Roger Helbig's avatar

It is less likely than a Senate Impeachment conviction. Look at the Amendment and who needs to propose the removal and vote on it. Right now, they are all Trump ultra-loyalists. See https://www.rawstory.com/donald-trump-25th-amendment/

Steve 218's avatar

You said it. The invocation of the 25th Amendment has to start with the cabinet, who are all lackeys and toadies at the most, and Trump loyalists at the least. They would never start the action.

John Gregory's avatar

that's probably one of the main reasons they were appointed - because they did not have the intellectual or political or moral strength to challenge Trump via the 25th Amendment.

Ellie still in the mix in 26's avatar

My Republican Rep (Nick Langworthy NY23) certainly doesn't disagree. He lets me know constantly, that the short-fingered vulgarian "has a Mandate," and can do anything he wants, and rah rah!

MargaretPacL's avatar

It's pretty sickening when our representatives write back in this manner. I have a friend in TN who receives the same type of responses from her Republican representative. She's sickened by this. I'm very concerned about our midterms as well. There's so much cheating going on by this administration.

Dr. Judith Schlesinger's avatar

Ellie still in the mix in 26's avatar

Sorry for laughing - it's not at you, but more a bit of bitter laughter. I write to him several times a week, and have been since the last presidential election. Before that, it was only 3 or 4 times a month. Like most reps., you can only contact him through his website if you are a constituent. I know there's an address for everyone (and a phone number), but I don't have it handy at the moment. I'm sure I'll be writing him at least twice more this week.

Dr. Judith Schlesinger's avatar

GOOD ON YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Paulette Lincoln-Baker's avatar

I feel total despair right now at the lack of outrage from people after that traitor took a wrecking ball to OUR White House. I thought maybe this finally will wake them up but no. Half this country is still asleep. And I'm sorry, I find the the timing of this wrecking ball to the East Wing very suspicious, coming only 2 days after the No Kings protests. I know this project has been in the works for awhile but the timing has a feeling of-- pardon my French--fuck the American people. The hope I got out of Saturday's protests is already gone.

Dr. Judith Schlesinger's avatar

Dear Paulette, please don't despair. No Kings protests were glorious and cathartic and often hilarious, but made little difference to those who are systematically dismantling our democracy. Too many people are still congratulating themselves for the display, but truly? They were only a small part of what we can be doing -- even if it seems small, it's part of the pressure. If we all call our Congresspeople, or email the White House, donate what we can to the lawyers who are fighting him, send postcards, put up signs and stickers, boycott the big corporations who support him, etc., etc., we are doing something real. For instance, I have to believe that a mind creaks open each time I send someone to The Contrarian, which many have never heard of. In contrast to the protests, it may seem an invisible thing, but there's more to be done, every day.

Put the wind back in your sails, we're still moving!!! lol

Dr. Judith Schlesinger's avatar

Thank you, Justin! Now that you gave me such a supportive opening, I also find it immensely frustrating that there's a huge generation so devoted to spectacle. Each loses its glitter soon after it appears, to be replaced by The Next Big Thing.

To be fair, it's really not their fault; they were not taught to think for themselves, a practice that started in education decades ago (don't start me!) And of course, the Internet and social media encourage rapid consumption and disposal of all things. But it has a devastating effect on the current mentality, when the times require consistent focus and action.

Justin Sayne's avatar

“think for themselves”

What a RARE quality! And, as you say, largely absent. Hopefully, with each person that develops the insight to: a) think for themselves, and b) realize that there are OTHER people in the world, besides themselves, with equal rights and needs….we will, ultimately evolve into a more aware, compassionate, and……wise…..specie. Sadly, that’s a looooong way off. For now, all we can do is…..the BEST we can do…..and “pay it forward” for that day to come. Just my “2 cents”….

dagmar karppi's avatar

The world is watching. The year Trump was first elected the Finnish government installed "critical thinking" into all their schools. They saw what was coming. We have to learn the lesson.

Dr. Judith Schlesinger's avatar

Well-said, Justin. That's really all we can do, keep paying it forward.

But remember: it all, finally, adds up!!

donna woodward's avatar

A telling point, Paulette: that he did this when he did to take the wind out of our sails.
