Our malevolent, criminal out of control, disgusting president crossed the line of democratic governance into the land of dictatorial dictatorship. He's given up any pretense of respect for due process. It's especially ironic since due process alone kept him out of prison for all his crimes against America after his first term.
If we want to keep our democracy, we must not stop until our criminal, King/dictator is removed from office and sent to prison, either in the US or maybe El Salvador.
Precisely - only please not to El Salvador, let us not even joke about betraying the rule of law which is under direct threat.
The problem is deeper though, the GOP has turned into a fascist movement, as Krugman and others have been warning us for years - and so, someone else will emerge, if and when we get rid of Trump. A country where 3 individuals possess almost 50% of its wealth (Musk, Bezos, Zuckerberg) is not a truly democratic country - democracy is not just about the rule of law or the cross checks of power, it is also about a minimum of social justice - since this per se leads to instability. The problem is not only people voting for Trump - even the Democrats are betraying the solidarity and empathy as the basis of their political program. After all, it was Biden who enabled Netanyahu, a nazi and a Trump like criminal wanted by the ICC, to keep committing the genocide in Gaza with his cronies, instead of being in prison. It was Democrats under Clinton, who under the slogan of war on crime, destroyed social fabric in poor urban neighbourhoods, especially the black ones, leading to one of the worst incarceration rates in the world. This today was long in coming and unless the platforms such as this address the core of the problem, it will keep coming back. A student of history knows that only a crisis - be it political, social, economical - can lead to an insane, violent, silly, erratic person come to power - in sane times such people are at the margin of society.
What Was Really Said in Today's Showdown Between Presidents Trump and Bukele
Things Got Ugly In Trump's Fierce Fight to Have Garcia Returned
Setting: The Oval Office:
Participants: President Trump and President Bukele of San Salvador
Donald Trump: The courts in the U.S. told me that I have to ask you to return Garcia to the U.S. even though I don't want him back. But if you, Mr. President, don't want to send him back, I totally understand. I really understand. I truly understand, and, by the way, we transferred that $50 million into your country's treasury and a little something extra into your own offshore bank account.
President Bukele: Thank you Mr President. Now that I think about it, we'd like to keep Mr., what's his name, Garcia for at least, shall we say, the next 4 years, and of course we'll need to bill out the costs for his annual upkeep, say $10 million a year?
Donald Trump: No problem. That's chump change next to what I can siphon off from our universities unwilling to push out my propaganda. You know my hands are tied on this. It's not like I can say that we'll invade your country, like Panama or Greenland, if you don't agree to my request. I certainly wouldn't want to begin World War III by invading your flea-bitten country.
President Bukele: Totally understand Donald. Somebody could get hurt if you launch a Normandy style invasion on our beachheads, so I'm happy that we could resolve this peacefully. Rest assured that you can advise your courts that we have welcomed Mr. Garcia as a guest of our country and will treat him accordingly. My guess is that he'll love it here so much that he wouldn't want to go back anyway.
Donald Trump: Thank you Mr. President. I'll be sure to pass that along to our courts.
[Trump and Bukele exchange winks and smirks and toast each other for their mutually satisfactory resolution.]
And so concludes a hard-hitting, knock-down, drag-out heated struggle initiated by Donald Trump to relentlessly comply with the Court's order to have Garcia, whom his deputies mistakenly spirited off to San Salvador, returned to the U.S. Well, as Trump will tell us, he did all he could to bring Garcia back.
As much as we want Kilmar Abrego Garcia freed, don't forget there are 260 others jailed in El Salvador without due process.
The abduction of people kidnapped off the street and imprisoned in a foreign land means the end of rights guaranteed since 1215 (i.e., the Magna Carta) and the 4th and 14ih Amendments in our Constitution. The writ of habeas corpus, which allows individuals to challenge the legality of their detention, has a long history tied to the Magna Carta. The 4th Amendment protects against unreasonable searches and seizures, while the 14th Due Process Clause ensures a person of life, liberty, or property without due process of law. Trump has destroyed the Constitution and the Magna Carta in 80 days, with the help of cowed, cowardly
At least that would be something. They are hiding from their constituents, and refusing to go to town halls. Our Democratic legislators are not doing anything to them...as far as I am aware. But, they can't be allowed to continue their behavior without consequences.
They clearly fear Trump, but they need to start fearing voters as well. Not in a violent way, but just in terms of making them know they will not continue to get away with this. If they fear Trump, then they all need to get together and fight against him. Otherwise, they need to resign from their offices.
I heard Adam Kinzinger speak today, and he said this is not going away, and he will be thinking of what can be done. I believe we need Democrats and Republicans to join hands on this. We can't allow this to continue.
If we paid or will pay El Salvador $6 million why isn’t that a bargaining chip to get one/or all prisoners back? And if we are asking them to build more prisons? Something is very fishy !!
A fantastic summary of the latest Contrarian news from Jen’s musings of her comparison between the real meaning of Passover in showing strangers empathy the same way we should to immigrants in America to the Trump administration destroying our environment, economy and many other things.

Republicans in Congress and the SCOTUS.
It's always about the enablers. One person cannot do it. The helpers are the truly guilty.
Defying our Constitution and our laws!
Every week there is more and more and more. How do we get out from under this swill?
Hold all anti-Trump/Musk demonstrations in front of the local offices of Republican legislators!!!!!!
My congressman's office is 285 miles away!
