Thank you for your leadership in the chaos of all that is happening in the country today. It is unbelievable as the attacks on our democracy by the president continues. My favorite time is coffee with the Contrarians on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday at 9:13 AM. (Close to it). I loved listening during Passover. My matzo Brie tastes increased as I made it with all of you. With my family scattered throughout the world this year during Passover being able to celebrate with you and the Contrarians gave new meaning to this Jewish holiday. Shabbat Shalom. 💙

We the People at Work

The People, the protectors of Democracy, are out and about. What "people," out where, about what--and why? First, millions said "Hand Off"to Trump/Musk et al, then on the 19th via 50501" (50 protests, 5o states, 1 Movement) millions more protested the mess in WDC. Also on the 19th we celebrated the "the shot heard around the world at Lexington and Concord, starting the Revolution and our country. On the 22nd protectors of the environment cleaned up a different kind of mess on Earth Day.

As important as the participants in environmental mess cleanup and American history are, this post is dedicated to the named and unnamed protestors fighting the Trump/Musk Washington, DC, tyrannical mess. Or as Susan Grymes calls it: "Protectors" of democracy, and so shall I in this post.

Who are the Protectors of democracy on April 5, 19th, May 1st--or all the everydays in between and into the future?? We will never know the names of each individual marcher, sign holder (or just standing together in solidarity). But we do know by name some people, advocacy groups, judges and law firms, and other entities who have not been cowed, and have fought back publicly--sometimes under threat of death.. Some, such as Sen. Cory Booker, with his 25 hour righteous speech on ethics, morality, and American democracy, have become an inspiration. Here then, in no particular order of noteworthy (except the first three), are the names of many of the army of protectors of democracy--and remember Courage is Contagious:

(Of course, the list is imperfect, Additions are welcomed. Also re-posting is permitted and encouraged.

Trump & Kash Patel [ U.S.A. ] vs Wisconsin County Judge Dugan:

At 1:01 AM Eastern, MSNBC's diligent reporter RYAN REILLY reported a major escalation in efforts to catch & deport targeted suspects & attack any person who impedes ICE.

Kash Patel's FBI arrested a Milwaukee County Judge Dugan & indicted the Judge by claiming she "impeded" ICE efforts to arrest the suspect at the Courthouse where the suspect was appearing with his attorney on another matter.

Apparently, Kash Patel's overt actors did not like the Judge's lack of enthusiasm of the Wehrmacht's tactics nor her referral to the County Presiding Judge. A criminal complaint has been filed presumably in the Eastern U.S. District of Wisconsin

LET ME REPEAT: A criminal complaint has been filed against Judge Dugan. Furthermore, I note Kash Patel deleted his "X" post "alleging the Judge was "allowing the subject-- an illegal alien -- evade arrest". Nope, FALSE.

The suspect was in fact arrested after a foot race that the suspect lost. No word on the suspect's attorney and/or his ability to run.

Jen has said, many times, that profits from paid subscriptions help support pro-democracy litigation. Does The Contrarian contribute to State Democracy Defenders Fund or other organizations that help plantiffs and amici prepare and submit their filings? If not that, what does Jen mean?

I'm a paid Contrarian and am happy to support litigation. But I want somebody to tell me how I can do it MORE, through DIRECT donations to the organizations that do it AND donations that are restricted for that purpose. Democracy Docket, Elias Law Group and ACLU don't seem interested in my money!!!

There is no enforcement of the rulings against this barrage of tRumpsky assaults. What is the point? 3 and a half more years of this? Millions spent on infighting. Great way to eliminate waste. PINO! WHEN will those near the middle left or right wake up! Woke, actually. That's what it really means.

I start to wonder whether this platform is really fighting for democracy. The situation is catastrophic, cannot be more dramatic - the fascism is at the door of the US, if it has not already entered. The persecutions are escalating, now even a judge is being persecuted by the FBI - they are coming for you and me. And yet, there has never been enough outcry here, far from that. It seems to me more ad more that people leading this have no experience with fascism, have not been studying it seriously, are never bringing up experiences of other countries that had to go through such a tragedy. For example, Hungary in recent years went through a very similar process now taking place here - under the pretext of defending white Christians as a threatened social group. This is a text book example of how fascism operates, by proclaiming that whites are endangered social group. It is imperative that we study that and other examples to know how to fight back.

The time is dangerously running out, every day they take away more and more liberties and human rights - unless one faces the gravity of it, tomorrow will be late. This is not the time to talk about the pets of the week - the claims that this is done for the sake of one mental's health is simply an excuse to ignore the drama. The US is not immune to fascism, and it is dangerously close to turning into autocracy - after all, the man who organised the insurrection and pardoned the criminals that violently stormed the Capitol has become the president. Moreover, the fascist movement called the GOP has now taken over all public institutions - this is how fascism in Italy and nazism in Germany started, and we know how that ended. Let us please accept the fact that there is a political cancer spreading out in the US - it should have been dealt with years ago, but better late than never.

I am no longer getting the Coffee with the contrarian’s emails. I’m wondering what I can do to get that back. I am a paid subscriber.

Norm, legal question that I would love to hear answered at a morning coffee. There are two themes that emerge from multiple federal and supreme court rulings- overreach of executive power and non-compliance. Can all these rulings be bundled and brought before the supreme court to make clear there is no king and he must comply- i.e. civil servants fired and ordered reinstated were not; immigrants in cecot without due process- yet ordered to do that; Kilmar and other ordered to be returned; DOGE not complying with rulings. Help me understand the process. Under normal processes- this would be done via impeachment, which is not on option with non-independence of GOP.
