I've been thinking about why just about everybody, including me, is gushing about Dolly Parton. It actually makes perfect sense. In a world where empathy is derided and treated as weakness, she never ceased to demonstrate empathy. There were no excluded groups. She didn't make negative noise. She was almost literally a "breath of fresh air" right up to the end of her life. This is incredibly rare and so desperately needed.
Protection of this election is not only a matter for attorneys. Gil Duran has just published a book: The Nerd Reich -- which, with more than ample evidence, draws a parallel between many of the excessively wealthy tech bros and the desire to replace democracy with an autocracy of themselves. You should expect John Roberts to continue to make partisan decisions, even with lawsuits following the election. Recall that the Supreme Court under Roberts former boss at the DOJ and mentor decided to stop the recount in Florida giving Bush the presidency by 537 votes. The only remedy is for there to be a rate of Democratic registration and turnout comparable to Lyndon Johnson's defeat of Barry Goldwater in 1964. It is up to us.
She had the rare ability to be the glue we needed, and now need more than ever. R.I.P. (and I don't even care for country music, the "school of self-sorrows" as my husband used to call it). I hope everyone will consider a donation, however small, to her Imagination Library.
Dolly, you've earned your rest wrapped in soft cotton and no more heavy rhinestones!

There's always the Overton defenestration.
Dolly could have been a billionaire but she gave her money away. We need more 1%ers like her! May she rest in peace.

Throw Heidi Overton out the window before slamming it shut.
