Featuring Justin Wolfers & Jen Rubin; Garry Kasparov; Brian O'Neill; "Offsides with Pablo Torre" & Jen Rubin; Dan Koh; April Ryan & Barbara Lee; The Democracy Movement; and "Talking Feds"
The orange felon and his Nazi henchwomen (Noem)/men (Homan) simply cannot take all the losses they've incurred in the Kilmar Abrego Garcia case. Now they are on the worst revenge trip of all by trying to deport him to Uganda. To be clear, he has done absolutely NOTHING wrong, but they insist on being cruel and inhuman. In the end, the fucking McConnell/Roberts court will likely give the orange felon another win, just because they can.
Most likely I will not be alive by the time Karma bites these assholes in the ass, but I sure hope it does with a vengeance when these totally unlawful regime/congress and "highest judiciary" in the land will get their comeuppance.
Please excuse all my French, I don't usually cuss very much, but the current situation in this country has me madder than a nest of hornets.
Professor Wolfers speaks with a clear eye; he makes economic principles easy to understand, often with a dose of wit. Thanks for including him as one of your subject matter experts.
The gerrymander fight is on. There is a new playbook. The old rules have been struck down by the Supreme Court. We need to change the gears here as fast as possible for deadly preemptive strikes. Newsom has moved out on this already. Who is next? Hochul. Where are you? Ptitzker. What are you doing?
Have you read "The umpire who picked a side: John Roberts and the death of rule of law in America" from the 21 August GUARDIAN by Ed Pilkington? Very Scary stuff! My wife and I notice almost no real concern on Substacks we follow about the 6 criminal Maga judges who are who are doing their best to destroy the rule of law, the Constitution, and the country we love. It appears Roberts and his followers all love Trump, the HERITAGE FOUNDATION, and 2025 Plan. Walt and Kris Wogee "Very Concerned!"
Jen, I am so grateful for your breadth of knowledge and your well-written posts. And of course, the delightful Pets of the Week. (I have no doubt they'd vote appropriately, given the chance.)
Folks, if you are able to donate, please look at OATH, a fantastic organization that makes data-driven recommendations to help us donate effectively. https://app.oath.vote/
Donating money willy-nilly – touched by a candidate’s message or backstory – is usually a waste of money. Targeted donations are much more effective. Some elections are more consequential than others. And some candidates make better use of your donations – don’t bother with those who are under-funded or over-funded. And some of the most important elections are for offices we almost never hear about.
From OATH’s latest email: “Trump has announced a new line of attack on mail-in voting and vote counting procedures. But local officials, not the federal government, decide how elections are run. Oath has partnered with the State and Local Elections Alliance to identify the precise counties and jurisdictions where election results are most likely to be targeted by Republicans so we can proactively secure the certification process. These are high impact donations because the campaigns are very inexpensive and often overlooked”
And if you donate thru OATH, the candidates don’t receive your contact information - so you will NOT be deluged with requests for more money. OATH has changed how I support candidates; and in the year I’ve been following them, I haven’t gotten ONE follow-up request for money. Not one.
A nice benefit of this method is you can immediately delete any texts or emails you get from random candidates. A big time saver!
I'm using this opportunity to repost Gov. Pritzker's speech. I think/hope all at the Contrarian approve.

It was a great speech. Much appreciated.
Thanks for sharing.
The hypocrisy of drump is as obvious as all the fake-golden bling-bling hanging on the wall of 'his' oval office.
🔥 Dan Rather is correct — Donald Trump has been bending America’s entire culture to his will.
And it’s a will that pines for a return to the good ole’ days of slavery & only white men Voting in US elections. 👇

I’ve been improving my French lately too. Getting pretty fluent. The new universal language of solidarity.
If ever a good swear warranted, it would be now. Let her rip!

The interview with Justin Wolfers was outstanding. He makes complicated things understandable. Well done
