A brief demonstration of We, the People’s, power of the purse could persuade them to quit supporting HRH and the politicians who enable him.
We quit spending, except on essentials, businesses lose money, stock market goes down, Greedy Bastards pay attention to our demands.
Greedy Bastards own most of the politicians of both major parties. GBs start losing money, tell politicians to change course and do what We, the People want.
We are running out of peaceful options. The legislature and Supreme Court are controlled by HRH. He controls the executive branch, including the Military, Justice Department, FBI, ICE, the IRS. He controls all levers of power.
We, the people, still have the power of the purse. No one can control our spending, or lack of spending. When all else fails we can go on a spending strike until the business community stops supporting HRH and the politicians who enable him.
Economic warfare is the only thing the oligarchs, the business community will understand and act on. Call it a Surreptitious General Strike (Quiet Quitting). Go to work, do as little as possible. Stop spending money except on essentials. Quit feeding the corporate beast that supports the HRH.
Stop participating. Nearly 70% of the U.S. economy is driven by consumer spending. All of us. Hobble the economy and the stock market. Mahatma Gandhi drove the British from India by peaceful civil disobedience. We can stop the fascist takeover in the same way.
We can keep rehashing past and present atrocities until our access to the internet is taken away by the regime, or we can DO something!
I have now finally given up that the Contrarian will raise its voice against the greatest genocide in modern history, the total destruction of Gaza. It is clear that even the total exterminating of Palestinians will not touch this platform which shows total lack of solidarity with the countless victims, and empathy whatsoever for their suffering. As the US slowly but surely becomes the only country on the planet that does not recognise Palestine state and Americans - modulo some brave and isolated individuals - only people that willingly support and enable the eradication of people and their land, the rest of the world watches in horror - once again - this great country siding with or directly perpetuating the extermination of native people. I for one cannot but recall millions killed in Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Afghanistan, Iraq, you name it. I cannot but recall the US refusing to save Jews during the Holocaust by denying them visa and thus indirectly collaborating with the nazi regime. I cannot but recall the US waiting for months to step in, until the moment when it became clear that the Soviet Union will enter Germany on its own, without allies, at the end of the WW2. I make a bold prediction here - and offer a bet to any member of this platform pretending to care for democracy: Trump and his cronies will beat the Contrarians in turning against the nazi government of Israel. Any takers?
Even if the president announced tomorrow a total cessation of support for Israell and support Gaza instead, we cannot believe a word he says. He wants access to Gaza to make untold billions from developing it and will never turn against Israel so long as it is his path to the beaches of Gaza. But you know this.
No, The Contrarian does not speak forcefully enough, unambiguously enough, about Israel's crimes against Palestinians. They and we are so focused on our lunatic in the Oval Office that we ignore Gaza. (Everyone but Ralph Nader seems to forget Gaza.) Your heartfelt lament is on the mark. Father, forgive us.
Thank you for appreciating my comment. But you see, these are all words - not caring for the extermination of people and their land, does not happen because of this or that. Not caring is not caring, it is the greatest, most tragic, human defect, the lack of solidarity and empathy. This is why 6 million Jews were killed, and this why our planet may perish. I have people around me too who love to cite the poem: first they came for ... - but they only apply it to the Holocaust and people who then let it happen, not to Palestine and us today. We are all Gaza, all of us - and if we let it go on, it will come back to us, it is in the nature of things. Think what happened to Germany, it was one of the greatest victims of their collective madness.
