At Thanksgiving, even in a tough year, there's much to be grateful for. Here, some of our favorite contributors share the things for which they're thankful.
I am thankful for all the great writers at The Contrarian and all the litigation Norm does to keep this president in check. For Jen, April and the newest Contrarian Tim Dickinson and their insightful interviews and writing. This is what REAL journalism looks like.
As Donald Trump seeks to stamp out expertise due to his own gargantuan incompetence, we should all recognize our own triumphs. I'm thankful for my difficult business as a freelance editor, which has allowed me to have dogs and horses in my life. Some sacrifices are worth making, and I'm thankful for my ability to persevere in the face of adversity, to realize lifelong dreams.
This has translated into my unwavering commitment to preserve our democracy as well. It has been a very tough and dark time. Thanks to you, too, friends, for your support this year!
I am grateful for each and every person (worldwide) who has found the courage and the will to stand up for decency, for integrity, for the Common Good. My heart overflows with appreciation and I know how hard it is for some of these people to do this. I stand with you in spirit and in witness to your courage.
I am so very thankful for this Contrarian community! Honestly I don’t know how I would have survived since January without your wisdom, education and devotion to saving our constitution! And your humor! I’m extremely grateful!
Wishing everyone a Blessed and Happy Thanksgiving!
I’m thankful to have been able to move back to London and join my only child at an enormous expense. Being Hispanic in the US proved to be dangerous for me. This move was going to happen anyway but delayed due to husband illness. I’m here now, happy to be back to a place that was home for 25 plus years. Thankful to have found Substack and specially The Contrarian. This community brings hope for a time that seems very scary. Thank you all for your wonderful work and courage.
I’m grateful for that wild but noble impulse you Contrarians had to launch this phenomenal daily dose of truth, inspiration and humor. Plus the occasional recipe.
I came upon a good word yesterday, Idiocracy. The definition of Idiocracy is "A government ruled by the least qualified".
As Contrarian articles have pointed out over and over again, "unqualified" seems to be the main qualification in the Trump administration, along with kneeling down and kissing the ring.
Thank you patriotic Contrarians! Keep up the patriotic good work!
I am thankful for contrarians. All family but my nephew have lost their minds. Monsters all of them. What has happened to their minds? And frankly they aren’t that bad off. How can they declare being overtaken by less fortunate migrants? My family is disgusting. I hate them all. Racist evangelical nationalist white fucking christians certainly destined for hell which those assholes have put all the rest of us in. It isn’t hot enough for them.
Don’t travel at t’day. Only amateurs do that. I will be with you in spirit and my bite of pumpkin pie! See you on line…go democracy. No kings. I love your moniker.
I don't go anywhere either! We spend the holiday with our horses and dogs. Heh heh, thanks for the compliment; canvassing door-to-door for Greenpeace was one of the most interesting jobs I've ever had. Those were the days, when even Republicans would talk to me about the environment. I wouldn't knock on a door now if you paid me. Too much like Mystery Date :)
I am grateful for people like you. I’m sure we will have another chance to put our imprimatur somewhere before we head to the next realm. Perhaps that is where we will meet and enjoy a travel-less Thanksgiving. All the young people slogging through the headaches don’t know what it is like to go down the road with the kids to one’s parent’s place for a holiday. You still had the same zip code instead of one you had to look up. Hope your next happy day is a warm one on the front porch with a big ol’ glass of iced tea waving to all the neighbors on their way home from church (can you tell I am from down south?).
Ha! I have a long-distance friend I've never met in New Orleans who told me all about waving to neighbors from the front porch. I like your idea of a next-plane Thanksgiving, friend. I'll catch up with you again soon, and thank you so much for being forthcoming. It's lonely out here these days.
What a heartwarming, soul-touching, thought-provoking inclusion to The Contrarian!! I loved looking through the window of words, into each heart, as each Contrarian lent their genius to considering reasons for being grateful! I think what I love most about the Contrarians and Contrarian supporters, is the deep genuineness and conviction of everyone. This is a groundbreaking form of journalism where, through webcasts, as well as written articles, Norm and Jen, and so many others, literally give your 'all' to what you do; and in sharing your personhood, your humanity, it gives me, gives us all, the opportunity to know better -- some absolutely remarkable people who are making a profound difference at a crucial time, helping to preserve honesty, facts, expertise, and the democratic spirit. These are very much alive and well here!!
I’m too am so grateful for The Contrarians and other legal oriented independent media. 🙏🏼I feel like we’re friends!
For the other 7+ million No Kings peaceful protesters!🪧
For reminders to not let the evil ones take our joy. For living in nature 🌲🌲🗻 in the mountains of Oregon, for health, for relative peace at the moment, creativity, and brave, courageous people around the world.
I am grateful for family, pets and a career spreading joy involving both music and dance. My daily Coffee with the Contrarians with its humor and wit pleases me no end, as well as the Featured Pets. Thank you for your superb efforts to keep us all informed.
I'm thankful for The Contrarian keeping us informed and also inspired to collectively resist Trump's attempt of an authoritarian takeover of our country. I hope everyone has a nice Thanksgiving. May Trump have a lousy holiday.
I'm thankful for so many like-minded people who help fight against this regime. I'm thankful to have my health, this 10th anniversary of my oncology surgery. (I'm forever thankful for the surgeons, nurses, and that unknown pathologist.) 10 years of eating real food for Thanksgiving instead of hospital-ish. I'm thankful for enough to eat/clothes, and a roof over my head.

Happy gobble - gobble!
I second the gratitudes posted by Mimi Rocah and Jared Bernstein.

Come on in, hon. Family here :)

Fellow Oregonian... how I love Mt. Hood and Timberline Lodge, where eternity and history reside.
Grateful for every one of the Contrarian pets!
