I do not understand. This is the third or fourth announcement of a zoom call to discuss our protests that I have received in the past couple of days. They are all scheduled to take place at the same time that we're supposed to be out on the streets! Whose boneheaded idea was that? So what if it's recorded to watch later. Why not schedule it at a time that doesn't conflict with the actual protests?

I will not be watching any of these zoom events. I will be out on the street, hopefully with thousands of others, fighting to stop this administration's efforts to destroy our democracy. Not chatting about it over a cup of coffee.

I'm confused about this too. I get that there are a lot of different organizations involved in these mass events and that's great, but feels like it needs more coordination. Which is not an easy task. Here in Philly there were 2 different protests planned within about a mile of each other downtown. One got cancelled but it never got taken down from the web, causing confusion. And now all these zoom invitations at the same time? Anyhow, I'm just venting. It's all good. Have a great day everyone and make good trouble!

If they waited till the west coast protests were done, it would be the middle of the night back east. We can watch afterward.

Here's an email I just sent to Ezra Levin, cofounder of Indivisible, about some ideas I had last night following my participation in the Golden, Colo., Good Trouble protest. July 18, 2025

Dear Ezra Levin,

After participating in the Good Trouble protest in Golden, Colorado, yesterday, these thoughts occurred to me last night.

1) There should be one BIG nationwide protest involving all groups possible every two months on a particular Saturday of the month. (Say it’s the second Saturday; then it should always be the second Saturday.) It would be on the scale of the Hands Off protest on April 5 or the No Kings protest on June 14. The idea is that if there were regularly scheduled big protests, then all protesters would know when the next big protest was and when the one after that was, etc. When I asked protesters yesterday when the next big protest would be, none knew for sure.

2) There should be a goal in terms of total participation with each big protest. For instance, it might be a 50 percent increase over the previous big protest. Since there were 5 million at the June 14 No Kings protest, then it might be 7.5 million at the next big protest (say Aug.9).

3) There should be as many groups included in these big protests as possible. If Indivisible wants to have its own little protests on something or other on some other dates, then more power to it, but the big protests should include as wide an umbrella as possible—that means everyone who wants to preserve a constitutional democracy in the U.S. That means Republicans against Trump, independents, Democrats, businessmen, labor unions, veterans, peace activists, church leaders (the pope would be great), universities, and so on. It should be clear in every pronouncement that this is not about political party, left or right, or conservative or liberal. It’s about a constitutional democracy versus an autocracy.

4) There could be one recurring name for these big protests. It could be No Kings, which gets right to the point and involves only seven letters. You could number them, like movie sequels, No Kings1, NoKings2, etc. There is already a #NoKings, which was used for June 14, and perhaps it could be used on a wider basis for all purposes regarding a no-autocracy platform.

5) Measuring each No Kings protest would show how the movement is growing over time and provide an apples-to-apples comparison. This could be used to convince Trump and Republican legislators that this movement is growing. Right now the protests seem a little haphazard.

6) There should be some consideration given to creating a committee for the overall umbrella organization for the big protests. There could be a representative from each big organization (such as Indivisible or 50501) on the committee. This committee would make it clear that it is representative of a much broader coalition than the Democratic Party alone.  I hope this makes sense. Congratulations on all the hard work and successes so far.

All the best.
