Fantastic interview; Eugene Fidell is a wise and good man.

"You don't machine-gun everybody on deck."

THAT'S IT. Fuckin' A.

This is one of the most illuminating conversations about the inter-workings of military, civil, and federal law. Mr. Fidell is a treasure trove of knowledge based on experience.

Excellent interview. Thanks

Possibly the best source I've seen on any topic. Please bring Mr. Fidell back... I'm guessing we'll need him again.

But what about prosecution by the next administration? And trump wont be in office to pardon?

Very interesting and informative interview. Thank you!!

The fact we aren’t technically in war gives me discomfort that our military is doing something that goes against the military rule books. Yikes 😱

That Congress has been excised from the entire discussion of sanctioning war means we have zero say in America conducting a war in the first place--by the book or not. What the hell is wrong with all of those powerful senators and reps? Seems their power is just in their perks.

Michelle Jordan's avatar

Absolutely! Congress should be doing their duty and checking the executive branch and what kind of orders are being issued to the military.

KnockKnockGreenpeace's avatar

More than that, though, Michelle, they should do their duty to US, their constituents, the citizens of the United States in whose name these murders are being committed. What has Congress done for us lately?

The trail of “catch 22” eviscerations of rule of law in this military scenario holds true in our entire system. When thousands of ICE thugs declare “irregularities” in voting in blue cities, and confiscate ballots, who will charge them? Bondi?

When Stalin was warned against angering the Pope, he scoffed, “How many divisions does the Pope have?”

I wish he could ask the questions at the hearings.

I have loved this interview so much. Thank you Mr. Fidell and Jen

Hegseth should be impeached/removed and charged with war crimes. If we had a functioning Department of Justice, this would have happened.

Pete Gorton's avatar

If you *read* the article (hint!) it is NOT a war crime, as the US is NOT at war. There are other options, brilliantly described in this piece.

This was so enlightening: what a knowledgeable and thoughtful person is Mr. Fidell. I would love to hear from him regularly as the misuse and use of our military unfolds.

Super interesting interview! Factual, educational, and sobering. Talk to him again!

i wonder whether Prof,, Fuddell thinks Adm. Brady told the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth when he spoke behind closed doors and not under oath? Or did he couch his words in language that would avoide blaming Hegseth?

Thiw whole operation is a failed fiasco, just as the war on drugs and the war on terror are failed fiascos.
