So much for "no forever wars," "affordability," and public health. I'm hunkering down in my smart state of Oregon, where I can get the latest vaccines, buy local produce, and watch the national guard leave with tails tucked. This country no longer has our backs. Get to a blue state if y'all can, if you want to survive.
I'm doing the same thing in deep blue Vermont. And big bonus - I'm just 40 miles from the Canadian border so if things get really insane, I'm outta here.
A Canadian immigration attorney told me that it is very unlikely that I would be able to obtain permanent residency unless I was a political refugee. I responded that I may call her back.
Yeah, the problem with many countries is you need to be very very comfortable financially to get in the door. But the refugee thing could yet get us over the line.
I am so sorry I left VA 10 years ago. At least they are making progress. NC is no longer a democracy and now I'm too old & poor to move again or I would go straight back.
The author is missing the point. The administration's object is not a new approach to governance. It is to break government to the point where Americans will demand an authoritarian "savior." Every time they engineer failure, their goal moves closer.
Exactly my thought. "Must" tell them they're fired?? Trump is terminally resistant to any "musts" that don't come from himself; and who among his advisors is going to tell him anything he doesn't like and expect to be listened to? Breaking the government and bringing all of us to heel will be the ultimate proof of his power and greatness.
These folks would be dragging Trump down, sure, if he wasn't already the biggest bottom feeder ever elected (by a very small margin) to the Presidency. They ALL need to go, every last one. They are all incompetent, cosplayers including Donnie Two Scoops. And when they go, they need to go to jail, not home to their palatial estates. Let them eat cake, in prison.
Dear Contrarian, please have a look at the Contrarian chat and consider upholding Substack content guidelines so that we can all engage in discourse. Right now, the proliferation of posts advertising people's outside blog pages has taken over and driven away the subscribers who just want to discuss the news or share some personal insights and jokes.
Yes, I have reported every instance of this issue. No, I have seen no action to preserve the chat that we subscribers pay for. I'm just here for the discourse!
I've heard that from other people. We thought the Contrarian chat would be a great place to exchange ideas with smart and committed types, but instead we got a bunch of self-absorbed freeloaders pushing their derivative Substack columns. I'm already full up on the stellar writing and insights from the Contrarian team; I don't have time for the amateurs.
I haven't seen much of any of what you speak of happening. There is some site referencing, but what's wrong with that? Link to it and read it or not. That's a choice.
Of course there were Four Horsemen - throw in Noem or Stephen Miller or Russell Vought. Any one of therm could well make a good member of the foursome.
Let's face the basic fact here. Don the Con has never himself graduated beyond the apprentice level at anything he has ever tried. He has been saved time and again by wealthy domestic and foreign grifters who see in him a useful fool whom they can woo and then manipulate. It's time for all of us who care about our nation and it's citizens to say to him and his entire fiasco circus, "You're FIRED!"
"If Trump wishes to salvage the remaining three years of his final term"
Mr Nesbit, I appreciate your reporting but I can safely say that I know not one person who wants the dementing elected convicted felon to make it to the end of this term..... and that includes even that vance joke.
I say the drump fellow should fire himself instead.
Jeff leaves out too many names that ought to face the firing squad (no pun intended). The head of the Department of Justice and that of Homeland (In)security must also go, and a Transportation Secretary who does pull-ups at Washington National Airport instead of tending to our crumbling infrastructiure. Incompetence should not be rewarded by an office and salary.
Extremely well-written, eloquent depiction of our current state of affairs! I must say, though, when I scanned the headline, and first read, "It's Time for Trump's Magic Words: You're Fired!" there was only one person I thought of!! ... the one who gave us a grand new vision of the wondrous possibilities that can arise in an authoritarian-regime future, enabling such things as "vindictive prosecutions"; massive fraud and corruption; assault by a swarm of masked, armed ICE agents; concentration camps/detention camps, sending people on planes, against their will, to live in some other country, having been given no due process, no phone call; conducting a war against the very country that elected him to preside over it, as well as another country that provoked his ire because immigrants from there are managing to make their way here, hoping for a chance at life without violence; trashing the genius of our Founding Fathers, firing expert civil servants, destroying the glue holding steadfast, dedicated leadership in place between administrations; giving a cold shoulder to friends and allies generations' long, in order to align ourselves with corrupt, malignant dictator regimes...I could go on. In short, it is our current "head" that this title could also refer to, in what would be poetic justice if also applied to him.
You forgot Pam Bondi, Kristi Noem and many others. Actually, come to think of it, his entire cabinet needs to be fired.
I agree, these women are dangerous!

Exactly! I am so happy to live in a blue state. Blue states still believe in the constitution and the rule of law.

Canada doesn’t care how much money I have.
We're doing pretty well in Illinois, though the State Police are getting too chummy with the thugs from Homeland (In)security.

Very true. Maybe we should all get together and say that he wouldn't dare fire them. (Nudge, nudge, wink, wink, say no more.)
A sad but true possibility.
It’s time for our magic words: We the people of the United States of America do declare you impeached First Felon 47.
As in baseball, three strikes and you're out, would it be too much of a dream to have the same rule apply to impeachments? Congress, get busy.
Trump is ultimately responsible. The problem is he doesn't care a hoot about 99% of us.
100% of us dear

My big list of unqualified amoral candidates for firing starts with Bondi. But Hegseth, Patel, Noem, Vance, and Homan are jostling to be next up.
Don't forget the pupeteers Russel Vought and Stephen Miller.
My thinking on Stephen Miller is that he join The Orange Guy in prison. General population. El Salvador.

Between them and the bots offering to give me their Macbook Air, I've given up!

America, she is but a shadow of her former self...taken down by corporations and stupid voters

I'm surprised you left of Noem as the 4th horseman. And of course all the other terrible, unqualified cabinet secretaries and senior officials.
Can the Dear Leader fire himself? Or simply self-destruct? That would be ok too.
