Adelita Grijalva was elected to Congress last night and as soon as she is sworn will sign the resolution petition on Trumepstein, which will force a full House vote.
Dr Cassidy Dr Marshall Dr Borasso and Dr Paul are FAR more responsible than anyone for the confirmation of a established eccentric whose brain was eaten by a worm and who swims in sewage to be responsible for the health and wellbeing of 330 million Americans rather than annoy one psychopath.
I seems the only thing Republicans can be counted on these days is total absequiuous surrender to Donald Trump's whims. They can only be counted on to knee on presidential order.
All the more reason to keep/ put Democratic physicians into office. Examples - Rep. Kim Schrier, WA, Yadira Caraveo, CO (lost last election for Congress, but running again),
Annie Andrews, SC, running for Senate. All pediatricians who support science and the value of immunizations.
I can tell you how he got reelected, sexism and racism. Our country has a long standing history of this and those who sat out the election and those who voted for the felon practiced both.
This book was written by a man raised Catholic by a former nun and a former priest, and much of it is actual Biblical verses that counteract racism, sexism, bashing immigrants, etc. Fugelsang's point is that many so-called Christians have no idea what's really IN the Bible and are just using superficial talking points to fuel their hatred.
He actually gives concrete ideas about how to talk to these so-called Christians and maybe open their minds a bit.
They seem to be for people who call themselves Christians but do not pay any attention to what Jesus taught. As I understand it, a lot of those churches are based on the Old Testament, not the new, and the Old Testament is NOT the basis for Christianity.
You are correct. The first 5 books of the OT are what constitute the Torah. Given the bigotry so many people have against Jews, it might be fun to tell them that they are really Jews, just to see what happens. Then again, I'm not looking for that kind of fun, given that I have no wish to incite a war.
No reason to. And Fugelsgang makes their origin very clear, but gently and with actual Biblical citations. Did I mention he's also a comedian, so that there are funny moments scattered throughout?
Sorry, I can’t agree with that. Racism, misogyny, homophobia, etc. have been a part of Christianity for a long, long time. It may not be what Christ taught or envisioned, but it’s what it became early on.
Yes but hard to change that, I think the inflation spike was the biggest factor in tipping the election. It's discouraging when your wages go up but are eaten by inflation and Biden/Harris got the blame exacerbated by Republican propaganda.
Day after day, we keep telling ourselves "America isn't like this" while confirming to the world that, as many around the world already suspect or believe, America is exactly like this.
Trump did not put himself into office. And those who voted for him knew exactly what he was. And exactly what he is. And rejected a sane, rational alternative -- who happened to have the disqualifying features (in America) of being a Black female.
The truly worrying part is that even after Trump is gone his supporters will still be with us.
This is who we are, apathy from voters, accepting of what happens as long as we are doing ok has pushed this scenario. I hope I’m wrong but I doubt that we will ever recover from this. All empires crumble, almost always from within.
The most significant takeaway of his UN speech ws the look of stunned horror on the faces of the delegates as they listened to his tone-deaf performance. He is the very best advertisement for the thing he most deplores: reason, education, and restraint.
And his mouth-breathing MAGA crowd are the object lesson for why the concept of White American 'Christians' are the farthest thing from the "master race" they believe themselves to be.
They need to know for sure they are on their own as they defend their countries. There has been disbelief about that. Not surprising, as this guy is so far beyond what anybody but novelists and screenwriters imagined. But they have to figure out how to do it all without thinking that maybe, maybe they can manipulate him.
I don't kn ow about the NY Times: Today they headlined Trups UN speech as ...."rambling". I believe a leader of another nation described it as "insane",
correction: the 'insane" idea was best stated as follows,, and used by Heather Cox. R. today.
""A senior foreign diplomat posted at the U.N. texts me,” Tharoor wrote, “‘This man is stark, raving mad. Do Americans not see how embarrassing this is?
We do, but his lackey-toady cabinet, who are chareged with invoking the 25th Amendment will not do it. House Democrats need to mount an impeachment proceeding. Even if it goes nowhere with the Republican majority in place, it will at least demonstrate a level of resistance.
Full correction: The House intitates impeachement proceedings and passes it to the Senate to CONVICT and REMOVE. Mitch McConnell and his GOP Senators refused to do this.
The president of Portugal called him a Russian asset. And yes, about a third of us do think he is either stark raving mad, a traitor, or both. You can tell by reading the comments here.
The Trump press office is desperately trying to get people to focus on the stopped elevator and broken teleprompter so that they will ignore the insanity of the speech. Of course, a member of Trump's entourage inadvertently stopped the escalator, and Trump's people were in charge of the teleprompter. However, never let truth get in the way of a good cover-up.
I had to wonder if MAGA sorts who happened to watch the UN speech were cheering for “their” guy as he (in their view) “owned the libs” on a grand, global scale? That’s all they seem to care about, really. Their homes may be washed away in floods from super-storms caused by climate change, but as long as Dear Leader is out there insulting the world on their behalf, they’re okay with it. It comforts them to know that such a rich man is as angry and full of grievances as they are—and as unwilling to accept personal responsibility for the negative consequences of his actions as they are. This is what we have now: A corrupt convict publicly parading his hatred, ignorance, and racism on the world’s biggest platforms—backed by almost half the country. How far this mighty country has fallen in such a short time.
I think a lot of these people see a lot of the idiocy and either ignore it or believe the Fox propaganda spin since it reinforces their core beliefs that Trump is their savior.
Also, they will never vote for a Democrat and at the same time I will never vote for a Republican, but at least I believe my conviction is based on principles and fact.
I don't think we've fallen so much as the system of government invented 250 years ago has allowed this to happen. We got along for so many years by good men and women doing the right thing, but there's nothing in our system to prevent minority rule and corrupt people from taking over the government under the right circumstances which finally arrived.
tRump went to the UN and gave his stump speech. He did that because it is all he can do. His previous lack of basic intellectual capacity is now a progressing dementia which is making his ability to read a room or alter his behavior based on circumstances a sorry joke. The dementia is there for everyone to see - even non-physicians. It is making his diaper load of astonishing personality disorders just that much worse. At this point, he is a terrible toddler with The Nuclear Codes. And - he has the craven rethuglicans cowed. But they are getting everything in their Project 2025, so they will not rein him in until it is too late.
On Heather Cox Richardson's post -- devoted exclusively to that UN performance -- commenters were wondering why delegates didn't just get up and walk out. My guess is they were probably just too stunned to do so. There is something in human nature about watching a slow-moving train wreck as it happens. It must have been incredulous to have watched while this deranged, demented, incoherent, incontinent, ignorant, sociopathic lunatic insulted the Mayor of London, etc.
Perhaps there are a few MAGAzoids left who thought the speech was wonderful. The entire planet -- regardless of ideology -- would disagree. A remarkable, embarrassing, humiliating achievement for the United States.
UN delegates, like other diplomatic personnel, are steeped in "protocol", which frowns upon such things as walking out on a General Assembly speech, no matter how appalling.
This vacuous man will pull us to an even darker place if he’s not stopped - predominantly that must come from within the US but watching his cringingly awful UN address as a UK citizen, other leaders must find appropriate ways to call him out too.
I don't know how anyone takes the US seriously any more. Why would they trust us? Who would follow us with this guy in charge? We're a drunk country careening all over with no predictability or logical policy. Even if they feared tarrifs or some retribution, it's completey arbitrary it seems depending on his mood or whoever has his ear that day.
This man is educated far beyond his intelligence. He thinks!! A complete idiot. Full of buffoonery. Should be in a parade with Ronald MacDonald waving to a crowd of MAGA supporters from his clown car. With his medical knowledge I would not want him grooming my horse. Goes to the UN and vomits for an hour on the world leaders. I believe they all looked at him and felt sorry for him. His family should set up an intervention and get him some help, but then again they may all be plumbs from the same tree. He used the death of one of his vile , vindictive supporters Charlie Kirk and exploited his early demise with a White Supremacist , Christian Nationalist hate rally. He spends his morning with Stephen Miller dining on hate and vengeance . My God is this fellow the president of the most disrespected nations of the world or an escaped Laura Loomertic. "What a shame , to take one of the leaders of the free world and turn it into a clown show in just under nine months. I love my southern neighbor and pray and hope it will arise from the ashes one day and become the most respected and leader of the free world again. God Speed.
Reading about drumpf's speech to the UN made me feel utterly diminished as an American citizen. What must other nations think of us when we (a tiny, slim majority of us) re-elected this convicted criminal to the highest office in the land, with the heavy stamp of approval of his crimes by the supposedly supreme judicial court of the U.S.? In the meantime, in my presumably blue neighborhood in Massachusetts, our lawn signs critical of drumpf have been stolen and vandalized regularly, and the latest was a filthy old couch being dumped on top of a sign saying, Trump for Prison.
Jen, you realize, I am sure, that much of what the orange narcissist-felon utters is fed to his teleprompter by those yes-people surrounding him, reflecting his bizarre, unhinged delusions.
His seriously incontinent speeches, with incoherence and mispronunciation endemic to these strange performances, are--I must be candid--a disgrace to the nation.
My prediction, perhaps wishful thinking: he and his cult/regime gang will continue to overreach until they achieve a breaking point. That point will come when the other two Branches, instead of bending the knee, kissing the ring, and rubber-stamping every bizarre whim, will come to their senses and re-establish their Constitutional rights and duties.
Until then, we continue into grave national and international danger.
The only explanation for Trump's reelection that I've found satisfying is Carlo M. Cipolla's essay, The Five Basic Laws of Human Stupidity. A stupid person is defined as one that causes losses to a person or group of persons without incurring gains for themselves (or even incurring losses). We can all think of specific groups of MAGA supporters that are experiencing the losses that have been brought on by their choice to vote for him or someone other than Kamala Harris.
The frightening thing is that as President of the United States, Donald J Trump is in a position to make your life a living hell. And he loves it. He has admitted that he hates half the country, and he will sacrifice the half that he doesn’t hate to junk medical science and economic ruin.
The president should not be in a position to make anyone’s life a living hell, except those in his immediate circle. But due to compliant courts and a prostrate Congress, here we are.
Agreed. We could have lived through 4 years of this horrible man. We are fighting for our lives and democracy because of Rs in Congress, the dismantling of federal government agencies meant to safeguard our health and wellbeing, heinous corporate overlords, capitulation of institutions in media, academia and law, and a bought Supreme Court. (Could add to this list.) Those should have been protection enough. But those protectors are now part of the enemy force or collaborators.
Whoever he thinks he's subjecting to his damaging and hateful policies, the truth is it won't be just half the country. His cruel policies are liable to do more damage to people who live in so called "red" states: hospital closings, loss of medical insurance, food insecurity. It's a long and brutal list.
They’ll never blame Trump for it. Here in Washington, the state is scrambling to figure out how to fill the budget hole left by federal cuts and tariffs. Republican voters are up in arms about the state “raising taxes,” and how that would never happen if we would just elect a Republican governor. Who did they think was going to pay for this stuff???
This is where Democratic politicians need to go public everywhere they can find a platform, from TV to social media, and speak passionately and repeatedly about how the state came to need extra money because of cuts by Trump in federal funds that were already set aside for Washington and new taxes on the American people (tariffs) created by Trump.
Those who are regularly protesting on streets with signs and hanging banners over freeway bridges should also hang these financial troubles where they belong--around Trump's neck.
Adelita Grijalva was elected to Congress last night and as soon as she is sworn will sign the resolution petition on Trumepstein, which will force a full House vote.
oh hooray, good news!
Thank god for small favors-there is hope😊
Good news!
I think she has to wait 7 days, but soon hopefully
Brava!
Any one of them could have sunk the nomination.
someone said after the Tylenol farce that if she had to take medical advice from a former heroin addict, she would choose Keith Richards.
Keith Richard's will outlast the heat death of the universe. 😆
that's an absolutely brilliant statement. the comparison really puts it all in quite clear perspective.
I seems the only thing Republicans can be counted on these days is total absequiuous surrender to Donald Trump's whims. They can only be counted on to knee on presidential order.
The demand for knee patched has increased dramatically since Trump's reelection.
I agree. The Republican Senators who gave a pass to Trump's clown car of Cabinet members share responsibility. Grown a spine!
I can tell you how he got reelected, sexism and racism. Our country has a long standing history of this and those who sat out the election and those who voted for the felon practiced both.
You nailed it. Racism and sexism. But those are just symptoms. The cause is Christianity.
Don’t forget homophobia.
Respectfully.....racism and sexism are not Christian
You might want to let the evangelical crowd know about that, 'cause they think otherwise.
This book was written by a man raised Catholic by a former nun and a former priest, and much of it is actual Biblical verses that counteract racism, sexism, bashing immigrants, etc. Fugelsang's point is that many so-called Christians have no idea what's really IN the Bible and are just using superficial talking points to fuel their hatred.

does it say anything about altar boys ?
Every religions known to humankind has at some time in its history been guilty of both racism and sexism. Along with monumental greed.

Bross , yes they are...
Some Christians may endorse racism and sexism (just as some non-Christians may), but neither are Christian.
You mean the current interpretation of Christianity. Like the Republican Party, it isn't what it used to be.
religion is the cause of most of the misery and bull shit in the world.
It has been for centures, and if we read history, we could recognize it.
Sorry, I can’t agree with that. Racism, misogyny, homophobia, etc. have been a part of Christianity for a long, long time. It may not be what Christ taught or envisioned, but it’s what it became early on.
Don't forget hatred.
That and rigging elections by yet-undiscovered means.
Yep. What was that Elon the MuskRat was boasting about doing last election season? A wrinkle in the matrix?
Yes but hard to change that, I think the inflation spike was the biggest factor in tipping the election. It's discouraging when your wages go up but are eaten by inflation and Biden/Harris got the blame exacerbated by Republican propaganda.
In a nutshell.

Imagine the Trump voters’s visceral grip of regret when their grandchildren begin to learn this history and ask the question:
“Gram or Gramp, did you vote for Trump?”
Their questions will make the true price paid by MAGA world come due.

Correction: The Senate is the body that has to vote for impeachment, and yes, too many senators failed the country both times.
Full correction: The House intitates impeachement proceedings and passes it to the Senate to CONVICT and REMOVE. Mitch McConnell and his GOP Senators refused to do this.
You are correct. I wrote too fast. Thanks for fixing it.
Oops, I guess I got that backwards too. I'll fix it now.
The president of Portugal called him a Russian asset. And yes, about a third of us do think he is either stark raving mad, a traitor, or both. You can tell by reading the comments here.
And Fox led by saying that he had made them laugh, as though seeing the world laugh at our president is a good thing.

I thought Trump disdained and eschewed teleprompters. When did that change, anyway?
He derides teleprompters but he uses them--until he goes off script and starts spouting whatever his people were trying not to get him to say.
To borrow from Molly Ivins, I'm sure the speech sounded better in the original German.
I had to wonder if MAGA sorts who happened to watch the UN speech were cheering for “their” guy as he (in their view) “owned the libs” on a grand, global scale? It keeps occurring to me that Musk had his hands in the election results.
Well, the real nightmare would be if he did Not!

How about the possibility that they were afraid to walk out!
Many puppet masters are pulling Trump's strings. A useful idiot.
The more demented he becomes, the easier he is to manipulate...
Dismissing renewable energy, Trump declared, “All green is all bankrupt.”
That was the serial bankrupt embarrassing himself and America while addressing the U.N. General Assembly.
Of course, no one knows more about bankruptcy than Deadbeat Donnie. He even managed to bankrupt his own casinos.
This vacuous man will pull us to an even darker place if he’s not stopped - predominantly that must come from within the US but watching his cringingly awful UN address as a UK citizen, other leaders must find appropriate ways to call him out too.
The President of Portugal recently did. He called tRump out as an asset of Putin.
Sure would be nice if our media would pull that thread a bit. Also, Epstein. The people have a right to know if POTUS is a pedophile.
O homem tem razão.
Certemente!
