Agreed 100%.

Actions of a cult do reveal themselves, a significant problem is awareness in the public.

We have November 2026 as the last chance to save the country.

We need all citizens to attend to this vote - If all voters do, we have a chance.

Petty, yes. And it does indeed turn out that when right-wingers called those of us on the left "snowflakes", it really was projection.

That said, that these so-called "Christians" have so little regard for the Eighth Commandment doesn't surprise me at all. After all, the Commandments only came from God, and He is clearly on a lower tier for these people than Donald Trump, a man who has violated most of the Ten Commandments. Equally clear is that it is Trump who says what is in their hearts, which is why churches like this now avoid those "woke" Gospels from Jesus even while still having the nerve to call themselves a Christian Church.

I taught Composition at the college level. 2 weeks were devoted to book bans. Students were stunned to learn their favorite books had been not only challenged but banned. Thank you for this insightful essay, Austin Sarat.

In spite of their feigned horror, I do not believe that every member of the censorship community has read every word of what they want to ban, and therein lies the threat to READERS! The majority just don’t have a lot of depth. When I was ten, I had a paperback ripped out my hands by a church lady at a flea sale at St. Phillip’s in Atlanta because the short story collection was by French (!!!) authors. Yes, really.

I'm only surprised the "conservative" governments aren't hiring on "firemen," to rid us of the evil of Books.

These people are NOT Christians. They’re phonies who want to control everyone else. They obviously didn’t learn anything from their bible study.

Austin, your post is all the more reason people should help educators clear wishlists. There are so many books we want for students that might otherwise be banned/that there's not enough money for.
