“ always concerned, but never courageous.”

What an accurate description of the USELESS Susan Collins…who has voted for many many things that are antithetical to the Health of this country. OUT with Collins! As Janet Mills said “Enough is enough!” Exactly right!

I love the Contrarians but Janet Mills is far too old to be running for the senate. I think, if elected, she'd start her term in the senate at age 80.

Would you consider interviewing Graham Platner?

Rose, it's all about the crucial need to gain an additional Democrat Senate seat. If Governor Mills has what it takes to take down Collins, and it sounds like she does, she should run for the seat, age be damned. Age limits and term limits are a fight for another day when the fascist GOP has been eviscerated for decades to come. Please, don't let the perfect defeat the good. The 'all hat no cattle' Collins must go.

I hear you and I don’t believe there’s no other choice. It’s like we haven't learned from Joe Biden’s precipitous decline. For me it’s a question of integrity for the democrats. I am quite sure there are others who could beat Collins if they had the full support of the party behind them.

Mills has integrity. How people age varies. Biden had only one term in him and unfortunately pushed on. People voted for Trump regardless of his age. Reagan? I would vote for Bernie Sanders now even if he had only 1 year in him! Let someone come forward who is younger and who has enough experience and has their head in the right place. Otherwise one has to make a choice. There are many qualified people but running for high office is quite an undertaking.

I did not say nor imply there is no other choice for Maine voters. I said that if Mills has the best chance to win the seat, she should be supported regardless of her age. Don't let age issues determine who you vote for because in the 2026 mid terms, the one and only concern is who can defeat Collins.

Yes! He served our country, got PTSD from service, lost his way, then had therapy and admits the past issues. He is passionate, electrifying, and has been all over Maine listening to people. We so need the younger generations. I’m old enough to know that a senator beginning her term at age 80 is a big (possibly ego driven?) error in judgment.

Cindy Wiggins's avatar

So that's the line of attack? Ego? To undermine Mills life of public service to Maine? Wow. I guess attacking someone's character is how it's done these days in politics.

Marian's avatar

Sorry, Janet Mills needs to step down and let the younger generation have a chance at being a Senator from Maine.

Potter's avatar

She has tremendous experience. Age and experience are valuable assets. Her head is in the right place. Let someone younger whose head is in the right place run for the job she has now, that of Governor.

Steve 218's avatar

Are there any qualified of the "younger generation" in the running for the office? If so, we need to hear from them.

Steve 218's avatar

So Governor Mills wants to replace Susan Collins. It's high time, as far more than "concern" is needed to get the ship of state back to an even keel. Collins should even understand that Trump never "learned his lesson".

Go, Gov. Mills! It's time for Sen. Collins to retire in reality as she's retired in effect.

Good luck Janet Mills!

I was "all in" for Graham Platner, especially because of the Bernie platform. People need to be able to survive, to have housing and healthcare. The government for the billionaires must end. I expressed to the Governor that she needed to step aside for the younger generation. But while Graham has the fiery rhetoric and voice to go with it, the Governor has the wisdom and experience, and she is kicking Trump's ass right now. We the People, and the lawyers and the governors are the ones saving us, so, thanks to Jen's interview with the Governor, I have changed my mind. Age be damned. Full steam ahead.

I made the mistake, but not sorry, of reading what Jay Kuo sent out today; a few pages from the Epstein files. Horrific! If she thinks DJT has changed she’s delusional. He is an evil man & always has been.

Nona Faurnonce's avatar

It was Susan Collins who said DJT has changed, meaning she felt it was okay to trust him. She said that some years ago during Donald's first term. It was her excuse for voting with Republicans yet again on some crucial issue. (Can't remember now which issue, as it has happened so MANY times with Susan Collins.)

Steve 218's avatar

What Collins said was that she thought Trump had learned his lesson. Well, he hasn't. Her trust was misguided and misplaced.

Nona Faurnonce's avatar

Nearly as I can recall, given it was some years ago, she said both -- that Trump had learned his lesson and that she trusted it would be okay to let him do whatever it was they were voting on that time. Frankly, I'm not sure if she trusted him at all. Given her track record, it seemed to be just her latest excuse to vote with her party. As Adam Kinzinger said recently, politicians learn to vote one way but at the same time express concern, etc., so that the maximum number of voters will continue to support them.

Elizabeth J.'s avatar

Yep. I meant to indicate that Susan Collins said that. Thanks for clarification. I’m still in shock from reading Epstein file that Jay Kuo & others kept from being redacted.

You must mean Collins

On S. Collins (R-Maine):

"Well, ...... at least she will have learned a lesson....."

May she retire and never be heard of again.

Irena's avatar

Way past time for a Maine Senator who does more than show "concern"!

James Brokaw's avatar

As others have said, I very much hope you'll interview Graham Platner, Mills's primary opponent.

Potter's avatar

Good luck to Janet Mills!

My daughter (Brooklyn) and I (NC) were talking about the Maine Senate race between Platner and Mills. Obviously, we are nonvoters and Maine will decide.

My daughter feels strongly that aged politicians have stayed past their expiration date and prevented the emergence of a younger generation of politicians. So my daughter really wants to support Platner and give his progressive policies a chance.

But.... as a woman, she can't get past the tattoos and past remarks that show a disdain for women and minorities. I didn't know what the tattoo meant. Or I was young when I made those disgusting remarks and I know better now. Everyone deserves a second change. Sure. But those episodes in Platner's past raise enough questions about his character that my daughter probably wouldn't vote for him. Because character counts, especially now.

Wonderful interview.

I am not a Maine voter. I understand the tug between Mills and Platner. Old vs young. Status quo vs. progressive.

This interview has caused me to change my mind. As Gov. Mills spoke she made her age a non issue for me. If anything, she showed the kind of focus on what are essentials, the key of what matters to the people of Maine, that comes with experience and even age.

Civil rights, health care, reproductive freedom, strong economy.

So it's up to Mainers. But I envy them for having such a strong candidate to finally topple Collins.

Remember what Collins said after the 1st impeachment "I think he (Trump) has learned his lesson". Well, he showed her!. Looking at her actions hence, she is double-dealing.
