Gee, this is remarkable. My wife & I will be at the Monona, Wisconsin rally Saturday morning and neither of us knew we were married to a terrorist, much less part of antifa. I guess they must have forgotten to send the membership cards, Huh?

It might be instructive for the GOPers to know that I'm 82, my wife is 78 and we are comfortably well-to-do church-going Caucasians in the upper Midwest. And we are utterly appalled by what Trump and his minions are doing to America and the world!

77 here, and will be joining our group in front of the county courthouse in Carlinville, Illinois. It's a fairly red downstate town, but there is still a great deal of support.

Oldandintheway's avatar

Wherever you are, I hope your group makes a video of everyone singing “All You Need Is Love “ and send it to Speaker Johnson.

I’m 85, and I’m going to my local rally in NJ. I’m taking my transport chair and my sign that reads”Hate cannot overcome hate, only Love ❤️ can do that!”.

Jane Carr's avatar

Thank you, Marybeth. I admire you for getting out there. I’m 81 and can’t quite make the protest but I am helping in other ways.❤️

Just turned 80, will be wearing my rainbow "Abide no hate" tee shirt on Saturday.

Another youngster at 74. Going to a rally in rural NC. I've been to a bunch and can say that the good cheer is worth all the trouble.

Kristi Hein's avatar

I turn 74 tomorrow, and the day after that, NO KINGS! My first rally was a civil rights march across the Golden Gate Bridge in . . . must have been around 1964. Many since. Recently I've been the driver honking and waving at our small town's 2x/week rally, but I am making sure to be at this one.

Biff52 Lost Canadian's avatar

3 months behind you, and been marching as long as you. Fighting the same fight for 60 years is not as fun as I thought it would be.

I am originally from rural NC, Lenoir, born and raised. Left at 18. Where do you live?

Wendy horgan's avatar

Maiden NC. Near Lincolnton. About 1 hr NW of Charlotte.

A newbie. Moved here in 2020.

Marlene Lerner-Bigley (CA)'s avatar

I know exactly where Maiden is! My great-uncle used to have a clothing store in Lincolnton. When he started to become blind, the city painted white lines on the street from his house to his store. Then the stores along the way, painted their storefronts different colors so he could identify where he was.

How did you end up in Maiden?

Wendy horgan's avatar

My daughter and grandson live in Charlotte. She helped me search and found a 10 acre lot in Maiden (minutes from downtown Lincolnton) that was an easy drive to Charlotte and had room for my 3 horses (horse+ pony + donkey).

I am not surprised about your great-uncles story. There is a courtesy and kindness here - except when it bumps into politics.

My wife and I will be in Milwaukee on Saturday. I’m 75 and she’s 73, and Mr. Corey, I too am distraught that we haven’t received our Antifa membership cards. I’m going to check to see if our AARP cards might qualify us to Antifa benefits. At least, perhaps, a 10% discount on protest sign materials!

Resistance is required!

Be safe!

Have fun Saturday!

I'm 71 and definitely ANTIFA (anti-fascist). The six Christian Nationalists on the Supreme Court and GOP Congressional members have fully supported the Felon's making the United States an authoritarian theocracy, with the Felon as leader and the American oligarchs running the Country (Putin's Russia).

These are peaceful rallies held by those of us who love our country and are willing to joyously celebrate our 1st amendment rights to speak out against the immoral atrocities being perpetrated on our fellow Americans, our friends and neighbors. The best line in your interview with Neera Tanden was when she said, “We are the Patriots here.” Say it loud and clear. WE ARE THE PATRIOTS HERE.

Swbv's avatar

Watch what the other hand is doing. "Donald Trump has upped the ante in deploying the military against Americans, indicting political enemies, and effectively disbanding the House (Speaker Mike Johnson’s decision to keep members out of town is certainly not his own)."

Mike Johnson is just keeping the House from focusing on the Epstein Files. Humorous if not so depraved to see our holier than thou Speaker of the House smothering further disclosure about child abuse. I don't think he'll be able to contain the fire forever.

Daniel Solomon's avatar

Mike Johnson is a little snake hiding behind his forever smile. No one can blatantly lie like this and not be seen for who he is....

Swbv's avatar

Although JD Vance gives him a run for the money

Lydia Lucas's avatar

But Vance, with his pinched cheeks and little pig eyes, is incapable of looking smiley and virtuous.

Deb Pierce's avatar

Sophia, I grew up with whyt Christian nationalists, in Wheaton, Illinois (home of Wheaton College, where Russell Vought went to school). The "forever smile" is a great description, and it's also a tell. When they do that all the time, that's how one knows they're lying at least 95% of the time. Mike Johnson is a great exemplar of the group, in my view. Stay safe.

Lydia Lucas's avatar

I've seen that observation about the constant smiley at some time in the past. I'd forgotten about it. A very good thing to keep in mind.

Strongly recommend reading this Guardian article: extract from Virginia Roberts Giuffre's posthumous memoir.

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/oct/15/prince-andrew-virginia-giuffre-abuse-epstein-maxwell

Knowing how she died, and the trauma she'd had to live with for decades defies belief. But all it's true; Epstein and Maxwell were found guilty of various abuses of minors - now here's the damning statements of Trump's involvement as well. The truth has to come out. Prince Andrew is an 'also-ran'.

Science Curmudgeon's avatar

We need to embrace Antifa for what it is - an anti-fascist cause. The first Antifa movie was Charlie Chaplin's "The Great Dictator" in 1940. That was followed by the great Antifa war: WW-II. Opposition to fascism is what tRump and his supporters fear, so they vilify it. Opposing fascism is critical to the survival of the great experiment.

Jane in NC's avatar

My late FIL was a proud anti-fascist who landed at Normandy, fought in the Battle of the Bulge and won a Purple Heart. I'll be protesting in his memory, wearing his service cap.

Brian Brandt's avatar

Thank you & God bless you for honoring your late FIL’s military service as you participate in the NO KINGS protest. My deceased relatives and friends who fought in WWII would approve. Heroes, every one of them. GOP leaders condemning NO KINGS protests are the ugly inversion of men like your FIL, men whose honor and courage in military service helped to end the atrocities enacted by fascist Germany and imperial Japan. MAGA-GOP wants to revive the old fascism that imposed misery on millions. Nothing could be more American than to protest, and end, that threat.

Jane in NC's avatar

Thank you for your very kind words, Brian. My late FIL, a lifelong conservative republican, would be utterly appalled by what Donald Trump and his MAGA flying monkeys are doing. His idea of manhood - my dad's as well (Air Force vet who served during the Korean War) - was to quietly go about the business of working, caring for his family, and supporting the foundational ideals of his country. Those men KNEW the cost of upholding the Constitution and our democracy. 'Nothing could be more American than to protest and end that threat' - I can see my dad and FIL nodding in agreement.

Brian Brandt's avatar

Thank you for this background. I’m touched to learn that they would nod in agreement with my statement. It catches my attention because I’m a lifelong liberal democrat. If your conservative FIL and I can agree on something so basic, it helps me believe that there’s hope to fix these problems we’re facing. I hope & pray that your father & FIL are cheering us on in spirit.

Science Curmudgeon's avatar

All of my uncles who were old enough served and came home uninjured. They were in every branch of service except the coast guard. My father was a B-17 pilot who won the distinguished flying cross. They all knew exactly what they were fighting for and tRump's goals aren't it.

Jane in NC's avatar

My gratitude to all of your uncles. This country owes them a debt we can never repay. I'm sure they'd all be horrified by this regime.

Science Curmudgeon's avatar

It is no accident that The Greatest Generation is now just a memory held by their grandchildren. They and the medal of honor winners from that war are mostly not here to stand and say "NO!" to tRump. Only a few thousand of the 16 million who served are still alive.

Jane in NC's avatar

That's why it's up to us, their descendants, to carry the torch they lit for us.

L B Rose's avatar

And wasn't Agent Orange himself an anti-fascist Democrat for most of his life? He had to switch parties to become a terrorist.

Science Curmudgeon's avatar

Like several other moguls and mogul wanna-be's he switched parties freely to align with whomever had power.

L B Rose's avatar

Yes. The only principles these folks have are greed and cruelty. And, like toddlers, they want to do whatever they feel like doing without any consequences.

Robot Bender's avatar

My Dad was Antifa. He was sent to Germany in 1944.

Jane in NC's avatar

Eternal thanks to your Dad! 🫡

I will be marching on Saturday. It won't be easy for me because I live in France - 5 hours driving from the nearest demonstration - organised by Democrats Abroad. I'm 76 and driving is not easy. I've had to hire someone to stay in my house and take care of the cats while I'm away staying in a hotel. I feel this is something that I must do because I'm an American.

Anne-Louise Luccarini's avatar

The French will be proud of you. They know what it's like to be trapped in fascist rule, and they never gave up.

donna woodward's avatar

Thank you for your patriotism. At least the government you're living under won't try to attack you for your protest.

Charlie in VA's avatar

Let's swamp the internet with pictures from our peaceful, joyful NO KINGS events!

Paul Braterman, Facts Matter's avatar

One important detail. The Venezuelan sailors murdered are not "suspected drug smugglers". They are *alleged* drug smugglers, since apart from the Regime's claim, there is no reason to suspect them of drug smuggling, and every reason to doubt the allegation.

It's Come To This's avatar

Not a speck -- not one iota of evidence -- has been produced to support the allegation. Just adding. But they have produced at least two snuff films for the pleasure of their demented cult.

Sophia Demas's avatar

They are murdering fishermen! And now threatening to bomb people on the mainland? This is sheer madness and a stain on our country that will never go away....

Robot Bender's avatar

Yes, let's attack a jungle country with a fairly good military who knows scrubbed inch of the battlefield. Where have I heard that before? /s

Steve 218's avatar

And since they and their boatsd have been conveniently destroyed, thre is no way to determine what they were or were not doing. These were attacks against citizens of a foreign country in international waters where we weren't invited. Now who are the pirates?

Nancy's avatar

Why isn't the international community speaking out about our government murdering people in boats without cause, other than "I said so"?

Andan Casamajor's avatar

The regime is laying a foundation for regime change in Venezuela. Venezuela is the new Iraq, and Maduro is the new Saddam Hussein. Literally, no particular reason for the sudden naval buildup and these aggressive murder missions in international waters.

The history of drug smuggling is that Venezuela is not a major player, even though it shares a border with cocaine capital Colombia. And those little speedboats are too small for significant smuggling, too vulnerable speeding along in broad daylight, and utterly lacking the range to reach the United States mainland. It's a ruse. It's terrorism.

All we need to know about why there, why now can be summed up in three words: oil, Epstein diversion.

The mob boss is literally ready to order an invasion and start a war to cover up his sordid past. But hey, Iraq was a smashing success, right? Right?

Richard Brody's avatar

Suspected or alleged, pretty interchangeable, but at its base is just another big lie. We shouldn’t be surprised at stuff like this, but continue to call it out for what it is.

Paul Braterman, Facts Matter's avatar

I think there is a crucial difference. "Suspected" means that those responsible for the killings actually thought that they had reason to think that the victims may have been drug smugglers. "Alleged" reminds us that while the Regime has said that they were drug smugglers, they have given us no reason why we, or they, should imagine anything of the kind

Steven Erick's avatar

Wow, 20 million terrorists. More likely the 271 member of Congress who insist on violating their oath of office are more likely terrorists with Mike Osama Ben Johnson as their defacto head.

SJR's avatar

And this morning I read that portions of I-5 in California will be shut down for a JD Vance "Vanity Parade" on Friday and Saturday. Live ordinance will be fired from warships close to shore despite the objections of Gov. Newsom!!

I look forward to seeing that that the No Kings rallies will persist, no matter what.

Choirmaster's avatar

Actually, they decided not to close the freeway. I was actually in favor of it for safety reasons given his motorcade's habit of driving in the wrong direction or on the wrong side of the road.

Steve 218's avatar

Are there any bets on how our "legacy media" will report on this demonstration?

Anne-Louise Luccarini's avatar

Vanity parade? exhibition of sabre-rattling?

Robot Bender's avatar

Both, I think. A threat to Blue states?

Anne-Louise Luccarini's avatar

That's what it looks like.

Sally Fell's avatar

I wonder how much this will cost the American taxpayer.

Richard Brody's avatar

Where on I-5? It goes the entire length of the state and is many miles to the east of the Pacific Ocean for much of its route.

Robot Bender's avatar

Well, they're supposed to be firing into Camp Pendleton, if that helps.

Harvey Perry's avatar

Mike Johnson is inciting right wing terrorists to attack peaceful protestors exercising their Constitutional rights to peacefully assemble and to speak freely. And he is the person doing all that he can to coverup the Epstein files to protect pedophiles. A pathetic hypocrite.

Merrill's avatar

Is there a difference between the current behavior of corrupt GOP leadership and the Young Republicans' texts? It looks to me like the same barrel of rotten fish. Sad days in America.

Let's start taking our country back on Saturday.

Anne Pierce's avatar

Vance is making excuses for the people who sent the texts, calling them "kids" even though they are all 25 and older. Wow.

Lydia Lucas's avatar
