January 31: Allow yourself to admire the growing number of voices who are refusing to submit to a tyrant, and allow yourself a chuckle, despite it all...
The air disaster in Washington is a paradigm of the Trump Regime: get in early blaming anything bad that has happened on women, black people -- any minority. You report what he says, which is obviously false and a bad way to behave. But you don't ask, "Why is the Trump Regime lying?" I suspect careful surveys would reveal that what listeners heard was that the President of the United States and his apparatchiks announced within minutes of the air crash that DEI caused the air crash. By saying so immediately, regardless of and well before the statutory investigation even begins, the Trump Regime forced the press to report that DEI caused the air crash. To cope with this tactic, the press would have to reimagine its role as more than mere reporting: either it would have to ignore what the Trump Regime says entirely; or to report in advance each morning that, "today the Administration will announce that Democrats and DEI caused whatever bad happens today," before the Regime says it.
>"the Trump Regime forced the press to report that DEI caused the air crash"
The credible news media should couch King Donald's remarks with the preface, "Without any proof or substantiation, the Trump Regime..." That would portray his remarks in the right light.
Some thoughts on this: We should not expect Jen, Norm, or anyone else, including ourselves to be perfect, but I agree with suggesting ways to attack/ignore and pre-empt the wholly illegitimate Trump regime and his attempted, so-called decrees. His blame-shifting, and his attempted targets were entirely predictable, though I'll admit to having an "I hope I'm wrong about this" moment, which means 99% of the time I'm not. Jen and Norm were courageous and big enough to refuse to go along and bow and scrape, so we can be reasonably confident they can take some critiquing of how to do this even better. So can the rest of us. Iron sharpens iron.
For years when I first open the WaPo I would glance at the headlines and then look for the latest from Jen Rubin. Now she is here, more free than ever, and still writing to me. I like it.
I can remember making a connecting flight from DCA to Hartford CT back in 2013. With so much protected air space around the area I remember seeing the Pentagon from an aisle seat. That airport was very crowded and it was in July of that year when summer travel was likely at its peak. I’m grateful that no serious air disasters have occurred there prior to the Wednesday evening tragedy but I hope that whatever went awry can be resolved quickly.
Trump’s complete lack of respect and empathy for the families of the victims is beyond appalling it borders on being psychopathic. Considering the rush of passengers at the time I was at DCA, I thought they were actually quite efficient compared to Atlanta, Dallas and O’Hare.
Trump doesn’t have to travel the way I do so he’s totally clueless.
Excellent suggestions. I have to believe that, even among his most loyal followers, there are some who are actually scratching their heads over some of the cruel, inhumane things he's done - hurting them too, imagine that! - and finally realizing the way they were scammed. It's like the street magician who distracts you with busy moves and blather from noticing which coconut has the pea: another horrible example of his pattern. But I have to believe that each time, under some MAGA cap somewhere, another mind opens a crack...
Jen, I am a subscriber to the Contraian. Would it be possible to do a transcript of your videos. I read my news and absorb the news better when I read it. I can also stop and think when I read, or go back and read a salient statement.
I am a fan and thank you for your bravery and your knowledge!
Another symbol coopted! Someone should tell Karoline Leavitt to lose the prominent cross jewelry. The words of her mouth and meditations of her heart (a paraphrase of Psalm 19:14 KJV) do not the symbol's message.

Or, something along the lines of:
"Without even waiting for the families of the victims to be notified, Trump blamed "DEI" and the Democrats for the crash...."

Acosta should join The Contrarian and be the WH reporter.

Despite it all. Checkout brownbird's bilgewater song:

"In spite of all the wherewithal
To fight it all, I will face it all
In spite of all the wherewithal
To fight it all, I'll embrace it all
When every day's like a war between the will to go on
And a wish that the world would spiral into the sun
Turn your head toward the storm that's surely coming along
If the sun was always shining and our load always light
We'd be shaking like a leaf with every God given night
And we'd break under the weight of any pressure
That was ever applied"
