Such an amazing project! I had never heard of it. Thank you for such a positive voter news story, and thank you Jason for your incredible work.

The problem is it’s almost impossible to keep up with the Republicans moves to eliminate voters freedom to vote, all this effort on their part too disenfranchise all kinds of voters. Not just black and brown but everybody. Redistricting in the middle of the 10 years and there were just a couple of court cases in the last several days, especially the fifth circuit where these efforts on the part of voters to undo these attempts were shut down. It’s looking like a real uphill battle to keep voters able to vote much less get more of them into the mix.

We are at war, this is true. What is also true and *super important* to remember is that elections still matter. Elections are still free and fair. And Democrats continue to *crush them.* So yes, this battle for our voting rights needs to continue at all levels, and it will. But a HUGE part of how we win - the biggest, fastest, and most overlooked part - is registering new voters for our side! Especially in the swing states and districts. This is a job for Field Team 6! And YOU!! Join us!

And get them to the polls, not just register. That’s where the rubber meets the road. It was just decided in court that you can’t give food or water to those in line! They will try to intimidate her at the polls too. So we have our work cut out for us.

YES! Voting is what matters! We connect with our newly registered voters on the issues that matter to them, to make them more likely to vote!

I commend the work being done, mainly by volunteers. Please, do NOT write off Missouri. Jess Piper is working hard there and can use all the support that can be provided. As she says, over and over, talk with people, wherever they may be, and connect on issues.

I think you could ask MO candidates what they need.

Yes-St Louis, Columbia & Kansas City are blue; it’s the rural areas that we need to target.

I love the effort around the next election but I fear that there won't be one. What is our plan if our elections are cancelled?

Jason Berlin's avatar

Even incompletely compromised autocracies, like Russia, elections are not cancelled, they are just manipulated and fake. However, our elections, right now, are not fake. They continue to be free and fair. And organizing - specifically registering new Democrats in swing states - continues to be the most effective way to win them. If the question is: Can organizing ever beat cheating and voter suppression? The answer is clearly YES. In fact it has, over and over again. And this last election, the best in a *decade* for Democrats, just proved that once again.

Horrendous…

I'm all in favor of a blue tsunami in 26. But I'm a little conflicted about these folks targeting likely Democratic voters instead of registering every possible voter.

At the end of the day, small-d democracy works because EVERYONE expresses their opinion by voting. So I wish Rubin has asked if they were registering everyone they tried to contact, as opposed to asking what party they would vote for.... then deciding if they wanted to take their registration info for.

Field Team 6 volunteers are always upbeat and polite to everyone we interact with. And we always fulfill our legal obligations with every new voter (which vary by state), no matter what their political stripe. Our mission is specifically to register Democrats and independents who will vote for Democrats, partially because they are currently the only party that believes in democracy – and in voter registration. We're facing an existential threat right now, and what we're doing is more important than ever, because non-partisan voter registration tends to register more red than blue voters.

Thank you for clarifying. I'm glad to know your voter registration drives are remaining legal for each state's rules.

I agree with the need for pre-democracy candidates to win the next few election cycles. And sadly those are overwhelmingly NOT Republicans this decade. I do believe we are in an existential crisis for democracy right now. But long term it's important not to discourage those with whom we disagree with from participating.

I think ultimately your assessment is correct and in normal times that should always be the goal. But we are not in normal times-we are in crisis mode & these bold, targeted methods may be our last bastion to ever have elections again.

Could not agree more. Well said.

Great, unregistered voters.
