It occurred to me, about those Republicans and what their red line might be, that whatever it is or was, it may very well have been crossed months ago. If that’s the case, they’ve got nothing but what may come from aligning with Trump. That’s if they weren’t already all in with Trump or all in with whomever would be at the top of the ticket. If they have a red line that hasn’t yet been crossed, it must be so personal to them that by the time it’s crossed, they’ll have no recourse. No recourse, because the indifference that they have exhibited is what they themselves would be experiencing at that point.

I agree with everything you assert, and more power to you for your stand! To emphasize, the arrests of Black individuals right after the high-profile killings of white protesters, I firmly believe that, along with much of the horror we are seeing right now, it is done for effect. The brutality and cruelty are deliberate, the thugs are encouraged to let all of their worst impulses out on both the alleged immigrants they are "arresting" and the protesters being called "terrorists." But the deliberate, state-sponsored, public and documented murder of two ordinary white people had a potentially harmful effect on the program of intimidation. As manyhave pointed out, they treated some white folks the way Black folks are still routinely treated; which correctly telegraphs that we are all targeted now; and some clueless MAGA types might be belatedly recognizing that their whiteness might not protect them. So by quickly arresting a handful of prominent Black individuals, I believe part of the intent is to reassure the average MAGA that the murders were just an aberration, it's really business as usual, Black folks are really the target. I am not sure that's going to wholly do the job, in part because the other part of the plan is getting so much attention, that is, the criminalizing of journalism itself. Real journalists, whoever they are, don't have the luxury of looking away now, either. Unless they give up being journalists to become toadies.
