Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill joins Jen Rubin to discuss the recent national security scandal Signalgate and her recently-announced run for New Jersey Governor.
Thanks Jen! Wonderful interview! When Mikie Sherrill says that Republicans are now using "weird" MAGA words in town halls, my own gut feeling is that the words could be from Project 2025, although I have no proof. Independent of Trump's disavowal of it, Project 2025 is the blueprint for everything his administration does, and possibly says. One would have to ask if the reason that Congressional Republicans may sound like a cult, is because they are reading from material they have been given.
Key members who wrote it are now in the White House, implementing it, and Paul Dans, who was the Director of Project 2025, and was fired as a sacrificial lamb, when campaign staff and Trump felt its unpopularity with voters might derail Trump's campaign, is finally doing his victory lap.
In a March 16, 2025 interview with Politico, "Dans effectively confirmed what Democrats were saying all along and Trump himself denied: There really is almost no difference between Project 2025 and what Trump was planning all along and is now implementing."
Dans continued, "I'm not sure that you’d be able to implement Project 2025 without Donald Trump’s ability to bring people together and Elon Musk’s ability to focus the direction of the work.”
It's a much bigger story than this comment, and I've reading about it for weeks. When Mikie and Jen were talking about the danger of the Signalgate debacle, it is important to know that Kevin Roberts, the mastermind of Project 2025, and CEO of The Heritage Foundation said he was spending one million dollars to pressure Republican senators to back Hegseth for the Pentagon job." I guess he got his money's worth!
This was such a clear and insightful interview. Is she termed out? I hate to lose her from Congress, but what a great candidate for Governor. New Jersey will be lucky to have her as Governor.
Talking about the GOP in lockstep, lately I've noticed that every Republican male in Congress is wearing a Trump red tie. At first I thought it was a fluke, but it seems to be a (super ugly) uniform.
I love hearing from and about candidates running for office. Not only is it informative, but it is beyond relief to know that intelligent, informed folks still exist during this shit show of morons. Thank you so much.
Maybe Dems need to be more unified against Maga politics. We need to look like a unified group and stand up for what is meaningful to the people. Analyze what reps do and see what can be adapted so we win the next elections.
Anyone notice that FF 47PINO has thrown president musk under the bus by those 25% tariffs on imported cars?. Tesla and China anyone? Yep it started (not soon enough)! Karma is flexing its muscles! Oh, boy!!! 👏👏
Will a Democrat candidate replace Ms. Sherill in the House? Unless that is a sure thing, we cannot afford losing a Congressional seat to a Republican candidate.
Good luck with your Governor Campaign in NJ. We need more like you in Congress. Hopefully someone like you takes your place there. As a "Jersey Boy" now living in NY I tend to follow New Jersey events.
It was hard to believe that when the story broke the term Signalgate was used in ONLY three media stories. They were listed in the Wiki article about it. By the morning you couldn't count how many article were callig it Signalgate. I wrote a Substack the first day and had to revise it entirely the next morning. This is what I wrote: "Trump survived Pussygate unscathed. Will he survive Signalgate unscathed? It appears that our military and intelligence agencies are being run by Col. Klink and Sgt. Shutlz." It is great to see a candidate who understands the importance of working at the state level. The Democratic party has had a tendency to act as if only federal races are important and that has cost us dearly when the census is done every ten years and states redraw their districts.
I feel comments from DOJ, FBI, Dept of Defense etc. clearly indicates Military soldiers harm ways in this operation is not a priority. They are trying to turn the tables, bringing in Hillary, Biden, Really? What matters is the present high risk to the operations and the soldiers. This is beyond dumb. Of course, we can't expect GOP to place pressure to fire cabinet members Because their job is priority, forget about security risk and we the people.

An amazing interview. I'm thrilled to support the Contrarian!

Really enjoyed this!!
This is what leadership looks like. Mikie is awesome. Yet another great Democrat on the bench.
If Rep Sherrill wins I am moving to the Garden State! I will just have to figure out which exit. 😉
And where to afford the housing.

By the way, EXCELLENT interview.
