This article is exactly the reason why I call Democratic leadership and the majority of old fart Democrats in Congress lazy.

It takes a lot of work to be as obstructionist as the fascists are when they are in the minority.

Schumer, Jeffries and all too many Democrats have shown they are not willing to do the extra work required to obstruct and slow down the fascists on their way to destroying democracy in AND this country as a whole.

Yes, there are a number of Democrats who are doing great and extra work, like AOC, Booker, Swalwell and more, but it is not enough.

Perfect description for Senate Republicans!

Thank you for stating the reality of today's GOP Senate and their willingness to do anything for the Dictator wannabe. There is no bipartisan solution possible as we are now 15 days from shutdown given how willing Thune is to change rules to suit the issue Trump wants resolved for him. A shutdown would need the willingness of Dems to go to the wall and have simple messages to speak to all Americnas about the political realities. As they did not do it in March, I am not very hopeful now as the clock is ticking.

Norm, your reasoned approach is right on and absolutely correct. I hope that Democrats in Congress read it and understand that extreme and difficult measures are needed right now. We the people will support them.

I was with you until you wrote, "It is already late in the game". I thought you were going to say that the point of the CR in March was to have negotiations between then and now - not 2 weeks in advance of a September 30th shutdown. Senate Democrats have had 6 months - including critical months since the passage of the Big UGLY BILL - to name the price of their 60votes. Nothing. And now we expect that Senate Democrats, with a one month CR, will suddenly take themselves seriously or be taken seriously.

NO. Shutdown.

PS. Why are tax cuts always off the table? Taxing away tax giveaways for the one percent have broad public support.

Very true. Taking away tax cuts for billionaires and corporations is very popular, but Democratic leadership care more about their sugar daddies than democracy. We see that in the failure of Schumer and Jeffries refusal to endorse Mamdani.

‘Jen Rubin’s 5 conditions as a starting point.’ I’m expecting some bold leadership from the Democrats. I’ll make my calls tomorrow.

Let them shut it down. The less the MAGA Mob can "officially" do, the better for all of us. Herr Fuehrer Drumpf will pull his illegal shenanigans regardless.

Thank you for stating plainly the dangers of trying to whitewash the perfidy of the GOP under “reasonable” rubric. These are not reasonable people outside their own closed circles, and they have forgotten the give-and-take of compromise.

Democrats should not fight for subsidies for healthcare insurance to continue without eliminating significant funding for ICE, National Guard overreach, etc. Even a Republican pollster said eliminating subsidies would guarantee a Democratic Senate. When the middle class and upper middle class see their premiums soar, they will be angry. Democrats should be wary of saving Republicans from their own stupidity.

The increase in healthcare premiums are planned to take place AFTER the midterm elections, so as to deceive voters.

It is kicking people off Medicaid that takes place after the election. It is the removal of Obamacare subsidies that takes place on January 1. In fact, insurance companies will post their updated rates on November 1. Many people who will be affected are middle class and upper middle class, people who vote regularly.

Also, even though Medicaid cuts won’t take place until 2027, providers and hospitals, will cut back services before then.

Thanks. I stand corrected.

Thanks for the correction, Ernest!
