It is even more than Nesbit describes; disfiguring the White House is psychological warfare against the American people who do not have a financial stake at play in that little project. This is how sociopaths operate--they use pain as a weapon. To many of us who have never been to Washington and to those who have actually seen it with their own eyes, the White House IS America, just as the Statue of Liberty is really more than a symbol to us. It is a manifestation of the idea of democracy, which has no physical shape. We cling to these icons that bring us together as a people.

Every American may not have read the Constitution but does know what the White House looks like. It is the embodiment of our identity as a people. Destroying identity is one tool that sociopaths use to wear down their victims. When will we have the conversation about electing a mentally deficient, malevolent sociopath? When? It just wasn't polite fodder for the 2024 campaign season, was it?

Along with a large group of experienced mental health professionals I have been writng about Trump's dangerous psychpathology since 2017. Try Googling this: https://www.google.com/search?q=Trump+sadistic+malignant+narcissist+Hal+Brown+MSW

America has just been raped. As an 86 year old American who has lived in Washington and walked past the White House for many years and visited it many times, I am heartbroken, enraged and in utter disbelief. Trump has been using and abusing America for years, but this is violation of the first order. If the vast majority of my fellow Americans do not stand up to challenge this lawless monster after this, I give up hope for our country.

Without a doubt, a desecration. He has never had any intention of leaving. A lame duck president doesn't "gild & build". I said this when I saw the first glint of gold. The fix is in. He will not be able to be contained unless it's feet first. He is out of control and feels invincible.

On top of losing the East Wing and the offices,, it also housed the White House movie theatre. A lot of people won't care with what is going on in the world, but I do. Anything about film and its preservation is important to me. It's part of White House history. I didn't know until I read it today in The Hollywood Reporter, the first movie to ever play there was" Birth of a Nation" in 1915 watched by Woodrow Wilson. Then over the years redone there.and expanded to seat 50. But FDR, Reagan (also an actor and ex head of SAG so it must have been importan at the WHt then) , Laura Bush redid it and loved it, Clinton, Obama, even Trump. Makes me sick. Are they going to rebuild and incorporate it in this garish monstrosity? It will look like a burlesque theatre if they do. Probably IMAX that will play Melania's doc on a loop 24/7. All that history. Plus the wing had beautiful paneling, woodwork, marble, paintings, furniture. Was anything preserved? Doubtful.

He cares nothing about history. We hated him in NY when he destroyed some authentic art deco friezes on the front of a beloved store called Bonwit Teller. The Met Museum wanted to save them. He was spiteful and just destroyed them.Tore it down to build that souless Trump.Tower. He ruined our country and the world in 10 months. Demolished the East Wing in 2 days. I'm horrified, incandescent with rage, and so depressed from this. This was the ultimate power play from him.

I feel the same pain and outrage.

Tear it down… the ballroom that is.

How the hell does one pour concrete over a rose garden only to build something that looks like a cheap whore house? A psycho that’s who. That’s a stain on America for electing this miscreant.

I demand to know what happened to the works of art and historical items in the East Wing!!! Did Vanshitzinpants sell them off to the highest bidding cronies? They were definitely NOT carefully removed prior to his tantrum on Monday over the NO KINGS demonstrations. Curators are in charge of them but they were nowhere to be seen. It was all impulsive, just like the Orange Toddler.

Not satisfied with vandalizing our democracy and the alliances we built in WWII Trump is now vandalizing the the East Wing built by Roosevelt in 1942 seeing the need to house additional staff and offices to reflect the growing complexity of the federal government at the time.

Lack of understanding about the boundaries of property ownership can lead to unauthorized use, especially among adolescents during critical phases of moral development.

Early trauma, ineffective parenting, diminished empathy such as that experienced by Trump at the hands of hid father can increase vulnerability to these outcomes., which often persist into adulthood, influencing functioning across various domains. Deficits in empathy and concern for others are correlated with heightened aggression and antisocial conduct.

Accurate psychological assessment.

I bet there was asbestos in that building that needed to be properly removed after proper removal and storage of furnishings and artworks and before demolition. It sure looks like nothing of the kind occured.

The offering below is not intended to minimize the seriousness of this appalling abuse of power and protocol. But IMHO, satire/amusement/levity can sometimes make a point while also affording a tad bit of emotional refreshment.

In that spirit, with acknowledgement and apology (tho' I think she'd be OK with it) to Joni Mitchell ("Big Yellow Taxi", a/k/a "They paved paradise...")

♫♪ They paved paradise and put up a parking lot,

With a ce-ment slab selected by a sleazy “big shot”.

Don’t it always seem to go that you don’t know what you’ve got ‘til it’s gone:

They paved paradise and put up a parking lot.

They took out the lawns so he could build a fake gold room,

Where they’ll grease tiny palms while plotting the nation’s doom.

Don’t it always seem to go that the people want what King Donald does not:

He killed what was nice and slapped up a used car lot.

Hey, craven Congress, 86 that D J T, now.

You can charge us some taxes, but leave us our democracies… PLEASE!

Won’t somebody let me know: How did all of us get stuck with this tot?

Our votes can’t suffice when Musk plants a ballot bot.

Late last year, old Putin worked his plan

For the miscreant MAGAts to give us this mean old man.

Don’t it all just go to show that we thought our land was smart, but they’re not:

They voted for vice and welcomed a fascist plot.

Now don’t it always seem to go that you don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone?

They killed what was nice to humor a nasty tot.

Said yes to his vice and welcomed his evil plot.

They ruined paradise and now God knows what we’ve got! ♫♪

How can ANY American be OK with this? The ballroom idea is itself odious and unethically funded. It should never be built - if it is, I fervently hope it is ceremoniously demolished after we recover our democracy. No one should be ok with his total disregard of law and process. There should be consequences for all involved.

For starters, did the demolition company not talk about permits, removing valuable contents to safe storage, etc.? Lawsuits are needed immediately to prevent any further work of any kind on this project, the wealthy donors be damned. Then retrieve whatever blueprints of the East Wing are available, get permits, etc., and rebuild the East Wing, but no ballroom or faux palace for a pathetic wannabe ruler.

Loraine's avatar

A modest proposal: sufficient legal obstruction and delays, such that the ballroom does not get built while the orange man rules. But rather, that a bare construction site remains as it is now for the next three + years. A festering eyesore of weedy dirt and a pile of rubble, on display for tourists and visiting international dignataries, standing as a monument to the the gross failure of this man to govern. We can call the dirt patch "The Trump Memorial" . We can start calling it that now.

The storming of the Capitol and the demolition of the East Wing are two indelible images of the Trump era. What will be the third? And what will be the last?

I doubt I am alone in imagining the Mango Mussolini's end mirroring that of his namesake.

Think of it this way, The Trumpster is saying to the people, … look, I’m tearing down the very symbol that is core to your thinking about governance, …and still, you still sit there doing nothing.

It makes you wonder, if everyone is so upset by this, why are we sitting and doing nothing?
