DHS can challenge registrations across the country and in specific districts, throwing hundreds of thousands of valid voters off the rolls. THEN you have to go through the process of re-registering with all of your citizenship documents (it costs $555 and up to 8 months to get naturalization paperwork if it has been lost to the sands of history). Imagine standing in line for hours when there is one clerk at the county registrar because somebody at DHS did not like the way your neighborhood voted. This is the way they throw us all off the voter rolls. DO not waste time on Voter ID, which many support. Be concerned that a capricious government is going to take away your registration and make you do it all over again!!!!!! With 7 Months to go!!!!!!!!!!!

This Act must not pass. It is the foulest of election tampering immaginable. So, if I still live at the same address I've lived at for 14 years, would I have to re-register to vote if that damn act passes? I've voted by mail since forever in California. Would I have to send proof of my ID in with my ballot or show up in person to vote, bringing said ID? I thought if I had my birth certificate and marriage/divorce papers that showed the name changes, that would be okay. But now what I've been reading makes it sound like I would need to get a passport. I haven't left the state I live in since 1985. I don't fly anywhere. I will never fly out of the country, so I have no need for a passport.

The SAVE ACT is designed to nourish, preserve and expand fascism in the United States with the blessing and collaboration of the Republican Party. The 2026 election is not about choosing between Democrats and Republicans, liberals or conservatives, but between preserving a reasonable form of democracy or sacrificing it to cowardly supporters of fascist totalitarianism represented by the GOP. Although I am totally against this fascist ploy against disenfranchising voters, I will never understand why women who get married do not get their passports changed immediately.
My new daughter-in-law did it, when they got married a few years back, and it was not that time consuming or that big of a deal. If I remember correctly, all she had to do was go to a passport post office with her passport and her marriage certificate, fill out a new form, et voila.
Well, I don't understand why women change their names just because they got married. It's a really weird thing to do. It's a tool of the patriarchy designed to erase women from history. Children should be named after both parents, with the mother's name considered more important because culture and mitochondria pass through the mother's line.
Millions of people do not have and cannot afford passports. Likewise, getting certified birth certificates from vital statistics offices can also be expensive. And both are going to take inordinate amounts of time if millions of people suddenly have to get them. This is nothing more than a vicious voter suppression bill and a poll tax.
Did I say anything about GETTING a passport or a birth certificate? No, I did not. I was merely asking why women who already have a passport and changed their name by getting married, can't be bothered to change their name in their passport.

Voter id is a dog whistle issue. They don’t want women or minorities to vote. It must be stopped.
