"We all pay the price in lost freedom, diminished democracy, and weakened civic trust."
This has always been the cost of racism--no one wins, and we all pay the price. Whites who think they've won have only won ignominy. Those whites who believe every human life has the same intrinsic worth and contribution to society have paid the price of living in an intentionally unequal society our whole lives and long for an end to it. Please know that this is more than performative talk. We feel it in our bones and work for change as we can.
From one "Osa" to another, thank you and Mr. Middlebrooks for highlighting the cost of a loss of history and the jettison of progress already achieved. Spite is the remaining tool for the weak ruling class. Surely, there are more important things in life.
Racism is a TRUMP thing! Don't let him get away with it! Talk about his racism everyday! Talk about the racism of everyone in his administration!! They are White Nationalists for pity sake. They are all racists! And it is costing us dearly.
I hear you Robert. We just need to get more people aware of what is happening. Time to talk with people about what we know and spread the word around by sharing links, etc. Like links to the Contrarian! And videos of DJT talking to our military in Japan! UGH! and so much more!
I was a young boy during the upheaval and race riots of the sixties and have vivid memories of watching news footage of the MLK and the freedom marchers being viciously beating by police. And then having my father say some very mean things about how they deserved it. I couldn't and still don’t understand the mentality of that thinking.
Fast forward and we’re still dealing with the reemerging of that horrible past. The many contributions people of all colors, especially the Blacks, who unselfishly provided for our country only to have it disappear from our history books, monuments, paintings and so on is beyond sad, it is the continued slide to authoritarianism.
Thank you Esosa Osa and Kam Middlebrooks for writing such an excellent piece of what this administration is doing and encouraging others to follow. Our collective history needs to be told both the good, and especially the uncomfortable and the bad.
The photo shown in this article has wording very similar to a poster I created for my graphic design portfolio in December 2020.
Sickening.... Time for Black Lives Matter protests again. Trump is definitely living his dream. Our country, culture, progress and history is better because of our diversity. To cause suffering for Black Americans and also immigrants of color is a horrific chapter of our story.
When I recently began seeing book bans of children's stories containg black characters, I did not understand why such books were being challenged and banned from libraries. When I began hearing that DEI programs were to be abolished, I did not understand as such programs were a necessary part of education and more since at least the mid 1960s or 1970s and continuing. As I more of prez Trump speak, it finally occurred to me that he was tryjng to fotce his hateful racist, misogynistic, etc. views on our country.

I think we are well beyond the talking stage now.
WELL beyond it!
We now need to act. He (and his stooges) needs to be removed and incarcerated.
Now.

Thank you for this reminder to stand up for the truth and support the progress made. We cannot let the truth be buried by omission or by lies.
Every time they say anti-woke; they are saying anti-black and Latino
Road Scholar Civil Rights tour is stunning, deep, disgusting and embarrassing. Here is my daily reminder. https://calendar.eji.org/racial-injustice/oct/30

Our democracy is not "diminished".
People are being assaulted and picked up off the street.
Read your history. It is happening again.
