April, I've been meaning to tell you how much I like your :Gore" sign. There's a very gracious man, who was cheated out of his legitimate presidency by Jeb Bush, the Florida AG at the time and the "supreme court" at the time.
I call him "gracious" because rather than dividing this country, which is a common occurrence now, he gave up the fight and conceded. This country would be in so much better shape now. There would not have been an Iraq war, a never-ending Afghanistan war and - probably most important of all - no giant 2008-2009 recession.
You are absolutely correct! Gore won that election, if he had only been less gracious and more of a fighter. Imagine an America without 9/11, without Afghanistan, without Iraq, without the 2008 great recession, and without the Grifter in Chief in the oval office today.
Reminds me, Stevens’ signature opuses were the streak and the mystic shriners. Back in the 70’s streaking was fashionable so stevens’ had Ethel streaking across somewhere. The shriners were a big deal so he wrote about that. Amusing. But I liked GA on my mind more. I hope GA does the right thing, for once.
I saw Ray stevens again at a NEA convention in Atlanta with my teacher mother. He was a keynote performer. He had no memory of mother when we went backstage to say hello but he was gracious. 30 yrs later he went to the Albany High School reunion, #50. I went with Mother, I was 50, yes, she could not graduate with the class because of me. Well anyway, he was a keynote at that event. By then there was a black mayor in town. Good night. Stevens still did not remember mother but at least he remembered Albany instead of Atlanta :).
I grew up in Albany, Ga. Ray stevens and Ray Charles had ties to town. There was a concert in the 80s with both performers. Stevens was first (my mother, a musician went to high school with him and did 1950s music things) and then Charles. When one of the most famous musicians in the world got on the stage half the red neck moron fuckers in the house got up and walked out. And I tell you, in 2026 Albany (agony is what we called it in childhood days) is not one scintilla different. For one who stayed, it was excellent. Some white people are the dumbest assholes on earth.
Another point not mentioned in this conversation is what the immigration policy is doing to the farmers. We heard in the past that farmers couldn't get workers to help harvest the crops; that they were rotting in the fields. In this, nothing has changed, and has surely gotten worse.
This will affect us all, from the fields to store shelves to the prices we pay for these goods.
Do you care to comment on the security of the elections. I understand there are issues surrounding machine marked ballots vs hand marked ballots and the vulnerability of Dominion Machines to hacking. I be interested in any comments from the chairman.

I’m with you, Ark. Blue!
Thanks for this interview, giving me hope!
