Anyone who refuses to empathize and stand up for their constituents should be voted out of office. Here is a clear example of members of Congress going out of their way to deny basic needs to their constituents. Full stop. Taking healthcare away from someone should be a crime.

Hey, leave those poor GOP Congressional members alone. How else were they supposed to have made the largest transfer of wealth from the poor and the Middle Class to the top 10%.

"They can act now to prevent the chaos they have unleashed on the American health care system, or they can stand by these falsehoods and consciously inflict a massive tax hike and devastating premium increases on millions of working families"

The problem with liars is that they can't admit a lie, or they lose their entire identity. Their identities were worth to them more than the lives of all their fellow Americans during the height of covid, and they still are. When they see their nearest hospital shuttered, it will be too late.

Republicans have created all of the chaos that exists in America right now. From the unlawful ICE detainments and the unauthorized occupation of cities to the unbridled cover ups of the Epstein files, rescissions the budget, the shutdown and speaker Johnson who runs away and closes the House every time he must deal with an immediate issue. How the hell can one blame Democrats for everything when the GOP won’t play? A very astute observation.

Thank you once again for sharing your extensive knowledge of public health.

As you say, the harm will be staggering - and didn't have to happen but did - because of the Rs BIG UGLY BUDGET BILL.

Every time I read a piece like this about the unravelling of our health care, I think, Medicare for All. Certainly Rs are also taking aim at Medicare. But when a program becomes institutionalized and benefits all Americans, it becomes harder to undo.

The large Medicaid cut automatically caused a cut in Medicare.

"Though the specter of a government shutdown dominates headlines, a much more immediate crisis is brewing. And GOP leaders are lying through their teeth about it while trying to shift blame on the looming government shutdown to Democrats (who don’t control any of the three branches of the federal government)."

It doesn't matter what the arguments/talking points are for either the Dems or Repubs. We are here because our elected members of Congress have their heads so far up their asses that they cannot even perform the basic function of passing a budget. Time to throw them all out.

We let the legislators choose their voters and to make sure it works set up specialized rules for which votes they get to count. How could there be a better system?

I think the Founders were way smarter than the current bunch.

A judge is sending a 20 something woman for 7 years because JP Morgan Chase didn't perform due diligence. As the judge says "fraud is fraud"; but Senator Rick Scott's company pays $400,000,000 fine for Medicare fraud and the Senator goes free.

Senator Ted Kennedy drove off a bridge, allegedly drunk, into the water on Chappaquiddick Island, resulting in the death of Mary Jo Kopechne. He never tried to save her, and never served any time for his actions. He was rewarded with several more terms as a Senator.

Nick's avatar

What's your point? Kennedy got off so Scott should walk away with $millions of taxpayer funds?

Hal's avatar

"What's your point?"

You misunderstand. There will always be miscarriages of justice. If you or I drove off a bridge and caused a death I doubt we would have gotten such leniency.

Nick's avatar

Agreed; but that doesn't mean we shouldn't call it out.

Hal's avatar

Totally agree.

Now is the time to hammer the elite Republican politicians with the truth that We the People will live with: millions of us will suffer, denied a doctor's essential care because of the ruthless Republican/tRump grab of billions of our tax dollars for themselves. They are so busy playing the game. What can these elite Republican politicians know about life in a nation where the basics of food, shelter and health take money and lots of it. This administration runs on political revenge and produces nothing. I say it out loud every day: Republican politicians & tRump have declared War on Americans. Our American families, who are the future of our nation, are under attack. Stand up to the Heartless Republican Chaos, every day.

I remember reading that Trump wants to reduce the U.S. population by one third, so I wonder if this is his sick way of achieving that goal?

Would someone tell JOE SCARBOROUGH that defensiveness is not the only tactic? Yes, republicans are lying: democrats do not want to fund health care for illegal immigrants--it's illegal anyway. But the lie is cover for the fact that the GOP does not want to fund, and NEVER WANTED to fund health care for ANY AND ALL Americans.

Also, this morning they showed a clip of Trump actually saying yesterday that the shutdown would enable the GOP to take away benefits--then Trump quickly corrected himself saying "we don't want that, but the democrats want us all to pay for health care for illegal immigrants. So, Trump switched from the GOP truth to Orwell double-speak and the lie that they use to cover for their desire to take away health care for everyone.

So, Joe just goes on the defensive denying that democrats want to cover illegals saying rightly that it's against the law anyway. But then he never went to the lie-covered fact that the GOP does not want to fund health care for ANYONE. Joe rightly asked for a bumper sticker. Here it is: THE GOP wants to gut Medicare and Medicaid for ALL AMERICANS. Joe does that often--he loses the main thread and goes on the defensive. Someone talk to the man.

We have to stop all these health benefits going to the wealthy,. We just ravaged the federal budget to give a massive tax break to these people. Why should we give them more. The tax cuts were necessary at least to choke off benefits to those less deserving. And if they want the tax breaks, why don't they just become billionaires. That's what tax policies do. They provide incentives. We have to eliminate tax credits for health insurance to cover medical expenses because those credits just encourage people who might have trouble paying hospital bills to not not buy insurance so that the unpayable bills can be covered by increasing chargers to the others who can cover the bills out of pocket or with insurance. Heck, subsidizing the insurance might just encourage a pregnant woman to seek prenatal care! We can't be encouraging that?
