Thanks for asking me to do a column about this, The Contrarian. It's an opportunity to discuss another part of what's wrong with the legacy media! See lots of fact checks and more at theystandcorrected.substack.com.
Look! Many of us have been writing forever about this and all the other disinformation from the Network TV group! When Reagan took office, things began to change as the Republicans began their lead-in to their final Heritage Manifesto! Yet, to this day, the Democratic Party remains incapable of addressing this despite the Coup! Had the democrats been ready after 8 years of Bush, testing some of the ground for today's regime, we would not be in the position we find ourselves.
Trump uses his power to force the networks even further to the Right, and his mafia style aside, he is the consummate hustler, and was always able to lie his way to get what he wanted. But there are legal ways to address the disinformation if you hold the office, but the Democrats never cared enough to use them! Now we must make them do so by demanding replacements for those remaining in charge of the Senate and House!
Democrats could be using the Courts to force the networks to start fact-checking and spread out real news. They, like Trump, could sue these corporations, and in States where Democrats are in control, the AG's could sue them directly! It is time to change and become as aggressive as the Republicans, or they will cement this authoritarian system into our Nation!
The focus on big coastal cities also contributes to the false idea that big cities, or "failed Democrat-run cities" in Fox parlance, are incredibly dangerous, while smaller cities, red states and rural areas are safe. The reality is that murder RATES are higher in places like Orleans Parish, LA and Coahoma County, MS, and Philips County, AR, than Chicago or New York City.
OTOH, I am a little sick of hearing about the needs and plight of rural communities. The bulk of Americans live in cities. How about the bias there built into our very constitutional system. I heard about the Nevada shooting and numerous other shootings in the news. The real issue is what our government has not done about it, primarily because of the parts of the country you say are neglected by the press. Too bad, so sad.
For better or worse there are 3 things I could say about the media:
1. They are very predictable
2. They are also very lazy
3. They are not in the business to report news. They are in business to make money.
And let's face it, it's a lot easier to stay in big news hubs like NYC, DC, Chicago, San Fran, LA, because they're there already. And it's also the case that a hangnail in Manhattan or The Loop garners as much or more attention than a lunatic using his assault rifle to massacre a church service in Bugbite, Arkansas. Again, it's predictable
The NYC shooting is exceptional because if a guy can bring an AK or similar gun to a Manhattan office building in broad daylight and commit mass murder it shows that gun violence is truly out of control everywhere. Write about that and shame our leaders for doing nothing about it.

I commented somewhere yesterday about the lack of coverage of the Reno shooting.
