You asked, Tom —

Stupid fanatical politicians need to get out of our women's parts.

We need a comprehensive network of pro-choice states to assure that all American women can easily, safely, and privately access all the reproductive healthcare they want and need, including abortion and contraception with no questions asked.

This will require a system of coordination among doctors and other medical practitioners such as NPs and PAs that also includes tele-health, hospitals, pharmacies, and support services such as travel experts, therapists, and 24/7 legal counsel. All of this and more should be financed jointly by insurance companies and state governments.

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD HAVE THE MEDICAL CARE SHE WANTS AND NEEDS.

WOMEN ARE MORE THAN HALF THE POPULATION AND THE MEN (AND FAR TOO MANY SELF-HATING WOMEN) ALWAYS ACT LIKE ABORTION IS SOME MINOR THROW AWAY ‘ISSUE’, LIKE THAT VENAL NUMBSKULL EZRA KLEIN.

I REPEAT:

WE ARE MORE THAN HALF THE POPULATION.

WE WILL NOT TOLERATE THE ABROGATION OF OUR FUNDAMENTAL HUMAN RIGHTS TO BODILY AUTONOMY BY RELIGIOUS FANATICS OR ANYONE ELSE.

I felt good about yesterday's election results ... and nice to have a little joy ... but recognize much work remains and much harm is before us. Going forward will continue to stay informed, help my local community thru things such as food Bank contributions, attend No Kings Rallies, etc...

Exactly, let's use these wins as motivation to keep going for our democracy!

Re coalitions of Democrats at the state level: I need to give a shoutout to our Democratic State Attorneys General. They have been working full time filing the law suits that have at least gotten in the way of Trump doing whatever he wants. They have won many of them. Anyone reading this: if your state attorney general is a Democrat, get on his/her mailing list. You will be amazed at what they have already done and what they continue to do for all of us no matter where we live.

I totally agree with this column AND I notice that nothing is being mentioned about the icecaps melting, the climate changing, and rivers and lakes being polluted and the much soil being toxic.

Perhaps we can add to our list of damaging acts this administration is throwing out there (opening virgin forests to logging and ...). Let's not forget our planet.

So. rumor has it that you are planning to run for Mikie's Congressional seat. Many of us hope it is true! We still are not over having Kean replace you - he is so God awful. Anyway, Mikie and you are the kind of people we need in government!

And don’t forget: as soon as the House convenes, Vote #218 is there and the Discharge Petition is the focus for the Epstein files.

Former Jerseyite here, proud of my ex state today, I would've proudly voted for Sherill if I still lived there.

Democracy may actually have a chance in 2026!

Thank you Tom. New Jersey stood up for democracy and bomb threats did not keep us from voting. Democratic governors are playing a key role in protecting our freedoms and Mikie will be an excellent addition to that group.

This!

“What if states filled the void—not with studies or commissions but with bold ‘I dare you to stop me’ action?”

As the federal government under MAGA control (for now) pledges allegiance to an oath breaking insurrectionist, we vote “no confidence” by emphasizing states’ rights and helping each other with mutual aid rather than caving to a wanna be dictator’s bullying and blackmail.

Thank you for this summary, celebration & pep talk rolled into one. We have really appreciated your very thoughtful and wise Contrarian articles and various interviews. You are a calm and thoughtful voice that we very much need on the national scene. So I was glad to read that you are running for Mikie's soon-to-be-vacant seat in Congress. You'll get all the votes from my house!

Thank you for this excellent post. I moved to France full-time 4 years ago, but still vote through my former precinct in Flagstaff, AZ. The one and only time I voted Republican was the first time I voted, voting for Richard Nixon instead of Hubert Humphrey. I've regretted that vote every day since.

I was really heartened by the turnout and the results from Tuesday's election. There is light at the end of the tunnel! Expats are not immune to Trump. Aside from his illegal and inhumane actions that no one anywhere should support or acquiesce to, his gawd-awful economic policies have cost me 10% of my buying power due to the weakening of the US$ exchange rate to euros.

I have a cousin in the U.S. House of Representatives who is of Prussian ancestry, and is a Republican Trump-supporting Christian Nationalist, racist and misogynist. That's the environment I grew up in. I changed my last name 30 years ago, when he was a state-level politician, and got as far away from that kind of thinking as I could. When he was elected to the U.S. House, I felt a cold comfort that I wouldn't be connected by association due to my last name.

She has a very impressive background, so glad she won. I don't know if she will be a good governor; time will tell, but SO glad that the Dems made such an impact in NJ.

Thanks, Tom, but I'm not thinking of suggestions yet. I did have a laugh over your suggesting the kiss ass line. Definitely need some humor along with the awfully bad stuff these days.

Whoever, whatever we won. Sanity. Thank god. For the first time in my life I can say I am proud of NJ.

I think the idea of expanding the blue Governors’ consortium is great. What a way to demonstrate to the country what Democratic governance can provide.
