The MAGA Voodoo Cult never supported him for his statement (lie) about war. It was and is because he scratches their racist, religious, sexist Bigot Bellies. His base and what was the Republican Party has always been an alliance between Vampire Capitalists (especially Big Oil) and the White Male Christian Theocrats who believe that the US is and should be dominated only by themselves.

I honestly believe that this behavior--which will likely continue--stems from Trump's sociopathic ego requiring a bigger and bigger thrill continually, and the best, most noticeable thrills come from the pain and loss of others. Now that he has no obligations to voters, donors, the courts, or Congress, what is an idle, predatory president to do? He will spend three years threatening and attacking anything and everything, looking for one more thrill that, inevitably, won't last.

"The capture of Maduro may be celebrated as a tactical victory, but it is a strategic and moral defeat for the philosophy Trump claimed to represent. "

The true moral defeat was electing Trump in 2024...for the second time! A significant portion of Americans has revealed their own lack of a moral compass and taken the rest of us down a dark road. Many of them call themselves "Christians".

I don't enjoy handing my tax dollars over to a racist and a thief.

I saw a great essay today about the seeming inconsistency with the supposed isolationist part of the MAGA cult celebrating this completely illegal intervention into another sovereign country. The author argued that all internal inconsistency with the MAGA GOP can be explained by understanding that they ALWAYS argue in bad faith. They don’t really believe in ANYTHING other than accumulating and using power for themselves. That’s it. Don’t waste your time calling out their hypocrisy - they don’t care.

I agree with Bob Egbert below that it's a stretch to argue that the MAGA cult actually have a philosophy - or certainly any philosophy that is recognizable such as no foreign wars isolationism. As proof, as noted in the article, look at the speed with which MAGA Rs have pivoted to cheer on our new empire building military. Venezuela only a first. step.

Again, I agree with Bob that true MAGAs won't feel betrayed by Venezuela as long as their "racist, religious, sexist bigot bellies" are scratched.

Philosophy - that requires a thinking mind. Not these folks.

Trump announced today that US taxpayers will be funding the repairs and upgrades to the Venezuela's oil fields. This is an outrage. I hope the Democrats in Congress jump all over this.

I'll be glad to just quit my job and go on welfare then.

I know everyone who reads the Contrarian knows this, but remember when a regime tramples on the rights of others it is only a matter of time before they start trampling on everyone's rights. By that time it may be too late to respond and stop the downfall of this once great nation.

It's a cult.

They will agree with whatever Dear Leader says.

Whatever title trump holds, he is foremost a corporate raider. Everything is about business and $. Along with an insatiable thirst for ego stoking, these qualities are fully on display every day. May we get through this to fight another day, a day that will see the US returning to sanity.

The only thing that might redeem us as a country is impeachment. Unfortunately, impeachment has become a partisan issue. It’s ridiculous it has come to this.

It just sickens me that the bully-in-chief has militarily attacked another country and claims their oil is now ours. The U.S. does not plunder in these times. Now it will not be trusted or looked up to by other countries.

"Take Pete Hegseth, ..."

Yes, please take him, preferably straight to The Hague for his war crimes trial.

All of this was predictable, which doesn’t make it any better. The most helpful analysis I’ve seen to explain what is likely to happen next is an Robert Arnold Youtube video. Here’s the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y9IZ7BEWE84

I’ve tried to break down what he said here: https://substack.com/home/post/p-183634867

I would love to know what other people think. It’s ultimately about money, but Arnold thinks this invasion signals Trump’s knowledge that he’s not going to last much longer in office. And it doesn’t matter to him, because he’s shoring up the future for himself now. He’ll try to make every contract and agreement outside of government so nothing can be clawed back later.

Here's my take on this:

Trump may be known as the Kidnapper in Chief. Who's Next?

Nothing says "Obey Trump!" like the prospect of ending up in the "Hell on Earth" Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn.
