Thanks for this. As a gay man, I couldn't figure out why this series garnered so much interest from women, outnumbering men-watchers by nearly 2 to 1. This article helped to understand why. It helps that the relationship between the two men was brilliantly acted and the writing superb.

Proud of our women's hockey team, and not thrilled by the men most of whom had no problem being used as props by a scheming carnival-barker and his pet deer-in-the-headlights too drunk on Michelob to give a rat's ass about his job back home. (On the other hand, probably the deer's employees were glad to see him leave town...)

I'm also a gay man, and was surprised to see the mainstream success this show has achieved. But perhaps it makes sense that straight women are watching -- after all, we've known for a long time that a lot of straight men are fascinated by lesbians, so turnabout is only fair.

Great column, thanks!

I was disgusted by the men's team.

I am very proud of the US women's hockey team for a splendid Olympics and for refusing to be props for POTUS at SOTU. As you wrote, the men went on to "serve as props at the State of the Union".

It is vital for the patriarchy to undermine and destroy women's sports. Toxic men define themselves as being "not like girls" and thus, any activity that women engage in, men cannot. Yes, I know that is a very negative way to define your identity. But it explains why men fled from equestrian sports as women dominated them, and why men are failing to attend college as women dominate it. Girls are about to overtake boys in the US in playing soccer, and it will be interesting to see what happens to the US soccer gender ratio in the near future.

How did i, a lesbian, not know there was a female hockey team? Round ball or oval, omg, a disc! I hope the men were embarrassed going to the SOTU. That was pathetic and they should feel contrite. Their rare victory will surely be devolved to obscurity soon especially because they bowed to a dick - tater and his sick o farts. We know why men can’t think, it is hard to get oxygen to their brains through that tiny hole in their penis. Thank god the women had something else to do (like buff their kitty cats’ toe nails). Why would you even attend this SOTU? A wannabe transgender IN YOUR OWN WAY being called out by the orange combover. How gay is that? A victim’s family who has to sit on the steps of congress hall to be recognized and honored? An 100 year old veteran who gets to sit by a trafficked Slovak whore (innocent or not) to get his medal of recognition after all these years - hmmm, who’s correct? Melania was wearing male type clothes. According to the Atlantic, that means she is unhappy with the combover dude and wants to raise his ire. Sorry, the old dude is a stale fart, you can’t raise anything. Even farts fall to the ground.

While the women play hockey because they're having fun, the men play hockey because it gives them a chance to show exactly what they are: misogynistic, orange dumpster voting pigs.

I love hockey, played it in high school, coached my son’s team 20 years ago. I’m a straight man. I do not like professional hockey because of the fighting as well as the misbehaviour of some players. The PWHL has given me a new interest in being a spectator because they play the game to showcase their skill, not their ability to knock out an opponent with a vicious check or a high stick. It’s high time that all of this comes to a public discussion. Thanks to Rachel Reid for writing so well and for the producers of this show for bringing it to the mass market. And kudos to the author of this piece.

I feel that the men's hockey team reaction was misinterpreted . Understandibly, after such an emotional victory, there was a feeling of euphoria among the team. They were sky high after their accomplishment and pretty much any comment that was made to them, regardless of who made it and what the topic was, was n't about to diminsh their state of mind. They showed support of the women by attending their games and got to know and appreciate their accomplishments while co-residing with them in the Olympic village. Several of them apologized for their laughter later, but again I feel the laughter was inspired by their euhoria, not any rational realization or agreement with the President's comments

Boy's team. These are not men. Nor are any of the GoP members, genitalia notwithstanding.
