This is one of the big reasons why the Democratic party needs to get rid of a lot of their old and comfortable members of Congress. They know nothing about AI and very little about computing in the first place.

Democrats, put up many more younger people for elections throughout the country. Without them, you will lose the fight to regulate AI and related matters.

An excellent articulation of the three areas of AI posing a real danger, and begging for regulation. ... I am old enough to remember when Congress legislated to resolve problems. While solutions were far from perfect, there at least was an agreement on the existence of a problem, and, in the end, different ideas posed enabled a compromise that tended to have a positive impact. I'm not sure when winning and denigrating the other party became more important the resolving problems we face as a nation. We need a governing body to do their jobs, representing the people. AI leaves us particularly vulnerable to an infinite array nightmare scenarios, and neither Republicans nor big industry want limits. Who is served by the incapacitating focus of Congress? The ones in power, serving themselves. I don't know what the answer is, but I think it starts with us, demanding more, insisting on integrity, and clarifying for our senators and representatives pressing issues, like AI, threatening our identities, our national security, and the world ... begging to be more clearly grasped and regulated.

Kicking the can down the road has gotten us here. Every big problem--affordable healthcare, housing, and equitable taxation, along with monopoly regulation--has been ignored. Then, when it gets too big, they say it's too big to fix. Americans once cared enough to keep society going. Now we won't even be allowed to vote out the people who stand in the way of getting the jobs done.

Let's hope and pray that enough voters who are appalled by Trump's abusive overreach, big money's grip on politics, and the current authoritarian tenor of government, show up at the polls, so even the rigged system and obstacles Trump is setting up ... become cans we, the people, can kick down the road, so we can address this and other issues that threaten our democracy, rights as citizens, and liberty.

I don't think we have what it takes to govern ourselves. We never have.

But, AI and these new LLM's do.

Lets give them a SUPERVISED try!

You're getting weird, Robert :)

And it is AI that will, in my opinion, eventually understand, grasp and regulate mankind. But first we need to burn some "old wood".

My guess is it will create more problems than it ever dared to solve.

My guess is that AI will, eventually, become mankind's savior.

The rise of AI has put us in liminal times.

According to Webster, "Liminal" refers to being on a threshold or in a state of transition "betwixt and between" two states, places, or stages of life. The steadily growing capabilities of AI have made the old times (before AI existed) virtually obsolete. In the blink of an eye AI and LLM's have made age old tactics used in American government so obsolete that the antics of the Trump administration (their war, their Venezuela debacle, their destruction of much of our government infrastructure like Education, etc., etc.) are now being viewed as actions completely without thought.

And, without thought is exactly what they are when you compare their thought with the "thought" generated by these advanced AI LLM's.

The day mankind has been worrying about for decades has arrived. AI has beat us at our own game. It thinks much, much better than we do and it does it one hell of a lot faster and more completely than we could ever do it.

We are now "betwixt and between" the way mankind USED to think (money, power, & force) and the the direction AI LLM's are now surely pointing to (comprehensive thought and rational action based on comprehensive thought).

These liminal times are producing tons of anxiety (and many other very negative side effects).

War and murder are only two.
