Thanks for that clear crisp explanation Barbara!

And release the Epstein files. Not a coincidence that distractions of a government shutdown, 800 generals being given a loyalty test, comedy, and an (ill conceived) Mideast piece push are squeezing Epstein out of the news. Keep that front and center.

Comey and McCabe should have both been fired by President Obama for their interference (and help to the Felon) in the 2016 election. That said, the indictment of Comey is the Felon's continued efforts in making the United States an authoritarian theocracy (Putin's Russia).

Cheato Benito should be kissing Comey's feet, not indicting him. Were it not for Comey's partisan interference at the 11th hour to torpedo Hillary, Trumpolini probably would never have been "elected".

Nan, you have a way with words! I'm laughing my behind off.

Thanks! Glad to supply some comic relief from this horror show we are living in.

What a trio of pretty faces.

Not a competent prosecutor - or competent attorney of any kind - among them.

If this argle-bargle survives the pretrial motions stage, jury nullification will most definitely be in play. The Regime's Department of Injustice already engaged in inappropriate jurisdiction-shopping by coming up with a dubious-at-best claim to site the events in NoVa instead of DC. But the Alexandria division of EDVA comprises the cities and counties of Northern Virginia, where people are equally savvy and aware, and preponderantly *not* Mango Mussolini fans. What a waste of citizens' time and resources...

This indictment is only performative. The people who filed it don't care even a little bit if they get a conviction. In fact, an early dismissal is probably what they really want. That would signal to their cultists that the deep state conspiracy has corrupted the judicial system, which would "justify" their efforts to overturn the rule of law.

Thanks for unpacking this. I’m perpetually saddened of late that Trump’s strategy of undermining the credibility of his perceived enemies persists, even though his means to that end are a tangled web of lies. His base eats it up. Meanwhile many people are harmed and many more are faced with the very real struggle that pits integrity against reputation. One risks their reputation if they speak up. Or it appears that way. Maybe, maybe not. That uncertainty makes it all the more difficult to decide. I find it sickening.

I got to tell you: I am not an attorney, but a retired medical professional, but have past employment experiences in a civil law firm as well as extensive experience working with a municipal law department which handled criminal misdemeanor cases. As part of the latter, I worked directly with prosecutors. As a result, I usually understand the wording of legal documents, verbiage, etc. I have repeatedly read the charges against Comey, and they simply are incomprehensible, unless I've lost my ability to understand such matters, which I don't think I have. All I can say is either the case will be dismissed before it even reaches voir dire of any jury, or Comey will be acquitted, because no one else will understand the charges either. One commenter is correct: Trump will jump on any perceived loss, claim that there was a "conspiracy" against his administration, particularly as the judge was a Biden appointee, and use it as means to further his authoritarian agenda, particularly against the judiciary. I find it very interesting that experienced prosecutors, working for the DOJ, looked at the so-called evidence, and said there is no case. Prosecutors do not like to lose, so I have to believe that their assessment was correct. The fact that Halligan took up the gauntlet so quickly and was successful in obtaining the indictment on so-called evidence that a professional prosecutor said was iffy, tells me that she was either lying her ass off to the grand jury, or that she couldn't tell the lack of the case's merits if she tried.

Can Halligan be disciplined by the Bar for this BS indictment?

Nan Reiner's avatar

She can certainly be disciplined by the presiding judge.

Her Bar membership is in Florida, a/k/a Trumplandia/DeSantistan. Although the Bar is officially non-partisan, the Greedy Oligarch Posse control most things here at the moment. My magic 8-ball therefore, reluctantly says "Signs point to No".

Freddie Baudat's avatar

And BTW, are Blanche and Bondi holding hands behind Halligan’s back in that picture?

Bonnie MacEvoy's avatar

I'm sorry to be petty, but does Todd Blanche put his arm around Trump too, or is this just an opportunity to grope a pretty woman? To me, this is belittling alpha behavior.

“Halligan seems to be the kind of prosecutor you get when you place loyalty above competence.”

Replace “prosecutor” with <fill in the blank> and she shares that in common with the rest of the Trump administration.

RRiveter's avatar

Exactly what I thought. She ain't a prosecutor, but an "insurance attorney". So she has, in the past it says, decided on insurance matters, fraud, payments??? What in the hell's fire does that have to do with grand juries and criminal indictments? That chick wouldn't even know how to spell those words.

krayneum's avatar

She apparently has no criminal law experience of any kind. In addition to being a travesty, her appointment was an insult to every line prosecutor who works in that office.

The whole thing seems like such a nothingburger! Unless you follow it closely, it seems trivial and incomprehensible. I can't believe a jury would ever convict someone of a felony for this.

What a clown show! All Trump cares about, screaming from the Oval Office, is making his perceived enemies pay for their opposition or criticism of him. The fact that he hires ignoramuses like Lindsay Halligan (one among many) for their loyalty, not expertise, ensures that he will keep failing to get any real satisfaction.

Thanks for the information about the charges, process and actual facts!
