I was wondering how receptive France and other European countries will be to American tourists the longer this drags on? (And I wouldn’t blame them for not an arms wide open welcome.)

I have family in France I visit regularly. Trump is pretty unpopular in most European countries but most people understand that a lot of Americans don’t like him either. What they have a hard time understanding is why after the disaster of his first term and attempted coup he’s in the White House again instead of prison. Unsuccessful insurrectionists in many other countries have ended up against a wall , e.g. the Paris Commune https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Communards%27_Wall

Burner phones are going to be our future, I’m afraid.

Or go back to using a landlline. They can be tapped but it requires more work.

Difficult when traveling.

Yes it is now but everyone used to do it (including myself).

Many of the major National Parks (like Yellowstone) are in MAGA (Nazi) states. My wife and I visited YNP for the 6th time last August. It seemed that almost all of the restaurant workers and housekeeping staff were foreigners. Xantera, the consessionaire company said, in one of the promotional e-mails we receive, that they are open and ready for business. Are the young people from overseas they employ getting special passes? The only solution to the problem of the Beast is Impeachment & Conviction and the firing of the Toadies in Congress that won't do that. All the Toadies should be made to fear election day in November 2026.

This administration is destroying everything that makes our country great! We must stay focused and keep resisting and making good trouble! We can’t sit back and just hope, we must all contribute anyway we can to stop this madness!

So disheartening, but must face facts. Will have to join hands and hearts with local people, get to know our neighbours and be creative with staycations these next years. Protesting can be our vacation times.

Unfortunately, my city and area (seashore, bird sanctuaries) count greatly on tourist visits and monies.

I suspect the various Trump properties will be overrun with foreigners and corporate types looking for a little advantage.

Yep, I've thought about how unsafe and unsanitary Trump has made things. Never knew what he meant about making things great again by going backwards. Or that the swamp in D.C. was actually all the people working to keep our country moving along for us.

Trump's children and grandchildren will have to live with the shame Trump has brought on his family. I am not sure they will be an improvement as they all.seem.to have issues as well. History will not be kind..

From now on, when I read a Contrarian article I will ask myself how I can use it. The writing is so good. This is an example. I will keep this article in mind for letters to my representatives about DOGE cuts. It pairs well with the Max Stier piece this week.

Such great talking points for our leaders in Congress. They should be using them.

This is not just a rain on everyone’s parade but a typhoon on everyone’s parade. When I took a cruise to Alaska in 2014 we tipped our waiters and the people that cleaned our stateroom. On that same trip which was a land tour we tipped all those people as well. It really sucks not having these people to keep your room clean but it also sucks for them as well because they make a significant sum of money off of those tips. I hope this ship can be righted soon! Pun intended.
